I actually like the play sets that don't have dolls as it seems like eventually there are too many dolls (heresy, I know). When I was a girl, there weren't that many Barbies and it could seem like the March of The Clones if everything had a doll included. I would rather have playsets that came with quality clothes to put on the dolls you had.
Yeah, I miss that aspect of that time period, where most of what was on the shelf was clothes and accessories. Back then I had like 4 Barbie line dolls and only two were actually Barbie. One had a different face sculpt that made her look slightly older so she was always the mom. I think it made play more fun when it was more about getting more clothes than dolls. There were more things to do with the dolls you had. Now kids are getting tired of Barbies at a younger age.
@@SharmClucas[edited] I had a dark haired Barbie that was a hand-me-down from a teen babysitter (still have that 1960s doll), a Malibu Francie? a blonde Barbie with a tightly curled flip, a Growing Up Skipper, a Skipper with the pigtails that Buffy and Cindy had on TV, a Mod Ken with brown hair and a dad doll that was maybe a Tammy family (another babysitter hand-me-down). My sister had a few Barbies and a huge Johnny West family. I forgot that I had a Julia doll!!!! She was never Julia or Diane Carroll, but was instead Diana Ross!!! I had an evening gown that was a black velvet sleeveless top and a long sparkly black and silver skirt. She was always giving a show with dark haired Barbie being her agent and blonde Barbie wearing the nurse outfit to serve her orange juice for her voice. Everyone else was the nightclub audience. Then Diana Ross would leave the nightclub in her topless sports car ( my best Sunday patent leather Mary Jane shoe)
@@SharmClucas the little girls get tired of dolls earlier and their mothers and grandmothers are growing their own collections. LOL
I don't really like Barbie dolls themselves but I do like some of the sets. I hate seeing a set come with a doll I don't want when I know the set it perfect for Monster High or even My Little Pony Equestria Girls or whatever other doll I would like more. I get Barbie stuff for the accessories and sets not the doll itself. There are some Barbie dolls I would get if someone came over and wanted to play dolls with me. I don't want to be the one giving an older Monster High to a kid who could potentially destroy it or damaged it during play especially with the prices of them now.

Usually I prefer the Barbie playsets but with the examples you showed I actually prefer the Lol Omg one. It seemed like you could make more food in that one. Also amazing vid!
The big barbie restaurant definitely is the best of the 3 we saw. For $50 I'd rather have no doll and a full playset than an exclusive doll and a smaller one.

Me too!!! Personally I find the things Toya makes much more attractive/appealing. The playsets featured today were very nice, but I don't always want everything in pink. Definitely needs a "versus" video! Please?😁
My granddaughter got the Barbie play set for Christmas, she loves it. We want to say thank you, we didn’t know the purpose of the sponge in the pizza oven 🤦🏾♀️. Great job as usual. ❣️
You put the pizza into the oven and then put the sponge down on the pizza and then you should get a detailed pizza!

while i really do love the to-go diner, some of the intricacies of it make it too hard or even dangerous for little kids to play with. I mean, water stuff right above the UV lights that they tell you not to get water in? okay...

The OMG thing is a future mess when water gets into the uv lights. I like the Barbie best too but I wish they would be more detail oriented like the OMG dolls
I liked that the LOL play set had some clear items rather than coloured plastic. They also didn’t have quite as many clashing colours as the Barbie ones but I would like the Barbie one best if it had more natural colours.

Water play. My granddaughter is still grounded for the dark water marks all over her parents ceiling. Her bedroom is directly above the master suite.
To be fair, she was told water play is an outdoor only activity.

These are cute, though as 1/6 food goes I still prefer rement. The level of detail and variety and they are perfect for barbie, integrity toy, and azone pureneemos (and the 1/12 stuff is perfect for azone picco neemos!)

I think lot of playsets with dolls are meant as gifts. The first one you showed would be fun, but they should paint the pizzas so they look good before baking, but still look different with water. If you give a playset as a gift, but they don't already own a doll then it would be less fun
When I first saw the Barbie restaurant playset online (recently), I found myself thinking, "Oh no, *Another* overpriced gimmick! 🙄" (because they typically rely too much on stickers and printed backdrops for details; and are soooooo miniscule). It didn't help that the price has gone up to almost $55 on Amazon!
But then the more I looked at it, the more I began to see potential. Not so much for my own collection; but for two youngsters (one aged three, and one nine) whom (I'm guessing here) don't have much in the way of Barbie; and for whom storage space would likely be a challenge. The fact that it folds up (with a carry handle) after playtime is over, is likely to be much appreciated by their mom; while simultaneously being large and detailed enough to spark their imaginations and hold their attention by providing a framework for creative, interactive storytelling.
Like Toya, I think that the _height_ of this restaurant adds to the total package, for more realism. The two separate seating areas can accommodate a total of five dolls; plus you can add another table (or two) and chairs in the foreground area (not saying these will pack up with the remainder of the set), so as to create the busy illusion of a "crowd" if desired... I didn't even realize the option of putting the table and counter on the outside of the case, for an outdoor "food court" effect! (thanks, Toya, for pointing that out!) That it now includes a doll with the set, with a matching cook/waitress outfit would not be a selling point for me; but for those two young girls, perhaps they might wish to use the outfit with another of their dolls which could be more articulated... and so it goes on.
As for the LoL OMG dolls (or anything such as Monster/Rainbow High, Bratz, Ever After, etc.), I just don't get into them. 🤷♀ Their heads and their bodies are so out of proportion to one another; and the "wide-eyed" anime(?) look is off-putting. Say what one wants about Barbie's "unrealistic proportions"; but at least Barbie and her friends (though little) more closely resemble actual people.

the omg set and the cafe kiosk actually look like they work well together and the omg set looks like it works well for petite barbies (which i prefer to the regular barbies) so i think im gonna get those two because i love the dolls and the sets. the barbie diner is NOT worth $50 even with a doll >:/

I think the OMG doll is too adorable. Wish I could get just her. I don't collect much on the way of play sets but it is a cute set. Over all I think the Barbie restaurant is the best deal, especially without a basic doll.
You should make "ice" with hot glue, or resin or translucent polymer clay.

Yer I have to say UV light exposure isn't really something I'd want my kids or me for that matter to be using for long periods. UV exposure isn't really something I'd wanna have in a little kids toy because they probably wouldn't understand the dangers it can have, not to mention that water play part seems very messy and I think it would be difficult for a kid to not spill it. The Barbie playset is way safer and the best part the accessories aren't all pink they actually have colour to them and the water play is pretty minimal.
I feel like these playsets are meant for different aged kids

I would pick the omg one bcuz I hate barbie playsets nowadays and barbie stuff has to always be pink. I WANT NORMAL COLORS! Like the omg one is blue but that's better then pink. And MGA has more high quality. Even tho their quality control sucks as well as mattel.

I like the big Barbie Reataurant because of all of the play value but I love that petite Barbie's head. Wish they had a petite made-to-move body with that luscious dark skin tone. The OMG doll is very cute and if I find that set on sale I might get it but I can do a little paint wash instead of water play. I am a grandmother but my nieces and grandkids are teenagers- too old to play and too young to give me a new generation of kids. So I can think purely about what I like. And I would like fewer dolls and more fashion packs and playsets and shoes!

I wish the basic playline & fashionista dolls had knee and elbow joints. Just a simple hinge would increase the playabilty of the doll so much.
You know, this might be a little cynical of me, but ... I suspect that Mattel continues manufacturing mostly 5-point articulation dolls (some with distinctive-looking head sculpts) so that they can continue making two doll sales for every one that collectors (and older kids) have to 're-body.' 🙁 First it was the Fashionistas; then they "added" ankle joints; now it's MtMs (_finally_ they got the Kens-whenever will Skipper, Stacey and Chelsea be upgraded?)... perhaps the next body style will make the joints "seamless"-looking; and/or add changing facial expressions? "I'll take 'planned obsolescence' for $200, Alex..." 😔

Unrelated, but on the messy water play side of things. You could get a barbie apres ski chocolate lodge in the 90s. It had snowy window to turn and came with actual hot chocolate and chocolate lolly makers. That was one sticky play set. Fun, but sticky.

Kind of weird of MGA to create a play set for kids that has working UV lights. Warning kids not to stare into the lights is an invitation fir them to do the opposite. They could have created foods which had the grill marks on one side only, so you can pretend to flip and it's done. The doll is gorgeous, though. I wonder if OMG clothes will fir Bratz dolls, since they're from the same company.
