  • If you are looking for the "old world charm" of Germany, then Bacharach is one of those jewels on the Rhine River that will fit that bill. It really is a step back in time strolling through the old town district. There will be a separate video devoted to the higher areas above the town, which includes remnants of the old wall, along with some surviving towers, beautiful vineyards growing up into the hills. And, of course, some breathtaking views of the town below, along with the vast Rhine River Valley.
Documentation for the town of Bacharach dates back to the early 11th Century, though many historians also believe that it has existed there since the 7th century. Stahleck Castle sits high on the hill above town; it is now a youth hostel.

My wife and I spent a couple of days here in 2017, really worth it if you can get there. Such a pretty and friendly place!

My children and I hope to spend a week in Bacharach this summer, if travel within Germany is allowed again.

You'll love it; much to see. Be sure to meander up the hill into the vineyards, great views. Not too hard a climb/walk.
