I like to think the Time Eater is not really a godlike entity but more of a predatorial creature created from the different time paradoxes and interferences through the timeline. Ever since it’s creation, it was been destroying multiple different timelines and it was about to destroy Sonic’s timeline until Eggman got a hold of it and weaponized it to erase all existence of Sonic in the timeline.

I believe that the Time Eater is a guardian of time and he appeared after Colors because all the previous time travel and Eggman's plans that manipulate space-time, he go to Sonic Dimenson to see if everything is alright. But Eggman successful control him with his past self, because the Time Eater is a giant machine.
He turned the Time Eater INTO a machine, I'm fairly certain. When Eggman encountered he, stated it was in its "primordial form," most likely meaning that it was mostly in its funky purple gaseous form, with no mechanical bits attached. Eggman is known for turning things into machines or attaching mechanical parts to them, so this isn't super far-fetched, and probably what the writers intended the Time Eater's story to be.
I like to imagine it takes the form of the interests of whoever controls it, as to why it's a machine when the Eggmans took control of it.
I always viewed the Time Eater less as Mephiles and more as Iblis since he seemed to be mindless power that Eggman took control of. I think that Mephiles is alive and hiding somewhere where he sent a sort of Iblis of his own power (since I do think the actual Iblis was either destroyed or ended up some where Mephiles can't reach on his own) knowing that Eggman would find it and use it to change history (potentially opening the door for him to find Iblis unimpeded or something else he might be after... I also have theories that other game villains could have been caused by Mephiles in some manner but I'll save that for later since you'll probably talk about some of them in the next two episodes)
Mephiles would then probably be searching for the Sol Dimension, I believe that Iblis was sealed in the Sol Emeralds because she momentarily turned into Burning Blaze when she absorbed him in Sonic 06.
Well since we dont know shit about the Time Eater, my head canon is the Time Eater was probably an aspect of Solaris after he was destroyed.

The Time-Eater is honestly one of the more forgettable villains as we never really got any form of answer about what it was, how it was created, and did it have some sort of connection to other villains other then Eggman. The fact that's it's just another weapon by Eggman, it's pretty underwhelming and unbelievable since Eggman working with monsters don't work out really well for him. Chaos blasts him out of the sky and tormented him in the final story of Sonic Adventures, Dark Gaia sends Eggman flying Team Rocket style from the planets core in Unleashed, the bland stereotype 6 use some mind power on his bandiks, lose his egg mobile and force to run away in "Lost" World. Mephiles is the closest thing to a villain that the Time-Eater represented and could've given some interesting lore of Mephiles somehow surviving and becoming one with the Time-Eater. It wouldn't be a perfect explanation, since Sonic 06's story is a little jumbled with it's time travel making things pretty fishy, if some fans were to rewrite Sonic 06 in a way that's easy to follow but complex enough to make it mysterious as more answers were given, much like many Disney villains back before the 2010s.

@@srstriker6420 well let's keep in mind it's all done from the Phantom Ruby in Forces, so it's really not much but virtual clones under Eggman's control.

I don't think its true. Since Mephiles is a part of Solaris the eternal sun god who controls time and fate in a whim, when the physical form of Solaris was erased from existence, so did Mephiles. Not to mention being immortal unlike the time eater, despite being having time powers is seemingly bound to a point of time unlike Solaris as a whole, who can appear in the past, present and future simultaneously.

So, i have a theory. You mentioned in a previous Solaris video that Solaris was most likely just the living flame, and it was being injected with a dark substance to make it bigger and more powerful. If the flame of Solaris was snuffed out, what happened to the dark substance who was probably Mephiles? What if the time eater was what happened to Mephiles had he not been used in the experiment as there would have been no reason at that point for the humans to have possession of him? Meaning, he never learned the things he discovered in '06, and could have been a free roaming 'spirit' as was shown on that comic page where it spoke about Mephiles, Iblis, and Solaris. As time went on of him being free, he developed a 'solid' form and retained his powers and even refined them, and it was an unfortunate accident that Eggman discovered him in space.
That's just my take on the whole thing
Fun fact, it's highly hinted that Time-Eater was a reference to mephiles. Their abilities are very similar and just overall his theme. The main body being dark and foggy while also have a sun around him, aka like mephiles and iblis. It's possible that they were brought back after eggman used time eater to bring back crisis city, but who knows.

My theory is Eggman still went to Soleanna but with no Iblis he had no reason to say and Started experimenting with the scepter of darkness,
In which it corrupted dark gaia It was a natural monster Performing his normal duties,
And the alien species known as wisp were Also corrupted by it,
So we have been seeing Mephiles radiation for some time now?

Horrible villain, but... I may get attacked for this, but I genuinely enjoy his boss fight (talking the main release), I love how broken it is, makes it really fun to me. The 3DS one ain't half bad either.
From what I understand, the 3DS one is pretty good. The main issue with HD Time Eater, aside from the mechanical issues, is that Sonic's friends just _won't shut up._ It's the "Eggman boss quote" problem, where the characters repeatedly same the same lines over and over and it just gets super annoying.

My guess is that after the finale of 06 (which basically broke time) Mephiles and likely other parts of solaris were split and the time eater is Mephiles abilities mostly his time manipulation. If this is the case that would mean that the consciousness of Mephiles and perhaps the power of Iblis are still alive but without power. The power of the chaos emeralds great but I doubt they could completely destroy a god of time.
Personally, I think Ian Flynn was just reaching. I still see Solaris and the Time Eater as two separate entities.

I thought the Time Eater was Solaris Residue, it existed in a Void of time until Eggman discovered it.
A being formed from Solaris’s residual power would have time & space manipulation.
Assuming it did have a Mind before Eggman; it could have been a simplistic Child like mind.

heres something to think about SILVER STILL EXISTS DESPITE HIS FUTURE STILL CHANGING and seems to remember it in the comics... so a fragment of solaris or just mephiles could still exist
It's doesn't make much sense since different from Mephiles and Iblis who have been erased from existence after Sonic and Elise travel back through time, Silver could exist on his own since he was never been related to them to begin with.
It’s funny how Sonic Generations was one of the First ever Sonic games I’ve ever played, and I’m lucky it was, because I started going to games like Adventure 2 and the other games, and I love most of the entire series
Knowing how writers are, I think the Time Eater is just the Time Eate, not something left over from Solaris or the black hole, but just something thrown into the story. If it were part of Solaris or had something to do with Mephiles, they would've had the characters find out.
I think that the Time Eater is the result of all that Nega Wisp energy unleashed at the end of Colors. It vicously tears through space like the Frenzy Wisp and is basically a living black hole, the nothing that sucks everything in, including time, space and light, just like the Violet Wisp. Basically, the Time Eater is a mass of all that Nega energy that was floating in space for an indiscernible amount of time, until it eventually experienced violent collapses and collisons of energy within it's mass that gave it a concious mind. When Eggman came across it, he, with the help of Classic Eggman, thoroughly altered it with his technology in order to give it shape, a physical form, and more control over it's powers of destroying time and space. The form we see it during the final boss is basically a battle suit, made in order to make it more profiscient at cobat and easier to use as weapon.

I personally like how the timeeater is basicly solaris in a compressed form and I still think it is what is left of that after 06. it is basicly mephiles with the nature and power of iblis, while very clearly having the destinction that it does not actually use timetravel but actually burns holes into time itself, just like the original solaris. just weaker. too bad the gameplay and storyaspects around it just suck, it could have been a great callback. what is also interessting is that the timeeater is never actually shown to die, sonic just heavily damages it, which is a direct reference to how solaris was actually immortal and it would have just grown another core or something if elise did not blow out the flame. it is very likely still out there, but the modern sonic writers just do not give a damn
It would’ve been better if there was a plot twist after the “final boss” where Mephiles turns out to be the time eater and rejects both Eggmen which is when the true final boss is available. This is where Mephiles shows the true power of the time eater and therefore Sonic will need everyone’s help (except both Eggmen of course) kinda like in sonic heroes but in super their forms instead of having them cheer you on in the background.
Maybe that’s overdoing it but I hope I made my point clear…

Well I found an Infinite theory explaining that the Time Eater is a piece of Mephiles. Oh wait you know that.
Just wanted to point out a little something, coming from one of the OG Mephiles fangirls herself, but I do believe the "Mephiles is Time Eater" theory originates from me, on account of me drawing and posting the idea to DeviantArt on January 21st, 2012 (check it out, it's meta data marked) shortly after completing Generations for the first when my brain was going nuts with the idea.

I'm not saying I'm the first to make the connection, buuuuuuut I think I may have been part of the early theory forming on the idea.
My theory is the Time Eater is Solaris remains, the Ifirt creature is Solaris power, basically Iblis 2.0, and Mephiles is in the Phantom Ruby.
I think the time eater is a fragment of mephiles created by the paradox of being killed thus the events caused by his interference now don't exist in a timelines past future and present so due to this situation he must've been thrown into timeline which he can exist and must be like a broken version that fused with another being.
Wouldn't it have been interesting, if after the Time Eater fight, the game doesn't end ? It would actually only be the first half of the game.
After Robotnik and Eggman's defeat, the Time Eater could have freed itself from Eggman's machinery and flee. It would be the remnants of Solaris, and would try to regain its full power again by eating time itself. It's called the Time Eater for a reason.
Unlike Mephiles who's fully conscious or Iblis who's a powerful beast with not much intelligence, Time Eater would have speech and intelligence but, being a remnant of Solaris after it got destroyed, its mind would be broken.
The few times it would speak would be when it feels a sense of familiarity. Like, it would see Shadow and say "You... your face... your form..." The "your face... your form..." being what Mephiles says when getting sealed in the past, 10 years before '06.
After all, Mephiles being Solaris' intelligence and mind, when Solaris is reformed, it's basically still Mephiles in control. Well more like Solaris and Mephiles are basically the same being, just Mephiles doesn't have the raw power that became Iblis.
But yeah basically, Time Eater would try to become Solaris again by eating time itself, and that second half of the game would have other levels from Sonic's history, and Eggman and Robotnik would team up with the Sonics to stop it.
It could even eat important moments of these characters' lives. Like what if it ate the death of Maria (not to help Shadow of course, it just eats random moments). It would not affect Shadow since they're all in this white space that time doesn't affect (the hub world), but it would cause Maria to appear in said hub world too.
I can let you imagine how that would affect Shadow, especially when they defeat the Time Eater and that all the moments it ate are brought back, causing Maria to disappear again.
We could also explore Robotnik's character more and the difference between him and Eggman, since that wasn't really explored in the original game. Obviously the climax of the game would be Solaris' return.
Solaris would remember Shadow, Silver, Sonic... Everything, and it would continue with his plan from Sonic 06 that failed. But Sonic and Past Sonic would stop him. Sonic was able to defeat Perfect Chaos without being Super Sonic, showing he's grown stronger.
That's why he would defeat Solaris with only one other person assisting him this time. But that would only be phase one. Phase two would have Solaris again, and phase 3 would be after Solaris' defeat, as its broken body would become the Time Eater once again, that the two Sonics would defeat.
Shadow wouldn't help because since Maria's death and everything that resulted from it were eaten by Time Eater, if he comes out of the white space hub world, these changes would apply, and he would become an entirely different person, and he doesn't want that.
Or maybe that he would get out of the white hub world (in one of the levels for example), and so he would become this completely different Shadow. Ah Shadow who never lost Maria and who became a lot happier. But he wouldn't remember Sonic, Rouge, Omega...
Of course after Time Eater is defeated, and Shadow becomes himself again and has a tearful goodbye with Maria.
I don't know why Silver wouldn't help though. Maybe that he would help actually and there would indeed be 3 people fighting Solaris, Past Sonic, Present Sonic, and Silver being in the role of Future Sonic, as he would be revealed to be Sonic's descendant.
I have plenty of ideas as you can see, though I probably wouldn't use them all for this concept.

I think the Time eater in sonic generations is a reborn mephiles when surviving the defeat of Solaris and a paradox that profented his existence and that means mephiles The dark will return in sonic frontiers maybe and after classic sonic and modern sonic in sonic generations destroy the Time eater they didn't know that mephiles is in the Time eater core the whole time and after the time eater was destroyed mephiles took so much time to collect Time fragments of the core of Time eater so mephiles could return and reborn.

Em, I was really disappointed in Generations ever since it came out. Because it came after Colors which infantilized the lore, and just by design, this game only lived on nostalgia. It was the same letdown as if the favorite show you watch makes a special 100th episode, but instead of it being exciting and awesome, it only consists of clips from the previous episodes you already saw, and has no real story. Saw it way too many times. There was no reason to get excited for Generations.
Also, the prospect of Sonic teaming up with... Classic Sonic... gave away that they didn't care about the story at all, and that gameplay ruled supreme and dictated poor story. Gameplay that was not even that good.
Nah the time eater was the worst boss
