    Hey NL, I want to thank you for getting me back into chess. In return I wanted to share something with you that I came across in a recent game. I have been learning the Vienna Gambit, IM Levy Rozman's signature opening. There is one line where if your opponent is both dumb enough to blunder the knight and galaxy brained enough to find Qh4+ then the best response according to the computer is to bongcloud to e3. I don't know if Levy would approve but if stockfish wants you to Bongcloud then I feel like your obligated.
    For your consideration
    Vienna Gambit accepted, Bongcloud variation:
    1. e4 e5 2. Nc3 Nf6 3. f4 exf4 4. e5 Nd5 5. Nxd5 Qh4+ 6. Ke2 f3+ 7. Ke3

    1:20 if they play Bd3 you just capture a pawn.
    Even if you play Nf6 and Nxf6+ exf6 Bxf5 happens, you have a Qa5+ -> Qxf5, although white is better

    I like the pace you play at. I checked out GothamChess' channel and with his videos I have no idea what's going on at all, I feel like you need to be an experienced chess player to have any chance of following along. With your videos though that's not a problem, I understand what's happening and why.

    • @Hsel-lc1wt
      @Hsel-lc1wt 3 роки тому +4

      Gotham makes a lot of videos specifically for beginners where he goes slower and explains more - I'd definitely recommend checking those out :)

    • @AndreasTPC
      @AndreasTPC 3 роки тому +2

      @@Hsel-lc1wt I did check a couple, but I can't really follow it. Even in videos for beginners he'll just rapidly list a bunch of moves, like that's supposed to mean something. He doesn't explain the significance of the moves. Does he think that just saying what a move is makes the implications of that move obvious? Maybe it does and I'm just stupid, but when I get a list of 10 moves in 20 seconds all I see is "a bunch of pieces moved" and I have no idea what it all means. Or am I supposed to just memorize it and not bother with understanding?
      When watching NL I get it tough. I see him considering different alternatives at a specific point, and from seeing what they have in common I understand what he's trying to do. When he considers an alternative and rejects it I can see why it's bad, and that the move he played instead doesn't have the same flaw.

  • @pattininja95
    @pattininja95 3 роки тому

    So the beginning of this video is a perfect example. That was the main line of the classical Caro-Kann. I don't know the full line, but I know it up to 4.Be5. That sequence for someone who plays a decent amount of the Caro-Kann like you shouldn't take 40 seconds. From your side it shouldn't take more than 10 because by now you know those are the right moves

    Meanwhile knight b6 would have won the exchange back for white for like 5 straight moves because it traps the rook (rook a2 would save the exchange for a move but would lose the whole rook instead because after bishop b8 the rook would have been well and truly trapped), the opponent doesn't play it and Northernlion doesn't prevent it at any point while he is commenting about how that move might be annoying.
