Now there is only one of the Highwaymenn left. Thank you Kris for your service to our country, and for all your years of song writing and singing. A true gentleman.
I was just about to say the same thing. My favorite song of Kris Kristofferson's, was..."Why Me Lord". I had read that he wrote the song as a tribute to God and his new found faith, which he said "saved his life".
It's a tough life really in that business. The demanding schedules, pressures, late night hours, whatever one does to their body, gotta drain the body out.
Technically he didn't _STEAL_ it. He just _Deviated from training parameters._ He landed, in Johnny Cash's back yard (It was country estate outside Nashville), apologized for the interruption and handed him a demo of _Sunday Morning Coming Down_ and asked Johnny to listen to it. Johnny did and the rest is music history. *This man will be missed.*
He led an amazing life! He did more in his 88 years than most anybody reading this forum. I had the opportunity to meet him when I was senior in High School stationed at Clark Air Base, Philippines. I was in an after-school vocational training program which for me meant I spent the afternoons in the cockpit of a F-4 Phantom simulator. Mr Kristofferson came through (this was sometime between mid '85 and mid '86) as part of a USO tour and for his base orientation they brought him to the F-4 simulator. I was given the task of getting him into the cockpit and familiarizing him with basics so he could have some fun. It was there that I realized he knew the basic indicators already because he flew choppers in Vietnam! I had no idea - only knew of him as an entertainer up to that point. He was VERY humble and down-to-earth. Really the most unassuming person given the amazing things he did in his life. RIP, you will be missed!!

It's rare that I get emotional when a celebrity dies, even when I'm a fan of theirs. I usually just exclaim "No! That's so sad!" and think about them for a minute before moving on. His music is still hits me in the core, resonating with some foundational humanity in all of us that he somehow managed to find and speak to. RIP to this titan of a man, who helped so many people make it through the night with his music, honesty, and wisdom.
