    Thank you so much for sharing the update on the farm. I could sit and watch your videos all day long. It's so relaxing and wholesome.
    I hope you can get your shed dried in good before a hefty snow comes on too. The farm is thriving but also getting ready for the winter months.
    Much thanks and gratitude for all.
    Until next time. Sending love and support from Florida 🌺💫💫💫

    Love your videos and today, I especially loved the rabbits eating the greens. So very cute! I have 12 chickens and two large ducks, a Pekin and a black Swedish, that guard my chickens from hawks as would geese when free ranging in our yard. I love them all so much and love seeing yours and the progress you’re making on your farm!

    I just added a few light Sussex chickens to my flock. They don't like to roost. They would sleep under my other girls in the poop. So I had to go out at night and physically put them on the roosting bar. It took about 4 days and now no more sleeping under the other girls.

    Another great episode! As for the white sussex chicken not roosting, could be a few of things she may have bumle foot or othe injuries to her feet, can't grip the perch.
    Could be she is overwheight and with malting hasn't got enough power to fly up there. Age is another issue, older chickens will striggle to fly up. You can buil her a walk up ramp to the perch, check her foot for bumble foot/ injuries. She looks like she is the roosters fave and so she may be exhausted, might be worth separating so he can bong with the other chickens. Just a few pointers.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  8 місяців тому +2

      Aww thnx, yes I’ve checked her feet and didn’t notice anything abnormal. She’s 3 years old now. Maybe I’ll try separating her once I move those little white ducks out.

    What was the reasoning to sell the geese? Curious as I have flock of 5 (three successfully hatched from the original male and two females) and I’m going into year 2 of ownership.
    Their most productive functions are keeping the grass clipped and making a lot of noise. They don’t do what I originally got them for - guarding the chickens. On the flip side, they are fascinating animals and take care of themselves.

    • @HiddenSpringFarm
      @HiddenSpringFarm  8 місяців тому +4

      Well I hatched out a bunch of eggs planning to keep a pair as guards for the chicken yard. They were raised with the chicks so I’d like to think they’ll protect them but we’ll see. It works well for our ducks in the orchard. Once I selected the best two, I needed to either harvest or sell the rest. I chose to sell. On top of that I’m getting to the point the daily chores are adding up so I gotta be careful to manage my time and keeping up with my life and UA-cam stuff. They are certainly fascinating and sustainable too, I enjoy keeping them even though they can be little buggers sometimes 🪿

    • @VeryMiley
      @VeryMiley 8 місяців тому +1

      Makes sense ! Thank you!
      They are mischievous. They chew and swallow everything. So they have their own pen. Refilling their bathing pools daily is a chore …. When it’s not worth it then I’ll reconsider. They are better at grooming and caring for themselves than the chickens - which need a lot more human intervention (we have 21). I won’t hatch any more eggs. On average geese live 20 years so will outlive me!!😂

      Rabbits are just for their manure and fun. If we were in an apocalypse I could eat them, very sustainable. But just simply have no interest. If I really can sell the young pigs, I’ll figure out the bacon thing. I love bacon but would like to sell them first, but I can’t keep feeding too many pigs with no return so it’ll have to get balanced out.

      I wouldn't say rabbit is similar to chicken, apart from it being a white meat. Rabbit is leaner with a milder and slightly sweet flavour. Depending how it's raised, it can also have quite a "gamey" taste.. a little like venison.. It's a very popular dish here in Italy 🇮🇹

    Lovely video. Looks like Fozzie got into the leftover Halloween candy with me 😂. Surprised to only see one kitty out.
    I love your rabbit setup, and your chickens too. I'm contemplating letting my chickens out of their coop for the first time in weeks after the neighbour's dog attacked them. It certainly freaked the poor chickens out, and a king shepherd has no fear of people like a wild animal here might.
    Nameless bunny is adorable. Billy's sons might not be as friendly to him though. I've contemplated a rabbit condo with more than one floor for my 2, who see each other through the fence. They were supposed to be sisters 😂 oops!
    Thanks for a great video.
