Back when Richard and co used to test cars normal people could actually afford!..... Have to say He's aged very well in the 18 years since. The Bora still looks pretty tidy too.
@@johannesdatblue4164 how many miles yours have traveled already? I just got mine Bora a couple days back 2.0 would be nice if you could share some experience about the car
I sold mine today after i had it in three years because of money issues. It was my first car to own. I couldn't be more satisfied. Love the Bora, an amazing car to have :D
How far we have come. Looking at today's car reviews of expensive sportscars that Richard makes, seeing him praising Ventos and Boras seems so strange :)
my mom has a 2000 VW Bora, it has heated seats, cruise control, trip computer, ESP, power folding mirrors, leather steering wheel, original VW 16inch rims, headlight washer, climatronic, 5-speed gear box + R, and a 2.0i AQY engine with 115hp. it's a pretty nice car for its age.
I bought one of these for 600 quid in December to keep the miles off my DC5. Got the 1.9tdi 130bhp sport with, now, 157,000on the clock. I actually really like it. So much so that I haven't yet got the dc5 out of the garage and I'm after a second to strip out and turn into a track car.
I bought mine because it was cheaper than the equivalent golf hatchback, and because it wasn’t classed as a hot hatch it was considerably cheaper to insure also
Great cars, even the 1.9tdi 130 and 150bhp models were faster than the vr6 4 motion version, and the TDI was available in 4 motion too, back in the early 2000s nobody else was making quick 4 cylinder turbo diesels capable of 60mpg with 4wd...I have a TDI Bora sport modified from a 130bhp to 275bhp and more torque than any petrol 'hot hatch' even by today's standards...alot of tuners such as darkside have the 1.9tdi doing sub 10 second quarter mile times it's a highly underrated engine and the gear box can take a beating..the vr6 can make silly power with turbo kits etc, even the 1.8 turbo can make good power with a few modern modifications and was available in 4wd...not a fan of this v5 engine it's slow and guzzles fuel, fit a turbo on it tho and it will more than make up for the poor mpg..great sleepers the Bora imo.
I own a tdi bora wagon and i experienced first hand that this car is built like a tank... This january i got hit while standing still from behind by a 7 tone garbage truck... The impact made the rear of the car lift off the ground and i flew 30 with it, stuff flew all over the place in the cabin but i have to say... Apart from a slight neck pain that went away a week later the damage the car had got fixed within 250€ that being a crack in the plastic bumper, and i replaced the hatch because it was cheaper than to fix the metal and the lock and repaint it
Yup, BMW parts are disgustingly expensive. You can pretty much get all brand new parts for this car very cheap and there actually are parts available to purchase.
I have the last version released in Mexico in 2007, 4 speed automatic. I still love this car almost 10 years later and I don't know how I´ll feel the day I'll have to give it up. 167,000 km and it feels good as new.
The TDI MK4 Jetta was one fun little car, especially considering it had only 90HP. Felt tight and classy, and there really wasn't anything like it in the USA. I loved the simple, functional looks. I bought a Passat instead, because it had more room and was only slightly more expensive. Still, the Jetta was more fun.
Thats crazy that the 99 jetta/bora got the nice hinges albeit a cheaper stamped version of the mechanisim on the phaeton but hinges that dont crush cargo but the mk5 they reverted right back to the old cheap poorly designed crap
Whole VW thing from 2000s to 2020's is a story of downfall in craftsmanship and quality. Even most premium manufacturers cant build a Bora level of perceived quality cars because of heavy costs and regulations. That car was a one absolute german tank for the masses.
got the 1.9 non pd tdi, 21 years old, 160k and still going strong, has its niggles such as interior lights becoming intermittant but its 21 years old...
The MK4 Jetta/Bora (depending on your market) shared almost no body panels with the Golf. However engines (except the 3.2 VR6) transmissions(again, except the DSG), suspension parts(?) and interior parts were either similar or the exact same.
Pretty sure the front doors are the same as 5 door golf, interior is the same for the most part, the front wings bonnet and front bumper is interchangeable, think the windshield is the same
The Bora with a face swap (Gora) looks pretty sick. I don't get why people prefer the 2-door GTIs / V6. I wish my MK4 Golf V5 had 4 doors like our other 1.6 daily driver. So much more practical to load/unload stuff from the back seat and I prefer the shorter front doors for narrow parking lots.
Volkswagen1990 yes that's what I meant, recently the tranny went out so I have to get it replaced I'm gonna find a tranny at a scrapyard and install it myself I'm familiar with the layout. It's a great car and it still runs but does not change gears so I don't mess with it
The thing I love the most about the Jetta and I've been inside of Audi A8's and bmw's but the Jetta can corner like nobodies business 45mph smooth cornering
5. He says it in the video and it's on the badge. It's also actually a Vr5 as it only has a 15 degree gap between the banks which sit under a singular cylinder head. It's quite the intriguing bit of kit. The V6 model is also a Vr6 for the same reason
Absolutely a great car, got a 2001 v6 4motion manual back in 2004 had only 7000kms on it, it's got 210,000km on it now and I'm still in love with it
Back when Richard and co used to test cars normal people could actually afford!..... Have to say He's aged very well in the 18 years since. The Bora still looks pretty tidy too.
Yeah, now texted Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6 and all those things just in dreams can see
got one. with the 1.6sr 15" wheels. so damn smooth even on worst condition "roads". a dream of a car!
Not fair , they did a nice, practical piece on the ford fiesta.

now is just for show .. back then was more practical
But the bora is a fucking mint box sir
My Bora is now 20 years old - from 2000. 🚗
Im about to buy one 😀
Best car I ever owned 1.9 Diesel is a beast
Just purchased one as my first car. Tdi
Haha, good old Hammond reviewing my car! And he has nice words to say about it.
This car is amazing I have owned a bora since 2003 my bora is from 1998
I’m currently looking to buy a V5 170bhp, looks like a great car

2002 1.9L TDI in silver has been my car for years and I adore it. Surprisingly economical while being a joy to drive. Couldn't recommend more.
I bought mine because it was cheaper than the equivalent golf hatchback, and because it wasn’t classed as a hot hatch it was considerably cheaper to insure also
My Grandparents actually own that exact model and colour scheme! My Grandma always calls it the Boring Bora lol.
2005.5 MK4 GLI, 1.8 6speed awp. Live it, love it, still have my 1998 Vento 2.0, the MK5 is where things started to go wrong imo.
If I find a nice example on the market, I'm going back to this car. Loved it so much..

Top gear never reviewed any Jettas and I've seen all the season. This is quite a find.
Poor Man's BMW? well thats just fine as BMW parts are over priced anyway, so in reality the Bora is the better car.
Tambo74
Well, here in Brazil, VW's are very overpriced, so I still have a BMW over a VW every time...
As long you didn't bought the V5...
24v vr6🤙

this bora has a beatiful sounding vr5 and richard didn`t stepped on the gas once. What a shame
that is absolutely not a poor mans bmw, its a great car compared to any of those ''vehicles'' that bmw makes.

Showing results for 1.9 TDI.

No, not similar. It's the exact same car just with a different badge depending entirely on where it's sold
Always liked it’s style looks like a smaller Passat, the thing why did VW pick such a name for it.
Any reek?
I bought mine last year v5 agz engine
Agri spec top pick
We have got this car there is 12 years ago bora was powerfull
V5...interesting...
+NSXShockwave vr5 actually
+jules leenders Then why does it say V6?
Matthew Mangiaracina it doesn't...
It says v6 on the front and back of the car...
Matthew Mangiaracina no it says v5 on this car. you also have the v6 and the vr5 badges.
but the engine fundementaly is a vr-engine
Used to own the car, beautiful and great drive but the 5 cylinder engine delivered poorer sound to it's predecessor, the VR6
Nhlanhla the VR6 has one of the sweetest engine notes of any car ever
JDM Lover you can say that again, I so wish I had owned one
Own this car with a turbo kit 300 bhp =)
I'd just buy an 1.6 8v with 210k km.....with gpl....a good car for long trip.....

These cars really are poor mans BMW. Build quality and handling are similar
If they're that similar then I'd say it's more like "smart man's BMW". What's the point in paying more money for the same product?
When BMW make a engine as good sounding as a VR6 come back to me.
@@DabDabGoose #EXACTLY. That's why BMV 300s series are the only cars ppl recommend.

its not a 6 cylinder, its 5 cylinder which block and pistons work as V5, but with only one cylinder head... its unique and very good engine
