I agree with you about not banning books. We have a right to choose whatever we want to read. Nobody should tell us what we can’t or cannot read. Have a good holiday season!
Good to see you, Summer! Nice to see some Summer in Winter😀. I hope you continue to find a better work/life balance in your life. Love to see your Christmas cactus in bloom! Been reading the Dickens Christmas books with Katie over at Books and Things. Also reading Dune and the Iliad but that’s been on hold - this past couple of weeks has been too busy with life etc. Hoping to do more reading soon. Love your blanket - it’s looking so good. All the best this holiday season! 🎄
Your Christmas cactus is blooming nicely. Around 50 books a year is great. I am retired and read about three hours a day and that's what I usually total. Mans Search for Meaning was used to establish some fundamental principles used in modern psychology. Purpose gives meaning and healthy longevity to life among others. A Prayer for Owen Meany is excellent and Cider House Rules is also pretty amazing. Great to see you again. Have a wonderful Christmas.
@@jobuckley2999 Thank you Jo. Cider House Rules has a great reputation. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas 🎄 Also my aloe plant is getting ready to bloom but it’s too high on the shelf to see. 😊
Hey Summer, Good to see you and enjoy a cozy hang as always. I don't really keep track but I've read nowhere near 47 books this year, that's for sure! 🙂 Am sure there were plenty of exceptions from family to family, though it seems our generation as kids were mostly left to our own devices as to what we'd explore for ourselves overall...and that's as it should be...in my completely unbiased opinion... Still want to read that Victor Frankl. I'm reading a book by Lisa Philips called Behind the Voices, about public radio....Also have a couple of stacks on tap to read in the new year...since I'm a total 'mood reader' it could go in any variety of directions, ha. Wishing you the best at finding more balance in the new year. More time for cats, books, family, and creativity...can't beat that! -Carm
I try not to think about the numbers of books that I’ve read, targets really don’t help me and I find I read less. Force of Nature sounds like an interesting book and maybe one I’ll keep an eye out for.
Wow. Simon Birch brings back some memories. I watched it a couple times when I was younger. I don't remember anything about it except for crying both times I watched it. I didn't realize it was based on a book.
@@savagereads Yes! I didn’t know it was a movie until I started reading it and was told. I wonder why they changed the name. Oh great, I had a feeling that I was going to cry 😆
Salutations. Good to see you again. That Frankel book is good. There are sections that i think of often. I worked a 3 12 hour day schedule at one point. Those are rough days! But it has compensations. Good luck to you!
Your experience reflects mine - not that my parents were big readers - in that the thought of banning or prohibiting this that or another book simply did not arise. Your plans all sound excellent.
Really excited to have discovered your channel, I also read a lot of classics, magical realism, fantasy & mythology, so I think our videos share many preoccupations. I am about to launch into 'Hild' & 'Spear', & I'm excited about it as, like you, I've heard really good things, & Nicola Griffith interviews so well. I live in an off-grid tiny home with the love of my life, an ex-racer, rescue greyhound named Billy-Blue. He is such a gentle, affectionate, brindle boy. I am very lucky to have found him. I really look forward to following your bookish adventures.
@@apoetreadstowrite Thank you so much for leaving a message so I could find your channel! I first heard about Nicola Griffith through an interview on a show called Well Read, I think PBS channel. Dear Summer, this was so nice and relaxing to watch. Work life balance is a constant struggle: even 12 hours sounds like a lot to me! I try and make my busy days manageable but I am so glad to have weeks of down time now between the semesters. My body and mind need to relax. Thanks for reminding me about Hild: I want to try it! I really want to read Les Miserables, hopefully in 2025. I've started itbefore, but other books get in the way. I pulled my old paperback copy of Frankl's book off my shelf: maybe I'll reread it. I love your background and your blanket! Hope you have more time to rest and be with loved ones soon!
Nice update! I enjoyed this calming, enjoyable video, and agree with you about censoring. In my experience, whatever the parents are worried about the boys learning, they will probably learn it anyway through videogames, social media, friends at school, etc. It seems rather pointless to censor, especially when it comes to such a healthy habit as reading.
So wonderful to see a video from you !!!! Sounds like something very important and exciting coming up in 2025 for you, I'm so curious. For the first time ever this year I've kept track of all the books I've read, my total will be (yikes) only 24 books. Oh well, it's the reading itself that counts. Right now I've started 1 Q 8 4 by Haruki Murakami... it's interesting so far. I don't know how to describe it. Happy Holidays to you, Summer
