To be fair, The game does not NEED you to pay to complete the storyline, unlike others EA games. PvZ2 is a bit on the better side of EA Games.

But it also has nut in its name and when plant feeding it it becomes a stronger nut, just like all the other nuts

If you have Primal Wall-Nut and Normal Wall-nut, I’d recommend you use Primal Wall-nut because it has lower sun cost AND a less recharge time. But the only way that the normal/basic Wall-nut that we all know and love is if it’s at a higher lvl then the Primal Wall-nut.
