Depending on the destination, I may book all of the arrangements myself using hotel and airline customer loyalty/ credit card rewards.
This woman is a scammer and needs to be in jail for fraud and theft. The incident last month was a lack of prompt communication on her part, but this is a new level of bs.
Booking your own travel is simple!! I've been doing it since the 80s. Been to over 30 states and a dozen countries. Most of these new travel agents have been on 5-6 trips, and all of a sudden, according to them, they're experienced travelers. I seen them on social media advertising their services. It seems to be the new hustle, easy entry barrier without a lot of capital required.
There are benefits booking with reputable travel agencies. Its not so much about discounts but they handle every aspect and they are responsible for your travel.
You need to make sure you report her host agency, InteleTravel. They don't vet their agents, and the UK has had a few of their agents caught scamming. One of them, Lyne Barlow, was jailed for over £1 million fraud last year
Have you guys filed a police report yet? Did you take her to small claims court? This is grand theft and since she did this online you can make a complaint to the FBI. I would send detailed letters to every single cruise lines security department with her picture and details. Since she seems to like to stay in the Caribbean and Central America, I would send complaints to the prosecutors in every single Caribbean country! Since you were a victim in Aruba, send notice to both the Aruban gov and the Dutch gov. Make her know the walls are closing in and her chance to vacay on others dime won't work! So shocked that after doing this to so many women, non have thrown hands with her! Sister would pay me if she didn't pay anyone else! 🤣
This is why I always book my own travel directly and never use travel agents. That way, I'm sure of everything that's going on, and if something happens, it is on me.
I am a travel agent. I love booking trips for clients so they can have the same types of wonderful experiences as me. I make my clients' payments directly to the cruise lines. I send a reservation confirmation with all the details of payments, cabin type, cabin number, etc. I let them know to make an account, which then will show their cruise. Those people were paying her directly. I don't allow anyone to make payments to me. And they have to complete a credit card authorization form to protect themselves and me. Monica was having them pay her directly and never booking their trip!!
Even if I am traveling in or with a group I always make my own accommodations because I do not want to leave anything to chance and I do not want to be stranded anywhere
Agreed. Now with everything online, travel agents don’t really save you much time. Unless you are planning a multi destination trip and going to non-conventional locations. I used a travel agent for my honeymoon because we were going to a place that needed small prop planes to travel to and it was multiple destination honeymoon. So a travel agent was well worth it.
This!!! How she didn't go to jail over the cruise?? I really don't understand she is not locked up! It's embarrassing and just giving travel agents a bad name.😡
I've booked direct and with a travel agent. Sometimes they can get you deals you can't get on your own. I've never paid a TA using Paypal knowing their policies about payments. How much you want to guess she was telling people to mark the payment as Friends and Family to avoid fees. In my dealings with TAs, every payment or credit card auth has been quickly followed by an identified charge direct from the cruise line and a receipt. She is taking advantage of inexperienced travelers who might not notice the red flags we'd immediately see.
Back when I lived in NJ, my ex and I booked a vacation in Banff and Colorado through a travel agent she knew that used to get her hair done at my ex`s salon. Got itinerary from agent and she booked 4 one way flights for each of us, definitely jacking up the cost of the trip. I called and we got two round trip tickets each of us and I paid for the hotels in Banff and Lake Louise by check. Trip was great BUT I received a credit card statement that had tickets booked on an airline we did not fly on. I called the agent and her daughter in law told me that "it is your land package." I reminded her that i had paid that portion by check and told her I was disputing the airline tickets (had not been used yet) Charge was taken off my credit card and heard nothing until I read in local newspaper that agent and daughter in law had been indicted on credit card fraud. Her company went out of business due to the bad publicity.
There’s another travel agent from Chicago that stole thousands from people. She scammed me $2400 and I felt lucky considering others she scammed. Be careful out there make sure agents and bookings are legit!
I have used multiple agents and have never had any issues. Jenny from La Lido Loca, Nathan and Mark from Cruising with the Kollaszars and Mick from the Carnival Suit Guy have all been great.

As a travel agency owner I'm really sad that this keeps happening. She isn't showing us in the best light. I'm not sure about her payment processes but as a travel agency I'm so shocked at her processes. I always keep my clients in the loop with everyone even going down to reconfirming travel details over and over again until the client leaves for their trip and I'm still available to them to support their travel needs while they are on vacation. This is so sad this keeps happening because I would never want any one that chooses to work with my agency to experience anything like this...
It makes me sad for you guys. For the travel agents that are genuinely out there trying to do good work for their clients. Then here comes this bad apple 😤! Though I can understand with situations like this it would be easier for someone to book their own trip. But for me and my mom we for the most part always went through a TA to book our trips. I remember in the good old days before the internet, a "travel agent" was someone who worked in or owned a "travel agency." A travel agency was a brick and mortar place where you go and sit with a person who usually knew everything about the place you wanted to go or they would call somebody on the phone who knew. They booked the trip over the phone. All of this was done while you sat and listened. There was no hiding behind the internet.
@@Taniere Just imagine the world with no internet and all you can do with a phone is talk to people. All money exchanges were done in person or through the mail by mailing someone a check or money order. It wasn't that long ago. The Internet became available to civilians (it was created by the military) in the 90s but it wasn't in every household until the early 2000s. Correct me if I am wrong.

I don’t EVER use a travel agent and I have a niece who is a travel agent! Do your research, the internet has a wealth of information. If you are nervous about booking on your own, use a well known, highly rated travel agency- not an agent. At least you have guarantees they have to provide if things go wrong.
Some of us are honest, hard working, and truly care for ALL OF OUR CLIENTS! It is sad that she is ruining our reputation. I am building my business and helping my clients to the best of my abilities, and taking full responsibilites for any faults.
Does anyone know if there's any travel insurance that would help against fraud? Obviously you'd have to buy it separate from the agent but if there is, I'm thinking I might start adding it with my other travel insurance.
✋🏽why are people still using “travel agents”? You can book these trips yourself and setup payment plans if you need to and not get scammed and stranded 💁🏽♀️
This is why I will NEVER use a TA! After the early 00s, it became a useless service to most people since you can easily book your own trips now. None of the people scammed by this TA would have been in the position they are in if they booked directly with the cruise line or hotels. If you're worried about traveling without a "backup person" buy a good travel insurance plan and feel support you in any issues that pop up. 🤷🏼♀️
@@lisai2110 That's NOT always true, some TA's charge their clients in addition to the percentages they receive from airlines, Cruise lines and hotels. I am NOT slamming TA's, they have to make money, just NOT my money. Lol
It’s so odd how she can successfully sell so many large groups. I imagine that she is focusing on people who might not typically use credit cards travel. It seems predatory. PayPal? Really? It’s a luxury vacation, Amex, Visa pay it off at the ending of the month…if that’s not affordable…you shouldn’t be going on such a trip.
"Vacation of a lifetime" Some of these people may have been saving up for a long time to afford this ONE vacation. They can't afford to be scammed out of it, and have lost much more than money. Not everybody uses credit cards, and PayPal is a far better choice than Western Union. I have cards, but I myself use PayPal on occasion. It's easy, convenient, and keeps my credit card info hidden.
Unbelievable 😮 I feel so bad for them. Now I'm scared and I need a travel agent 😔😭... J I'm going to try yours because I trust you and your associates 🙏❣️
Oh those people will never get a refund from her. They might form a class action to try and get money back, but she's likely "judgement proof" and will file bankruptcy to avoid paying anything back. The best those people can do at this point is file fraud with their credit cards and hope they find in their favor. If they paid any other way, well they are better off hiring a tax person this year and seeing if they can pull a 1%er and claw back at least some of the money that way. Sad situation.
Actually the woman initially interviewed by the news with the cruise incident did receive her money back early April, and was also promised to be reimbursed for her airfare, which as of 3 Saturdays ago now, had not received.
@CurvaceousElite probably wasn't really "her" money. Monica likely is playing the shell game with money 💰 paying hottest fire first, not paying others because she's been using the funds to live on instead of the travel.
My clients get all the info. My clients get a receipt for every payment. They get the booking numbers for flights, hotels, and cruises. I don't play with people's money or time.
I would never use a travel agent for a cruise. I’ve given them chances when I’ve already had comparisons directly from the Cruiseline and it’s almost always not as good of a deal, or the travel agency benefits are really just smoke and mirrors that more experienced travelers would know.
REMEMBER 2020? NOT TO MENTION WHEN SCENARIOS LIKE THE MAN WHO WAS GOING TO SUE A CRUISE COMPANY BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T TELL HIM TO TURN HIS PHONE OFF, NOT TO MENTION SHOULD YOU GET STUCK IN ANOTHER COUNTRY, HOW ATE YOU GOING TO GO FROM ONE COUNTRY TO ANOTHER WITHOUT YOUR PASSPORT, BUT JUST A BIRTH CERTIFICATE?? OR ANY TRAVEL SITUATIONS YOU CANNOT EXPECT A COMPANY TO ASSIST...
I know in the instance of the cruise and the Aruba trip that was cancelled, it was a planned event. Monica's travel business had been used in the passed to coordinate the Twin Cities cruise takeover event. They plan and offer events in coordination, so if you just went on the 90s cruise, you would not have necessarily had access the the TC Takeover event. Just like with Aruba, it was a Mother's Day Getaway, with planned events and parties, but the agent. In this instance she marketed herself as not only the Travel Agent but the event planner as well, which is why she travels with many of her groups. Now, overall when it comes to Travel Agents, some folks utilize them for group travel to ensure booking remains together, some folks just like the extra hand in planning their vacations, some TAs know travel hacks some may not know, they are good for helping you mitigate issues, and work to ensure travelers safety, many times they can help you find amazing rates, or can help you plan a unique trip that might be a lot of work to plan out. TAs can be very beneficial and sometimes not. Not everyone is like you or even myself who feels completely comfortable planning out our vacations.

Always buy travel insurance!!
As someone who is just about to become a travel agent myself, this is very concerning. Thanks for bringing this forward J!
I book my own vacation, I may give Jay a try
✋🏽why are people still using “travel agents”? You can book these trips yourself and setup payment plans if you need to and not get scammed and stranded 💁🏽♀️
That’s why I don’t use the middle man ie travel agent. Book directly.
Thanks for your great coverage
This is why I will NEVER use a TA! After the early 00s, it became a useless service to most people since you can easily book your own trips now. None of the people scammed by this TA would have been in the position they are in if they booked directly with the cruise line or hotels. If you're worried about traveling without a "backup person" buy a good travel insurance plan and feel support you in any issues that pop up. 🤷🏼♀️
Not to mention the money you save by booking your own trip, some TA charge too much for their "professional assistance".
I book my own travel.
You pay the same price with a travel agent. Only difference is the suppliers pay agent a commission vs some random person behind the scene.

That's NOT always true, some TA's charge their clients in addition to the percentages they receive from airlines, Cruise lines and hotels. I am NOT slamming TA's, they have to make money, just NOT my money. Lol
WOW!! JUST......WOW!!!😲😳😱🤯🥺🥹😢😭😭
What about other travel agents 🤦🤔 they don't end up doing this to people
Nope I do not at all its already very hard for me as well smh
As a person currently living and working in Minneapolis, MINNESOTA, I hadn't heard of this woman before BUT I thank you for telling us about her.
Yep, but sadly the majority of Americans don’t pay it off monthly.
So let me guess…the people abandoned at the port…in Miami while she went on….never will see their money? So sad😊
5:33 - I'm not saying I'm a saint. I'm a criminal too. You go from one criminal activity to another. You are not locking her up Love that lady. ♥♥♥
Same!!!
Goodness, she sounds like the Tiffany Henyard of travel agents!
I would never use a travel agent for a cruise. I’ve given them chances when I’ve already had comparisons directly from the Cruiseline and it’s almost always not as good of a deal, or the travel agency benefits are really just smoke and mirrors that more experienced travelers would know.
A large group of my cousins got scammed booking a cruise via travel agent years ago.
Omg 😱 this is why I book everything through the Cruise or my personal Agent.
Again? What the heck
My hubbybooks our cruises him self always and yes it is easy. You can make payments you don't have to pay it all at once.
Can someone explain to me why you need a travel agent? We managed to make it to CR for a 2 week stay just fine.
Ive been on 3 cruises ive booked it myself. You got to be carefully who you use.
I don’t understand why anyone would use a travel agent in this day and age.
First time travelers and cruises might, if you do not that's fine .Traveling is not a one size fits all approach.
Thankfully I love booking my own travel and searching for deals
I've used the same Travel Agent for 15 years. She is amazing.
When I took my family to Disney, my travel agent Joe was absolutely amazing..
Apparently Monica has not learned her lesson, then she passes out to avoid further confrontation! Her day in court will come, I hope.
😂😂😂 the woman at 5:34 had me crying laughing (she's not Monica, but might have been in the past. Damm!)
It may be tedious and cost a little more, but I prefer to make my own travel arrangements and I book excursions at my resort or on Viator.
She needs to be arrested.
This is why I do my own bookings no need to for a TA
Wait…what?! She just sped past that statement admitting herself to be a criminal too!!
😂😂😂
Love how this turned into a commercial for you
What makes people think she’s a travel agent in the first place?
She markets herself as one.
@@ShootinTheBriez anybody can say they’re a travel agent it doesn’t mean she actually is one.
I’m guessing she’s not a travel agent to begin with.
@@thestooges333 I think people are stating this because this is how she has been conducting her business for years. She might not be but tue impression she has given others and how she runs her business is what people are going by.
She is a traveling again. My party used her before with no issues. It has to be an explanation
