Del Shannon made me fall in love with rock and roll. Upon hearing of his death, I was driving in my car and I had to pull over and started crying. Your music will live on forever.
In September 2021 I heard a song "Johnny Remember Me" I pulled the car over and cried. The first girl I ever loved died at age 32 of cancer. I'll always remember her
The same here I was driving on my way to work when it was announced on the radio that Del Shannon had died. Since this was a Hard Rock station they played "Running Down The Dream" by Tom Petty. Like driving was a part of my job the truck that I drove I listened to radio on the oldies station. Every time I got on the company truck and listened to the radio they were playing his music and bringing out trivia on him. That certainly was a very sad day.
You speak so eloquently for all of us, Bruce. It is [still] inconceivable Del Shannon is gone. His flame burns brightly, however, by all who love, appreciate, and miss him.
I am bingeing on Del. I have always known his songs but, I suddenly have the capacity to appreciate his PERFORMANCES! He is sexy, strong, sincere, and really wants to give the audience his best! I just love Del. I was a little kid when he was at his peak but I've always been partial to "my parents' music" more than my own generation.
It is so unfortunate how artists were not paid their due in royalties such as Del, Jackie Wilson and Frankie Lymon. Del is so unique and his music always touches my heart and soul.
You have to put the time context in play to really get the feel for his songs. Picture big 1960's cars with chrome all over them, twenty-five cent gasoline, and a country that was robust and working. The future was bright or so we thought. Great song.
There is more than a trace of misogyny in Shannon's lyrics, and that's a good thing. When he was at his peak in the early '60's, there were millions of boys who identified with the rejection his songs spoke of.No one thought it was wrong to feel that way; it was just a fact of life that love disappointed. If he came out today, he would have to attend sensitivity classes. Now there is no spokesman for teenage frustration. When you're going through a rough time, it's nice to know you're not alone. That's what he did.
I loved Del Shannon’s songs, his live performances, and his attitudes. I was crushed when I heard he had taken his own life and wondered why? He had so many of us that loved him, but that little town flirt broke his heart and he never recovered. He went through the motions of living, but he was always broken hearted. I know the feeling just like he did, and I exist empty hearted. 😢
Every where he performed this Del Shannon Got Ovations...man he was so good. He wrote great timless songs, and delivered them perfectly...yet i wonder if he knew he was really loved.??? Beautiful powerful voice...I really miss him...Prozac didnt allow Del to sleep, he had a bad bout of insomnia. And you know the rest....sadly
Del was the greatest Rock 'n Roll guitarist as well as a brilliant songwriter. He signed a contract when he was 17 that gave all his money to a couple of greedy record producers and left him with only crumbs from his talent. He had to tour constantly because the only money that he got was his part of the gate. Even a song written for another performer was taken from him (financially). I saw him at the Country Aire in Appleton Wisconsin. He had a recording studio in his garage he called his "crying room". At 55 it got to be too much.
His best recording! His voice was unique. So sad he left the music before his time - why was there nobody to help? He was my pin-up! I loved his voice and his looks. Nobody has replaced him in all these long years! 🥰
A unique, and a one off was Del..This was his last tour in Aussie, I think 1989 in a working mans club..I stumbled on a VHS, in a charity shop a few years back for 30p🤣, and burned it onto a dvd.. The whole concert was on there..His Wife Le anne joined him on stage with backups..He sang his last single he recorded on the show.(Walk Away).Loved all his .music. Runaway, Two kinds of Teardrops, Kelly, I go to Pieces, Broken Promises, Keep Searchi g etc RIP Del
This song was ahead of its time because it had the Mersey Beat 2 Yrs before the British Invasion took place in America. This song also influenced many British groups and Del Shannon recorded this song before he embarked on a trip to perform in England. It's great to hear this song performed live because the " Little Town Flirt " is a song that's pleasant to listen to.
When I was resident at Hebburn Labour Club in the 70s Del did a show and I'm embarrassed to admit even though I love his songs I can't remember anything about the night>
i'm not sure what year this is, but it's clearly many, many years after his hit recording. & he sounds GREAT here. really amazing. he was in line to replace roy orbison in the traveling wilburys, but killed himself just before that happened. emotionally fragile & suffering from debilitating bouts of depression, that prospect & perhaps self-doubt might have been too much for him.
Wish he could have found peace and be happy with his successes. For whatever reason, he didn't. Hope he's whalin away with his guitar somewhere. I guess he didn't realize how much we loved his music or it just wasn't enough to overcome other things.
+glesca100 I think it was Wendy ,or maybe Surfer Girl , or Ruby Baby, Donna The Prima Donna, or Dawn, Candy Girl, Claudette, or Cindy [ Cindy's Birthday??] , or Gina, Lucille, Maybelline, Carol, Caroline [No] , ---hmmmm--endless list, is it not??? Wolfrsky9

THATS WHEN A SONG WAS A SONG. I MISSED A LOT OF SONGS AT THE TIME AS I WAS IN THE ARMY. NOW IN MY 70,S FINALLY CATCHING UP A LITTLE.
It is so unfortunate how artists were not paid their due in royalties such as Del, Jackie Wilson and Frankie Lymon. Del is so unique and his music always touches my heart and soul.
brickclimber Jackie Wilson had a stroke on the stage of the Latin Casino in CHERRY HILL N.J.
I love that Del Shannon’s music sends me back to my young youth.
Rest in peace Del, you are terribly missed. One of the greats of an era that was truly great music.
From '62, one of my all-time favorites! Del Shannon was an incredible talent. RIP, Del. Wolfsky9, 69 y/o
One of the greatest voice’s in our time Del and Elvis was like family to me even if I didn’t know them

Love Del, this song has become one of my favorites
Still listening and loving Del's music in 2021.
Still listening in 12/31/23 his music is timeless.

Another great song by Del Shannon...
Outstanding singer🎸
This guy was one heck of a performer, he's better vocally in concert than he even was in the studio. Has better energy...

I think you got your maths slightly screwed up there - he was actually 26.
