I did this in November between Hiroshima and Hakata (in Fukouka). The sights were beautiful and it's an interesting experience if you have the time and in a lot of places you go next to the ocean and see the country side. We got off in a couple places along the way.
But it gets a bit tiring after dark, so after we passed Kokura we couldn't see much of Kyushu. So it's worth it if you have the time and want to go off the beaten path for a bit. The Shinkansen is a fast option, too, but the line is separate and it has several stretches that go through a tunnel inside the mountains, so you you see much less.

Slow trains, slow life. Lived in Japan for over a decade and took over 28 five-day Seishun 18 trips around the country to explore Japan. Shinkansens and limited express trains in Japan are amazing but if you want to see and experience the country, Seishun 18 is a great way to do it. Takes some scheduling work and adaptability but it’s worth it.

This was nice and interesting, how diferent the trains were. I assume they are all from different train companies. What I really like are all the sorts of sounds you hear in Japan. In Germany such things are non-existant. The trains are all very clean. I think, when I travel one time to Japan I will for sure try to travel a bit around with trains and ferrys.

Those trains are employed by one parent company, the JR Group.
Japan has a penchant for rolling stock designs, partly to avoid confusion which train is which, i.e. between the express and the local ones.

It’s more fun and far cheaper to use Seishun 18-kippu (青春18きっぷ). No age is concerned. It is a special ticket (tokutoku kippu) with a limited sales and use period ( during summer, winter, and spring vacation time ) that allows five one-day unlimited rides for 12,050 yen (same price for adults and children) on regular and rapid trains of all passenger railroad companies (JR lines). You can even travel between Tokyo and Osaka for 2410 yen.

11:40 The newer trains (Series 313) have restrooms.
11:59 The Oigawa Railway, which runs along the Oigawa River, has an SL modeled after "Thomas & Friends". (As of November 28, 2022, the service is suspended due to flood damage caused by a typhoon, and is scheduled to resume on December 16.)
    12:47 You don't specifically mention Hamamatsu station...🥲
15:07 The reason for the cross-seat trains from Toyohashi Station is because JR and Meitetsu are in competition from Toyohashi to Gifu. (Trains that go directly from Hamamatsu to Nagoya are cross-seat. Bad luck.)

    • @starrwulfe

The commuters are respectful to each other and you’d never see on Tik Tok arguments or anything on the trains or buses. Staff are super polite and helpful, try that on Ny metro or London Tube lol

Yay Mt. Fuji! She hides too often in your videos. Nice to see she came out to play.😂 I love your videos for all the travel experiences. The trains, ferries, hotels, restaurants, and sightseeing. It’s a whole experience. Here in western Canada out train options are very limited. Only local city commutes and one cross country line. People just tend to prefer driving or flying because the distances are so vast and open. Some bullet trains are in the works for between cities but who knows when that will happen. Fingers crossed 🤞

Soba is great. Healthy, that's why people in many European countries eat buckwheat porridge.

For me, this local train is quite good. It is quite comfortable with affordable prices and comfort. It is quite good, it reflects the Japanese culture which is not about wealth but in terms of calmness and comfort, proof that they are comfortable living their daily life like in Japanese animation. and besides the cost of living, the price of goods in Japan is really expensive compared to America, the price is quite cheap, but in Malaysia the price is the same as in Japan, for example, a manga book costs 20 ringgit more there, so it's like that, and it's suitable for those who live in Japan for a long time haha but if you you can just get on the comfortable shinkansen, it's up to you as long as you arrive safely

but in malaysia we still have old trains which are still used even though not many people use them, oh i hope they can make a new carriage train that is big and wide like japan and the windows must be wide so that you can enjoy the beautiful scenery outside, it's up to you on the ability of a country, not all countries are rich, some are poor, some are in debt
