That doesn't surprise me, unfortunately there are a lot of people who would think that Spain is in South America.
We have similar issues in Australia and one of the most annoying things is that people think that Greeks and Italians are similar, Italians originate from Central Europe and come from the same gene pool as the French, Swiss, Austrians etc. and Greeks originate from Asia Minor so there's clearly no connection what so ever.

VINCENT RATHBONE thats not really true, italians have a correlation with greek people bc many greek colonies in the past were in italy such as Siracusa, Cuma, Pompei and so on. this also explains why many italian words originated from greek.

I've always thought that the american and canadian educational system is great in the best universities, but it's terrible on the cultural side before college.
When americans come to Europe they are usually surprise that europeans study during the afternoon and that they are stressed and busy.
I have also the feeling that japanese people are much more educated.
When I meet an educated american it's because he studied in a good college or he is a self-taught person.

Another reason is that so much great literature was originally written in Italian, like Dante and Boccaccio.
The full name for a piano is "pianoforte," meaning "soft and loud," since you can play notes at varying loudness.
"Is France in Spain?" Sounds like a question an American would ask! (Yeah, I'm showing my prejudice...)

I just started learning Italian with Duolingo because I wanted to learn another Romance language after Brazilian Portuguese, and I wasn't all that interested in French or Spanish so I picked Italian and I must say I'm having a blast learning it.

LENIN ERAZO BALLADARES I could say the same about Portuguese because as I was learning it(still learning it to be honest), I started to indirectly learn Spanish and began to understand some of the stuff my Latino friends write on Facebook whenever they post in Spanish. Though I'm curious what does Ecuadorian Spanish sound like because I'm use to hearing mostly Dominican, Mexican and Puerto Rican Spanish in my neighborhood?

I can't tell how unexplainable my love for this language is. I love the sounds, the plural form and the Italian culture. I'm a Portuguese native speaker but I do Italian on Duolingo (from English to Italian). A beautiful language, and you know how committed to beauty the language is when you learn that they use "bello" also as a reference to "interesting".
"Che cosa fai di bello?" = "Are you doing anything interesting?"

Also, Italy has a strong economy, and the reasons given in the video, such as art and food, make Italian a great language to learn.

      Nycco BG

Some Portuguese speakers think that THEIR language is the "uncorrupted" version of Latin!

    • @Nicods
      @Nicods 7 років тому +1

It's not a matter of thinking, there is very ccurate stdy by Mario Pei and this is the percentage of difference between Romance languages and Latin:
      - Sardinian 8%,
      - Italian 12%,
      - Spanish 20%,
      - Romanian 23.5%,
      - Occitan 25%,
      - Portuguese, 31%,
      - French 44%.
There's more to say about that, above all that Romance languages do not descend (at least not directly) from classic Latin (when they originated that Latin was more like an abstract model used for cultural, administrative, religious and legal purposes, it had not been spoken by normal people from many centuries), but they come from a later vulgar Latin, so they're more similar to each other than simlar to classic Latin (that's why the're called Romance languages and not Latin languages, since that vulgar Latin is often referred to as "romanice loqui", which means "speak in the fashion of the Roman people", in opposition to "latine loqui" which refers to those who used the Latin of Cicero or Julius Caesar, even when Julius Caesar was dead 4, 7 or 10 centuries before and even the people of Rome itself would have find hard to understand it): the Latin we study at school, the same Latin still used by Vatican City and Catholic Church for official documents today, is the high Latin of 20-21 centuries ago at least in its written form, but Western Roman Empire collpsed 5-6 centuries later and spoken Latin had evolved in the meantime (grammar, vocabulary and even pronunciation), even if the model used in administration was still the same; Romance languages come from that popolar Latin of the 5th, 6th century when Rome felt.

In the truth Italian and French share 89% of lexical similarities and Italian and Spanish 82%. I just think that Spanish and Italian accents are more similar. I'll freak out the next time someone will ask me if I'm Spanish... Can't you hear the difference?

I just want to send to step in as a speaker of Lingua Latina and say Italian is much closer than Romanian due to the slavic influences Romanian has. In fact, Spanish is closer to Italian than Romanian. Also, great job with the video I was honestly shocked you didn't have more subscribers so I subscribed! Here is data backed up my claim if you need it by the way:
