This totally reads like a Buddha saying. 🥰

I'm usually a very competitive person. However, since becoming the main person introducing board games to others, I have started to care more about teaching and then enjoying a gaming experience than winning. Once a person has had enough experience, that's when winning becomes the main goal - but games are meant to be fun!

I think getting into solo gaming has helped with this. I play a lot more often and I’m not beating anything but a system (or myself if playing two handed war game). So playing just to enjoy playing has helped me not focus on the win for enjoyment

All great points. I played 11 games at Geekway To The West last month and came in dead-last in 9 of them. Luckily, it didn't keep me from having the time of my life there. I do try to win, but it usually takes me a couple plays of a game to fully grasp the strategies to win. Being that I'm almost always playing new games, that rarely happens.

While I wasn't always this way, the last couple of decades I've learned that the experience matters far more to me than the score.

I love your point about new gamers! It should be about making sure everyone is having a good time than winning. Especially if I'm teaching a game, I feel good if a new player seems like they enjoyed the experience rather than feeling intimidated.

When I play solo I want to win every time. When I play with my wife I don’t care and really just enjoy that she is playing games with me. When I play with my kids at school at my board game club we don’t usually even keep sore unless it’s part of in game play and it doesn’t matter who wins.
