    Love the video, thanks!, I hear that the rental situation is a bit tough, maybe you should look in idealista and try to get a place before you go,that’s what we are doing. We are going on the nlv by the end of September, good luck to you guys, I’m sure you’ll be great!😊

      Thank you so much!! Yes...we are definitely following everything happening over there regarding the rental market! It definitely might be a tough go. We plan on using a relocation agent to help smooth things over and are taking a lot of notes on how other folks are going about it. We definitely have a few videos planned for THAT adventure when it starts!! Thank you so much for the kind words!! Good luck to you guys as well!!!

    We're moving in August 25. Going to Salamanca for the first year. Taking a year of Spanish classes at the university there. After that, probably headed to Asturias. You, being from Seattle, might want to look at the northern coast. Greener, cooler, less dry.... might suit you better.

      That’s exactly what I suggested to my husband!! lol. I’m kind of from everywhere…but he’s only lived in Seattle. So he’s excited to try something new weather wise. 🥰. I lived in Cali for a while, so I could definitely go for some sun!
      Safe travels!!!! It’s all so exciting and nerve wracking!!

    Going to Sevilla next week and staying for one month. I will be studying Flamenco with my teachers and taking a break from my work/life. The hardest thing is leaving my dog for the month as he is 16 years old. He will be home with my husband and is doing well.

      @@thespaindiaries I have been a dancer for 50 years and trained in Flamenco for over 12 years. I am now 67 and fulfilling a lifetime dream to study in Spain. I live in Oregon, btw. I am nervous about the trip and need to just go with the flow-(no pun intended)!!

    Good luck to you and your family . As a Spanish I cannot stress enough the importance of speaking Spanish , otherwise you will never get a job .
    I left Spain years ago because of the lack of job opportunities and the economy situation. However , it’s a nice place to spend holidays .
    Don’t go to Madrid nor Barcelona, those are extremely expensive places . If you wanna have a nice life in my country , choose a small city near the beach .
    P.S. we don’t eat tapas everyday on each meal , tapas are snacks that we eat when go to the pub , that’s it .

      We’ve already started learning Spanish! We started last week! For us, the language is super important…but won’t hold us back from getting jobs. With the digital nomad visa, I am only allowed to work under an overseas company. So we’ll still be working with a US customer base with my LLC. :)
      We can’t wait to try all of the amazing dishes, wines and tapas your stunning country has!!! 🥰❤️🍷

    It's totally doable! You may have mentioned this but...have you been to Spain? If not, I recommend going for a month or two to explore Alicante and other areas before making a decision. It's a big country and every region is different. I lived in Barcelona, Valencia and Madrid and visited smaller cities. Happy to share info and looking forward to your journey!

    • @thespaindiaries
      @thespaindiaries  Місяць тому

      I TOTALLY agree with you!! But unfortunately with our schedules and the tight timeline we are on, we've decided to wing it. (I know...probably not the best way to go about all of this!! lol.).
      Luckily, we have a close friend in Alicante who's lived there for almost a decade...so we can dive into the room temp water when we get there instead of the ice cold. lol.
      We are aiming for Alicante, but for red tape reasons, our friend has suggested we start in one of the smaller towns close by! He suggested Bilbao. We'll definitely be focusing on figuring out where we want to be permanently after we get there, get moved in and get approved. :)
      Thank you SO much for your kind words!!

    Alicante is being choosen by a lot of people coming specially from where I am, I mean Argentina. Prices have risen a lot. I would consider any area surrounding it, like Elche.

    • @thespaindiaries
      @thespaindiaries  Місяць тому +1

      We'll look into that!!! We have a friend in Alicante, so want to stick close to there...but he's also suggested we look at surrounding areas!! I'll definitely take a look at Elche!!

    I have 3 friends working in Spain, all in elder care facilities. They say it's the most available job in the country, because "Spaniards abandon their elderly relatives". (Even if that's not true, there are more elderly than young people to support them).

    • @thespaindiaries
      @thespaindiaries  6 місяців тому

      That's a REALLY great point!!! We'll have to look into that!!! We plan on living over there for the rest of our lives (although a lot can change in the next 40 years, for sure!) so what we do in our old age absolutely needs to be a part of the conversation!!
      I haven't heard about it as prevalent job over there (primarily I've heard teaching English)...but that's definitely a great one to keep in mind!!

    Do you come to contribute to the country or just to take advantage of the facilities compared to your country?

    • @thespaindiaries
      @thespaindiaries  Місяць тому

      Thank you for your question Pedro! Our plan is to put back into the country as much as we can! Being tax paying citizens is our ultimate goal. And, of course, finding a great neighborhood where we can support small businesses, restaurants and grocery stores is a priority. We want to surround ourselves with the Spanish culture, learn the language and really make it home.
      We can’t wait to give back to a community and gives so much to us! ❤️❤️❤️.

    I have very important question to you !? Did you find out how much the Gov. Spain will be put taxes on your financials sources ?! Alot !!!! I'm Polish/American and I live for nearly 3 years in Poland. Wants to move to Spain but when I find out how they tax you and everything you own !!! it means IRA, US market portfolio with all you shares, if you retired like me you have to tell them how much SSA, Union Pension and your savings account including your money from the sell of your house........I'm trying to find out what the taxes will be as a EU member but the part of the US Citizenship is worries me ?!
    I've been watching alot of videos for last 10 years and no-one mentions about aggressive taxation of Spain ?! Is it worth it to move the ?! not sure ?!

    • @thespaindiaries
      @thespaindiaries  Місяць тому

      Hi there!! I've done a LOT of a digging into the taxes, for sure!!
      For us, we'll be taxed by both the U.S. gov and the Spanish gov. BUT, it's not a double taxation. Spain's taxes are higher, so they will take out the balance of their taxes based on the amount of taxes the US has taken out. Because Spanish taxes are higher...that DOES mean paying more taxes than we would have in the U.S.
      But for us, it still comes out way cheaper. We are currently paying $2,300 for rent in the Seattle area...and that doesn't include any other living bills, groceries, car, insurance, etc. Our living expenses here are between $4k - $5K depending on the month and what we have going on.
      Living expenses, from all of the research I've done so far, will be between $2k - $3K in Spain. So by the time the taxes are due, we will still be saving overall.
      I hope that helps!! Good luck with your adventures!!

      Hi Cathy!! I definitely agree!! I did Duolingo for about 4 months...and I think it has it's pros and cons!! Pro...it definitely teaches the basics and gets you in the habit of learning a language every single day (which is definitely the biggest hurdle).
      Cons..I don't think it teaches GREAT Spain spanish...and it won't get you past the basics.
      We are going to start working with a tutor from iTalki!! We'll work with a live tutor who lives in Spain and we can schedule twice a week. In betwee, I'll use the ReWord app everyday. :D
