I've never been to Grantham or Lincolnshire but thanks to your videos I have become invested in this project. I hope to go there one day and see it all back in water. A momument not just to the history of those who first built the canal but also to those volunteers who are restoring it and preserving that history
@@db8444 that’s always my hope with these videos, to shed light on the amazing work done over the last few hundred years to build, maintain and restore these things.
I`ve often walked along the canal from Grantham onwards and I can testify that it`s just as peaceful and beautiful as it looks (although the swans can get a bit stroppy when they`ve got sygnets !)
Well done again. The local authority for Granthm is to be praised for creating a linear public space alongside the canal within the built up area. Marvellous recreational area for adjacent householders. Let's hope that H & S do not regard the canal as a hazard and fence it off to exclude careless children and others.
It’s always good when all parties work together to produce something. One thing I see all over the country is issues with councils. Especially when it goes through multiple different ones and one is for the other against. We need more joined up thinking in this country
@@PaulGreenVlog .Yes but all the volunteer effort required authorities’ approval and active support of adjacent community . Navigable depth is not entirely hazard free.
Hello Sir , Their is a very nice skew bridge in blue brick on the Llangollen canal near Grindley Brook , Its an old railway branch line and in good nick too !
I used to live in Melton and one of my mates lived in Woolsthorpe so I know the area quite well, nice to see it coming back. Melton and Oakham canal is trying to do some work in Melton Mowbray itself they have canoes which can be hired and a canal boat for trips the group is called MOWS for which I am a member.
Superb as always. May I just add my habitutal plug for hedgelaying to feature, wherever appropriate. It looks *SO* much better than tatty strimmed shrubs, is a stronger, better boundary by *FAR* and provides incomparable wildlife habitat.
With the change in government and budget changes as well have there been any effects on the current canal and also the future development of the canal network and projects?
Lots of canals are getting reinstated the one problem is going slower then the boats. to much counchil people that do not understand brings in money. They only turn up when it opens thinking they did it numpties.
Yes our former MP was famous for appearing in photos for things she did absolutely nothing for. There was a joke every time a camera came out that she would turn up
I believe the whole route is, if you download the waterway routes map it shows you, you’ll find the Grantham on the list here www.waterwayroutes.co.uk/maps-free-for-restoration-projects/
Newton's actual apple tree? Let's be generous and say it is from a cutting - generational to the Nᵗʰ degree (N for Newton of course). And as they say - if you can't beat 'em, then Grantham......... I'll get my coat.

@@drend182 urgh swans 😂 they are like the cows of the waterways, they terrify me lol
Have you ever heard the young swans competing for food thrown in? They whistle at each other. Wot I calls their Cygnet your Tune..............🤣

Great canal through some outstanding countryside. Thanks for the update.
@@malcolmrichardson3881 it’s lovely there, it’ll be better when the full route has water!

The last cal authorities have spent very little! Restoration is all the work of the canal trust

Truly a canal renaissance
Let’s hope the golden times are coming
Excellent video as usual did not notice the tech problems
If the camera was a bit more stable it would be a good one, I only use it for overlay stuff now where I have it strapped to a post.

It’s a canal I’ve never explored, I’ve never even really researched it. I should really as I could get some pork pies at the same time

Yea! Maps! Great video.
Edit: excellent news that the level of the A1 is high enough to pass under it.

Looking good! Lots of water now. When does the duck season open for the toffs? (Or swan season for the Regals?) 🤔😉😊

fun fact, just after where canal goes under the current a1, there is swing bridge road, 10 points for anyone who guess the origin for the name ;)
@@maciej9280 I never noticed that name!
@CourtAboveTheCut i think where the roundabout is now was the original bridge location.
is the full towpath accessible to nottingham? I fancy a cycle.

@@RedRouge-j4j I think the original blew down but some survived and has grown back since then, it’s not a graft/cutting though
