  • Humans have always been creative hustlers-problem solvers who seek to live beyond the limits suggested by society. Yet too many of us silence our creativity and let our hustle calcify as we settle for roles assigned to us. No matter where we are in our lives and careers, we can all learn to make our work more meaningful. Moderated by Frederick Alexander, ’05, Sam Seidel and Olatunde Sobomehin, ’03, share approaches they’ve learned from talking with masters of creative hustle and tools and tactics to make work that matters to them and to the world.
    ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
    Sam Seidel, is the K12 Lab Director of Strategy + Research at the Stanford d.school. He is the co-author of Creative Hustle: Blaze Your Own Path and Make Work That Matters. His previous books include Hip Hop Genius and Hip Hop Genius 2.0. He speaks internationally about design, race, culture, and education. He has built and directed programs for young people affected by incarceration, and he has led design strategy projects for organizations throughout the country. He is always learning.
    Olatunde Sobomehin, '03, is the CEO and co-founder of StreetCode Academy, a Silicon Valley-based nonprofit that offers free tech classes to communities of color. He is the co-author of Creative Hustle: Blaze Your Own Path and Make Work That Matters. He is a proud Stanford alum, where he majored in Urban Studies, led a public speaking class in the Engineering department, and played on the top 25 Men's Basketball Team. He and his wife remain in the Bay Area with their four children.
    ABOUT THE ALUMNI MODERATOR
    Frederick Alexander, ’05, is the Chief Digital Officer at StreetCode Academy. He is the former director of External Relations for Stanford Men’s Basketball, where he oversaw marketing and community service initiatives. Keeping close ties with his community, Frederick has partnered with multiple Boys and Girls Club chapters in East Palo Alto, taking on many roles to help uplift students.

    I absolutely relate to the experience described in the opening minutes of this video. There was something immensely powerful about this student community during my time at Stanford. Choosing the people and the place changed the trajectory of my life.
