I was friend zoned many years ago by someone that I was absolutely in love with after he ended our relationship. Afterwards, this man, the same man who didn't want me decided that he wanted to remain in my life. He turned into being one of the best friends I ever had in my entire life to this very day. Later he wanted to revive the relationship, but I no longer had romantic feelings for him. He has been my BEST FRIEND for 15 years... and counting.
I’ve had similar experiences. As a woman in my mid forties I wouldn’t waste any more time being guy’s best friends. After all these experiences, seeing guys I liked putting me on the shelf and marrying other women, I’ve eliminated all of them as simply associates. I no longer do this friendship business anymore with them.
I should do the same. If I get friendzoned by another guy, he will get ghosted. He might never see hear from me again unless he realizes he has feelings for me. I’m sick of being friendzoned.

Guys don't always mean it. I think if some guys put you in friendzone, the girl is just not showing him enough interest so friendzone is his way of just giving up
Most women tend to friend zone nice guys. And use them to fulfill their emotional needs. To not feel so lonely being single, until they get with the person who they actually want to be with. And then it turns out that the person who they actually want to be with is no good. There's no problem being friends before getting in a relationship with someone. But it's important to be clear with your intentions and not use the person. The same goes for men not just for women. Men who are only interested in a one night stand, and then lose interest.

Nice! Yeah, we are definitely friends, this particular guy and me. He does return my messages pretty quickly. He will sometimes keep a conversation going for a bit. He gets pretty enthusiastic when I pop up in his stream and we will hangout playing video games together and chatting over discord. I sent him a birthday present a few days ago (which means he gave me his address) and he was so stoked over what I got him. It was a Dude Buddha from the Big Lebowski. Hand made and everything. It was well worth the reaction to the gift. Unfortunately, we live far away from each other, but I hope when the Covid thing lets up, I can fly out to visit him. We have mentioned it a few times. He says I am always invited to come out there. He is just a great guy to know. Very intelligent and super kick ass personality. I don’t keep all my focus on him, but I am also not really looking either. This guy just kinda dropped into my life a year and a half ago and we have been cool ever since. So, regardless... if it’s meant to be, it will be. I’m just glad to know him.
The thing is I want to continue to be his friend because he truly cares about me as a friend but at the same time I dread the moment he meets other girls and of course since he isn't attracted to me right now he will be attracted to others, but maybe if I change my lifestyle a bit and he sees that, maybe I have a shot at him changing his mind about me, but it still is very painful right now. He acts like nothing happened, like my romantic feelings are non-existent and we're just two good friends and that's it, but I will always want more from him and I don't know, maybe one day he will want more from me. All his previous text messages display his secret feeling. I really believe he is attracted to me although he denies it. He beggs me to meet him where there will be a group of our friends. The sad thing is that I fell in love with him and suffered a great deal and I don't want to suffer again by keeping that kontact. Distance and his workaholic life of owning his own business has made our timing a possible issue, but I just wasn't sure if it was an excuse... But he continues to make me a priority and your words have given me comfort because I do also feel that we needed to know each other more as friends than we did... I'm glad there's a good chance we're still moving forward.
sjulita This just happened to me literally and then I read one of his old post that he was going through some serious stuff that I had no idea. So I had to swallow my pride and extend him some compassion because you just don’t know if someone is going through something. I didn’t expect a response from him but he literally responded right away and we ended up talking all night. He told me he appreciates me just wish I didn’t get the wrong end of the stick. And now we are where we left off. So let’s see how this goes. It’s a long distance thing though.

I dealt with this in reverse where I friend zoned a really great guy because I found out too soon that he liked me and put my guard up from the beginning while getting to know him cause i only saw him as a friend at first- there were parts of who he used to be that would never have meshed with me and I wanted to see if the changed him is who he truly is now. Turns out, it's still somewhat of a mix. Even though most of his actions have changed, some thought processes don't line up, and he wanted to grow together but I felt like we were in 2 different places and just like parts of me weren't understood, even though he wanted to understand. The communication just never fully got there and I wasn't able to fully express myself and vice versa so I realized this maybe wasn't it or wasn't the right time-or maybe It truly was my fear in general. I've never had a guy who shares my values be interested in me and worthy of meeting the family and taking home to them.
As a guy if I put you in the friendzone then there is no chance we will be more than friends. Also I never put women I am interested in the friendzone so if you are friendzoned I was never interested in the first place. Also I do not play around with girls if you are in the friendzone I am not putting you there because I want to use you etc. I genuinely view you as a friend I disagree with the "men and women cannot be friends." But, that's just me everyone is different.

I love your advice and channel-but this time I have to disagree with you. I believe you and your wife are an exception. Not all guys that genuinely friend zone you (nice ones) are even conscious of the fact that they're saying to the wanna be girl "I like you enough to keep you on the bench forever-but you'll never be girlfriend material." I personally wouldn't do this to myself-I am going thru it now and am taking a different approach. I'm putting myself out there to see if there's someone who will make me a priority. Someone quite unexpected showed up ☺️

Over the months, I have now responded to him if we bump into each other, as I no longer feel as angry toward him. He’a always friendly and has flirted. Recently he offered and gave me a ride home. We chatted and he commented on how we’ve always got on. He then said I could come by and that we could be friends. I’m kinda over him, but also know there’s a spark. Thanks for your response Ryan and links, which I have viewed. My ex was married 15 yrs, divorced 2 yrs prior to meeting me. I didn’t realise at the time, he left his wife for the woman he dated before me - making me his rebound! I believe he lost out financially from the divorce and seems to be more stable. He hasn’t defined ‘friends’, but I know I need trust to be any kind of friendship with anyone. I acknowledge I still have feelings for him. We both appear jealous if the other receives attention from the opposite sex. This frustrates me, as I continue to be open yo dating. I’m very outgoing and sociable, quite attractive and do well with male attention. As we move in the same social circles, I feel I need clarity. Platonic friendship isn’t going to work. If there’s romantic interest I would have to seriously consider this and he’d have to start from scratch as if we were strangers. I could be ‘friendly’ towards him, but never his friend! I’ve asked to meet up, which he seems ok with. I don’t believe you covered this scenario; friends with an ex, so thought this would be useful. I asked him if he wanted to study together and he said yeah, but see if others want to as well. Then the last text he sent me was thanks mate. Yet he replies instantly, and for months he's been acting like he likes me. We don't really talk outside of college, but we see each other 4 days a week, so this was like me trying to see if he wanted to hang out outside of college as well
There is actually a third option as to why a guy might friend zone you and this one happened to me on a couple occasions. He's gay and not out yet lol. But I guess as we get older that's less likely. My best friend of 15 years did that and he's HORRIBLE about texting cause he's old school and prefers talking on the phone. But if I call he will pick up or contact in a timely manner. He is testing you and your boundaries. By letting him cuddle you actually come across as you do that with all guy friends. By setting boundaries and maintaining it you will make him either back off and be as a friend or step up as a man.

Mine is quite a conundrum. I've been friends with a guy for a few months, we hit it off straight away, clicked from the get go. He told me he isn't looking for a woman because his fiance died 5 years ago. So as time goes on I'm beginning to really care for him, and he is me too, asks if I've eaten, do I need anything. My heaters broke and he wanted to pay for them to be fixed I said no I can handle it. He says he cares about me etc, he used to send me rock music and metal music which is what we connected over, but now he sends me love songs, out of the blue. A few days ago I told him I care about him and he didnt reply. Hes not messaged me since, granted it's only been 2 days, the longest we havent spoken for is 4 days. I don't want to be pushy I know hes grieving still and my heart is actually broken for him. Am I just confusing my feelings of empathy for feelings of more ? Help lol anyone...someone ! Thank you x Will just add, I know what a grieving heart feels like, I lost my brother 5 years ago in an accident, he drowned, was just 22 years old. My heart is shattered still to this day so I know some of what hes feeling, and I feel bad for telling him I care because maybe that's put pressure on him. I can’t say that I’ve dated someone who’s grieving. But maybe having a perspective free of that experience might help. It’s ok to have empathy, but an emotionally unavailable person is still an unavailable person. Now, maybe his feelings are starting to change. And if you’re hoping they will, give him the green light. Let him do things for you. Let him be there for you. But don’t give him more leeway about how he treats the relationship with you anymore than you would another guy. If he’s not ready to give you what you want and isn’t making any true progress in that direction, keep dating other men. Just like you would if he was just some guy who didn’t grieve a partner. Because the reality of him not being with you is still the reality of him not being with you. You can have empathy while still not putting everything he needs ahead of what you need. It’s ok to be kind but not put your life on hold for someone who didn’t ask you to. It’s ok to keep looking for someone who does want the things you want right now. In fact, he might even value you more for being able to move on from him. It might give him some clarity that he won’t have, if he can take you for granted and know you’re always there. That’s my 2 cents. PS where I can totally relate is letting too much empathy become an excuse for why a relationship wasn’t what I hoped it would be. Empathy is wonderful, but don’t let that decide that you’re okay with less than what really makes you happy.
My situation is a little different in the sense that my behaviour hasn’t been good and i have bombarded him with texts. He’s gone right off me because of it and asked me just to be friends. I don’t want to go about texting and testing him because we need to take things dead slow. I want to get back to how we were before when we’re in love but as his feelings have gone, I have to tread carefully. We met online and haven’t even met yet so I’m hoping that it will all change when he meets me.

Come to find out though, he got into a relationship a couple months ago; they broke up in less than like two months, but it gave me the strong confirmation that I’ve been friendzoned and I felt so hurt afterwards. Hey Ashley! Sorry to hear about this. How long were you dating this guy? My gut is telling me that he could potentially have been rebounding and wasn't totally over his ex. I made a video about this and discuss the warning signs, so definitely check that one out if you get a chance. Did you see any of these warning signs with this guy? There's not too much you can do while he's figuring out what he wants. It's possible he'll realize he made a mistake and come back to you, but you definitely don't want to be waiting around for him. Don't let him have his cake and eat it too, ya know? If he's on the fence with things, that's fine, but tell him he can't have it both ways and if you meet someone else, it's going to be his loss (if he tells you he can't decide between you too, for example).

I’ve had similar experiences. As a woman in my mid forties I wouldn’t waste any more time being guy’s best friends. After all these experiences, seeing guys I liked putting me on the shelf and marrying other women, I’ve eliminated all of them as simply associates. I no longer do this friendship business anymore with them.

Most women tend to friend zone nice guys. And use them to fulfill their emotional needs. To not feel so lonely being single, until they get with the person who they actually want to be with. And then it turns out that the person who they actually want to be with is no good.
There's no problem being friends before getting in a relationship with someone. But it's important to be clear with your intentions and not use the person. The same goes for men not just for women. Men who are only interested in a one night stand, and then lose interest.

Nice! Yeah, we are definitely friends, this particular guy and me. He does return my messages pretty quickly. He will sometimes keep a conversation going for a bit. He gets pretty enthusiastic when I pop up in his stream and we will hangout playing video games together and chatting over discord. I sent him a birthday present a few days ago (which means he gave me his address) and he was so stoked over what I got him. It was a Dude Buddha from the Big Lebowski. Hand made and everything. It was well worth the reaction to the gift. Unfortunately, we live far away from each other, but I hope when the Covid thing lets up, I can fly out to visit him. We have mentioned it a few times. He says I am always invited to come out there. He is just a great guy to know. Very intelligent and super kick ass personality. I don’t keep all my focus on him, but I am also not really looking either. This guy just kinda dropped into my life a year and a half ago and we have been cool ever since. So, regardless... if it’s meant to be, it will be. I’m just glad to know him.

I dealt with this in reverse where I friend zoned a really great guy because I found out too soon that he liked me and put my guard up from the beginning while getting to know him cause i only saw him as a friend at first- there were parts of who he used to be that would never have meshed with me and I wanted to see if the changed him is who he truly is now. Turns out, it's still somewhat of a mix. Even though most of his actions have changed, some thought processes don't line up, and he wanted to grow together but I felt like we were in 2 different places and just like parts of me weren't understood, even though he wanted to understand. The communication just never fully got there and I wasn't able to fully express myself and vice versa so I realized this maybe wasn't it or wasn't the right time-or maybe It truly was my fear in general. I've never had a guy who shares my values be interested in me and worthy of meeting the family and taking home to them.
As a guy if I put you in the friendzone then there is no chance we will be more than friends.
Also I never put women I am interested in the friendzone so if you are friendzoned I was never interested in the first place. I believe he lost out financially from the divorce and seems to be more stable. He hasn’t defined ‘friends’, but I know I need trust to be any kind of friendship with anyone. I acknowledge I still have feelings for him. We both appear jealous if the other receives attention from the opposite sex. This frustrates me, as I continue to be open yo dating. I’m very outgoing and sociable, quite attractive and do well with male attention. As we move in the same social circles, I feel I need clarity. Platonic friendship isn’t going to work. If there’s romantic interest I would have to seriously consider this and he’d have to start from scratch as if we were strangers. I could be ‘friendly’ towards him, but never his friend! There is actually a third option as to why a guy might friend zone you and this one happened to me on a couple occasions. He's gay and not out yet lol. But I guess as we get older that's less likely. My best friend of 15 years did that and he's HORRIBLE about texting cause he's old school and prefers talking on the phone. But if I call he will pick up or contact in a timely manner. Mine is quite a conundrum. I've been friends with a guy for a few months, we hit it off straight away, clicked from the get go. Will just add, I know what a grieving heart feels like, I lost my brother 5 years ago in an accident, he drowned, was just 22 years old. My heart is shattered still to this day so I know some of what hes feeling, and I feel bad for telling him I care because maybe that's put pressure on him. It's hard because, he still loves his fiance. Ah my head and heart are in a pickle. Can anyone relate ?
I can’t say that I’ve dated someone who’s grieving. But maybe having a perspective free of that experience might help. It’s ok to have empathy, but an emotionally unavailable person is still an unavailable person. Now, maybe his feelings are starting to change. And if you’re hoping they will, give him the green light. Let him do things for you. Let him be there for you. But don’t give him more leeway about how he treats the relationship with you anymore than you would another guy. If he’s not ready to give you what you want and isn’t making any true progress in that direction, keep dating other men. Just like you would if he was just some guy who didn’t grieve a partner. Because the reality of him not being with you is still the reality of him not being with you. You can have empathy while still not putting everything he needs ahead of what you need. It’s ok to be kind but not put your life on hold for someone who didn’t ask you to. It’s ok to keep looking for someone who does want the things you want right now. In fact, he might even value you more for being able to move on from him. It might give him some clarity that he won’t have, if he can take you for granted and know you’re always there. That’s my 2 cents.
PS where I can totally relate is letting too much empathy become an excuse for why a relationship wasn’t what I hoped it would be. Empathy is wonderful, but don’t let that decide that you’re okay with less than what really makes you happy.
My situation is a little different in the sense that my behaviour hasn’t been good and i have bombarded him with texts. He’s gone right off me because of it and asked me just to be friends. I don’t want to go about texting and testing him because we need to take things dead slow. I want to get back to how we were before when we’re in love but as his feelings have gone, I have to tread carefully. We met online and haven’t even met yet so I’m hoping that it will all change when he meets me.

This guy and I have practically been best friends for two years now. He talks to me almost everyday and unlike my other guy friends he does really sweet, personal stuff with me so I developed feelings for him after a few months. If he was your boyfriend and now wants to downgrade you, walk away. It’s impossible to be just friends if you still care for him in that way... You will just end up getting hurt. I say walk away. If he reaches out, pull back on your responses. Don’t be so easily accessible to him, be busy, go out with another guy friend and post a picture of you out with him on your social media. Show the guy what “just friends” is all about and don’t make him a priority anymore. Usually, if a boyfriend wants to be just friends, it’s a nice way for him to let you down easily. You can also let him know that just friends doesn’t work for you, but be ready to walk away for good after that conversation. Hey Ashley! Sorry to hear about this. How long were you dating this guy? My gut is telling me that he could potentially have been rebounding and wasn't totally over his ex. I made a video about this and discuss the warning signs, so definitely check that one out if you get a chance. Did you see any of these warning signs with this guy? There's not too much you can do while he's figuring out what he wants. It's possible he'll realize he made a mistake and come back to you, but you definitely don't want to be waiting around for him. Don't let him have his cake and eat it too, ya know? If he's on the fence with things, that's fine, but tell him he can't have it both ways and if you meet someone else, it's going to be his loss (if he tells you he can't decide between you too, for example).
