  • It has been long overdue. My dream for starting a coffee shop goes back many years. Hopefully, 2022 is the year I can make that dream become a reality. Like all ventures though there is risk involved. I know things can change quickly and not go as planned but I am pretty confident that this will be something we can pull off in 2022. I hope the series I am about to document is beneficial to you and I hope Cedar Ota is a place we can all gather one day and meet, drink coffee, and discuss the shenanigans we are about to embark upon! Thank you guys for coming along on this journey!

      Hey man sorry for the late reply, when life hits it hits hard. Everything comes to a standstill. We just need to move forward. We are picking back up on the buildout and hope to be done by mid-September.
      We live in Benson Az but are starting it in Tucson and some weekends in Tombstone Az.
      I need to catch up on some videos and podcasts. I appreciate the content.

    Love your channel, been following for a bit! Love to see you constantly enhancing your content and growth. I do have one question for ya; how do you recommend sourcing greens for a smaller roaster? I know what the "optimal and fairest" ways to do it, but that generally requires a bit of capital to make it work. Currently, I use the obvious third parties that some may be familiar with, one being Sweet Maria's. This gets a little pricey when I only sell to a local café and online. Keep up the great work, Rob!

      @@RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee initially before we decided to launch Resurgence Coffee I had no intentions on roasting. I was very unfamiliar with the process. Roasters did not want to sell you coffee without their name on it, rightfully so. We been roasting and selling since July, I have yet to construct a business plan. I guess my question is, would you have any insight to what’s important for that plan and what isn’t?

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  2 роки тому +1

      The business plan will depend on what you are trying to get. If you are looking to attract an investor, get a bank loan, or funding that is the only reason I would suggest creating a business plan. There should be a Small Business Develop Center rep in your area at a local college that can help. They should have worked with the banks and regulations that are in your area. What is you plan for the business loan?

    I’m curious how you decide what beans to buy and invest the time/energy into profiling. Coffee seems to be like beer the ingredients are all pretty much the same, it’s your brand and your version of the drink people buy.

    I shouldn't ask, but do you still like your Bideli? You are talking about different roasters for your future. My thought was that you could buy two for the price of one. If one goes down you have another to work with. Also if you are successful like I know you will be, you have another to expand to your next location. This was my thought for myself but maybe I should consider staying away from Bideli
    Now? 🤔

    • @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee
      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  2 роки тому

      I do like the Bideli but I wouldn’t start a business like I am wanting with it. I want some more controls and I really want a company based on the US. That way if I need parts I know I can get them relatively quickly if needed. I think the Bideli was a great machine to cut my teeth on and learn. I may cover that in a future video! I am not getting rid of it. Worst case scenario I can use it in an emergency. But I think I want to upgrade and get more data and controls.

    I live in a Small town in Arkansas, about 3000 people there is quit a bit of traffic because we're nestled in between a few larger cities. I have dreamt of starting a Coffee Shop and small Roastery for 2 years now (there is not one in town) but I have no experience in the industry and I work 40, 50, 60 hours a week. I am ready to work for myself since I am working so many hours anyway. Any advice?

      @RobPirieCedarOtaCoffee  2 роки тому

      Dude that is exactly my situation, kind of. My town is a bit bigger but I and a project manager for a pump repair company full time. I have never worked in a coffee shop or a food establishment. I do want to just do my own thing. So, my advice would be to just start walking the path. Read about it, listen to podcast about it, make a point to reach out and talk to people around you in the industry and just slowly make it happen. Realize it is beyond a marathon and the sooner you start walking to the goal line the sooner it will become a reality. For me it has been making a list of things I need to learn, complete figure out to get to the next milestone. Over the past few years I finally feel I have somewhat of an idea what the path looks like. Problem is that process is going to be different for everyone. That’s what makes it so hard.
