it was great hustle by barkov but he slid into the sens skater on purpose because he didn't have his broken stick. he caused his own injury and could have caused a serious injury to his opponent. hockey players know that it is as dangerous as it gets racing toward the net and end boards like that. that is why they changed the icing rules. to submarine a guy on top of that is careless and lacking sportsmanship. grab the guy but never take his skates out from under him in such a situation.

Lack of sponsorship? It’s a tight game on the line and there is no whistle. You play the game whistle to whistle. If someone gets injured from holding on to me that’s their fault. Hockey players should have sportsmanship when a player is injured. The difference is the whistle didn’t blew so it’s fair game, anyone can reclaim the puck if they want it more and the sens did by putting in the net. I am glad that they made the hybrid icing but with your take on playing nice during the play. That doesn’t work with any player if they want a job in the NHL. This is why hockey is unforgiving. It’s unfair that players get injured during plays that they made but that’s why I love this sport. They push so hard to make a difference in a game and they don’t care about the consequences of their decisions. Especially when it’s Barkov. Hopefully he gets a full recovery but I give him respect and because he cared enough to get back on defense.

@@Stzu-s2bt55 your take is just pure nonsense. there are some plays in hockey that are just plain careless, selfish, and dangerous. however, you are absolutely right that barkov didn't " care about the consequences of their ( his ) decisions. " that is my point. barkov's effort to get back and prevent a pretty likely ENG is commendable and it is what a leader does, but submarining a guy going full speed toward the net and end boards is worse than all but a couple of plays in all of hockey. in my playing days the nets were anchored into the ice with steel pegs that went into pre drilled holes in the ice. this made the net immovable and too many serious injuries were sustained by players getting dumped while skating full speed toward the net. that makes one rule change and one change to the rink itself to avoid these injuries. it is more likely to end a career or cause permanent disability than just about anything a player can do. further, there are certain things that are unwritten taboos between players and that is one of them. submarining a player is a huge no no because you take away his control of his safety and body. if barkov had gotten up OK and the sens skater had been injured, i guarantee you barkov would still be running for his life right now.

You're probably not wrong in thinking that, but it's either Barkov tries & does what he did & maybe it leads to something, or he just lets Stutzle take a free shot without attempting anything. He was just in a lose-lose situation & did the best he could & unfortunately, incidental contact led to an injury
