    Thank you for your response. The fill is 9.5 gal. I reviewed your video concerning the "water softner clogged with salt". Assuming that my brine tank was clogged, I followed your instructions in the video. I used a broom pole and loosened the salt and removed all the salt down to the grid plate screen. It appeared there was clogging. I used some hot water and regenerated the system twice. There was about three to four inches of water above the grid plate after the regeneration. I never removed the grid plate, your video did not mention it and I didnt know if I should do anything with it. I really appreciate your videos and especially your concerns about my problems.

      Our water softeners do not use the grid plate. If you have one I would remove and clean it before reassembling and adding salt.

    Thank you Gary, you're a star! My question was regarding Softener System Set Up, Step 8S. We would prefer AUTO, and it was reading gallons. Your adivce to change it back to AUTO, press the down arrow until the gallons reach zero, and voila! AUto. Yep, definitely a star. Now under Installer Settings, Step 2I for Hardness, and Step 3I Days Override, which previously were not available have now returned.👍👍👍

    Hi Gary, (hope you read this, sorry for the long post) thank you very much for this video! Helping me out a lot. I am helping my father get his well straightened out here in south florida. It hasnt worked in a long time, except for pumping water which the pump broke recently. I got what i think is a really good deal on two clack 10x54 tanks, one with a ws1tc (3 button) and the other with a 5 button (back lit screen 5 button). It also came with a brine tank. Dates on the tanks are 11/2020 so not that old, got all for 300USD, which i feel is a fantastic deal (i hope). It appears, and im not sure why, they had the 5 button on the carbon filter with air over media plug, and the 3 button for the softener with the brine line.With this vid i feel comfortable swapping them and reprogramming the 5 button for softening and the 3 button for the carbon filtering.
    Can i still use the air over media "plug connector" on the 3 button since the 5 button will be getting the brine pickup installed, or does that need to be sealed up somehow?

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  4 місяці тому +1

      You can replace the air over media air inlet with a plug which is made for that purpose. Likely the 5 button they were using for an air over media iron filter. Before doing anything at this stage I would have the water tested to find out exactly what you need befoe spending anymore money. We ahve info about water testing here waterestore.com/pages/free-water-test-evaluation-the-water-estore then if you need both the iron filter and water softener I would convert the 3 button to a 5 button and go from there.

    You indicated in this video that a water softener should regenerate at least once every 14 days (Days Override setting). You said this would mitigate the clumping of the resin beads and "fluff up" the media. I have never heard of this before. I am a single person with a 32,000 grain capacity softener. It is set on AUTO Regen so it determines when to regen based on water hardness (23 grains) and softener capacity and gallons used (metered). This has been about every 17 days for me. When I configured the Days Override setting to 14 days my gallons per regen decreased accordingly. Now it will use more water and salt.
    Question: Is it really necessary to configure the Days Override setting to 14 days?

    Hi Gary, thank you again for your super helpful videos. My iron filter is configured for 15min backwash and 45 min air draw. I noticed that water comes out decently clear from the kitchen faucet, but left for a few minutes in a cup it slowly oxidizes (yellow water after maybe 5 minutes, and the smell is super metalic like coins - color and oxidation improves by the end of the day but the smell remains). What would be the max air-draw time I can safely configure to increase the air bubble in the tank, and see if this helps to give water a better chance to oxidize inside the tank and be properly filtered by the media? Thank you as always!!

    Hey Gary, thank you for this video, it's absolutely great! One question though, what does the System Capacity (22:37) value influence? I use German Hardness units and I have this parameter expressed in cubic meters. I have 25kg of resin and got this parameter set by installer to 62m3.
    Also want to ask how to calculate my how many grains is 25kg of resin?

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  Рік тому

      One cubic foot is 32,000 grains. The capcity tells the valve how big the media tank is so the valve knows how often to regenerate the media based on the settings.

    Thnx a lot for very helpful video.
    I have 2 questions to you.
    As far as i know there are at least 2 ways of regeneration of resin, upflow and downflow. I ve heard upflow is better (more effective), is that true? If yes how to change it in WS1CI?

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  Рік тому +1

      Yes, all things being equal upflow is slightly more efficient but typically upflow water softeners are more complex, expensive and finnicky. Clack does not recommend switching the valve over from a downflow to an upflow so I do not recommend it sinceI don't know how.

    Our water here from the beginning I was told was soft water. This is a new water filter(upgrade from a greensand filter) with a different company(New Clack Filter). The water does have Sulfur, Iron and Manganese. The installer has the setting on softening and it looks like all the default settings. The toilet tanks are getting brick colored. Otherwise the water tastes good and feels good and no smell. I notified the installer and he told me it looks like a little bit of iron. He said he would come over this week. Should I ask him why isn't the setting set to filtering instead of softening? I'm about to start programing this thing myself per your videos. Thanks

    I have watched so many of your video tutorials that I have become an expert! 🤣 You directed me to this video when I had a question in one of your other videos and at first, as I started watching, I thought "I've already graduated from the softening course and need a course in filtering". I almost gave up but out of curiosity I kept watching and Bam! Halfway thru you hit the nail on the head on what I needed help on. My Air Over Media filter settings. Thanks! But, again, I kept watching (even as I had all the info need on my AOM) and now wonder if a twin tank softener is what I need due to a hardness reading of the well water at 390. If I can't afford to add a tank is there a setting in my WS1 on the single tank softening tank that can help maintain soft water. We are a 2 person cottage size house. Which setting should I concern myself with to keep the water soft 24/7?
    PS, you did touch on my 4 button system enough to figure out what I needed. Thanks

It was analog with the pins, easy, but that was replaced with a clack valve head. Slowly the water started smelling. I called and they checked the settings but still smells. I have the same unit (Clack WS1 30,000 grain softener) for my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 small kids) which I think it a bit undersized. I also have a Hardness of 31 GPG which doesn't help the situation but there is also an iron filter to deal with the little bit of iron but high sulphide. So for the Softner I am trying to fine tune the setting as they we all default when we moved in. So I set the Hardness so 33, the salt lbs to 10, and the capacity to 24000. Hi Gary. I apologize if you covered this question in your video or in the comments already. I recently had a 48,000 grain softener installed. It looks like the installer adjusted the settings correctly. However, when it gets down to about 200-300 gallons remaining, our water begins to not feel soft until it regenerates again. Like I said, all of the settings appear to bet set correctly. However, the capacity setting is currently set to 48,000 to match the size, but I recall that you recommend setting it to 80% of full capacity. Does that mean I should set the capacity to 39,000 instead? If so, what is the reasoning behind the 80%? Thank you in advance!

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  Рік тому

      Yes, you are correct. There are inefficiencies in the process and since not all 48,000 grains of capacity are used during regeneration (due to the shape of the tank) we use only 80% of the tanks capacity.

    Hi Gary,
    I'm trying to understand how to set up a WS1 CI. Looked online, read the manuals and went through a few of your videos. Special thanks for the resin replacement video, was a breeze after watching it. But i can't find answers to a few questions.
    I can't understand how the valve determines the amount of salt it's taking. My settings are metric but probably not important.
    I can set the amount of salt that the water softener uses for regen. How is that implemented physically? Is it (a) controlled by setting brine tank refill duration with 0.5 gpm flow rate in mind and float valve shutting off the brine during draw once tank is empty? Does the WS1 use the float valve to shut off brine draw? Or (b) actual brine draw minutes with a particular injector in mind? The is no injector size setting, right? My settings now are 60 min brine draw, I assume this is brine draw and slow rinse together. Or not? How is slow rinse implemented then?
    I guess the question is how is the valve ensuring that it takes the right amount of salt? When I set 5 kg of salt for regen but 60 min for brine draw these two settings do clash, I run out of brine much earlier, then air is drawn in, in 60 minutes it will draw out about as much brine as my brine tank could hold if there was no salt.
    Is there a possibility to increase brine contact time, like a pause cycle or something? Read somewhere that boosts efficiency somewhat.
    Sorry for the long read and thanks in advance.

      The higher the salt setting the more water is added to absorb more salt. The float is only used if circumstances occur that could overfill the brine tank. Once the brine has been fully drawn the cycle becomes slow rinse. If you have a 5 button Clack valve with three buttons on the top row and two on the bottom you can set a pause but I do not know why you would. I can't see how this would boost efficiency.

      @@water_estore Hi and thanks for the answer. Regarding pause and efficiency I believe the idea was that prolonging contact time between brine and resin simply allows for more exchange to happen, higher depletion of sodium from introduced brine. Might be nonsense, but does make sense on the surface.
      As for the salt then I understand that the brine tank should hold just enough water after post fill to perform the next regen, right? Is there an air check valve to allow the transition from brine to rinse without sucking in air when brine is all drawn up? Or did I get it wrong again?

      Or is the brine draw metered? The valve is the one you mentioned, 3 and 2 buttons.

      You should be able to clear it by removing the power connection to the circuit board, wait a few minutes before reconnecting and then change the settings.

    Any ideas why my unit does not show the 6th cycle? From 5 (fill) it goes to a salt setting in lbs, dont see any end cycle. Unit appears to be the same one in this video. Thank you.

    when I go to change the filter pack and when I loosen the the nut to access the package and as I loosen the nut more it seems as though the water starts to come out under high pressure so I stopped.

    Hey Gary. Thanks for the tips how to set up the hardness of the CI clack. If I have 469 µg/l iron = 0,47ppm iron
    and hardness 22,77 °dH = 405ppm (water well), that means I will have to set like 408-410 ppm in my clack CI? Is this correct? Right now I have 200ppm set in my clack and the water is very slippery sometimes. Thanks a lot.

    • @water_estore
      @water_estore  3 роки тому

      For every 1 ppm of iron you add 85 ppm to the hardness. So in your case, 405 + 42 = 447 ppm or 26 gpg

      Wow... this video just saved me a lot of frustration trying to decipher the owners manual that came with my "new to me" Fusion F2/F45 (5-button Clack WS1 with meter and 45k tank) softener. The guy I bought it from had no idea what it did, had it hooked up to city water so I had to replace the resin, and was clearly "playing" with the settings. I followed all of your install/startup videos, reloading the tank video, and a bunch of others. I installed the unit myself, then watched this one after I got it up and running. I also did a 20" 5-micron filter upstream of the softener to keep out the wildlife. Into this whole setup for about $1000 CDN and now my well water kicks ass 👍
      Still kinda muddy on calculating my hardness (around 120mg/L so I have it set at 18 I think) and salt usage (I have it set at 12.5) but I'm pretty sure I've got it pretty close. I need to do a proper analysis and get away from these stupid litmus tests, but the girlfriends' super sensitive hair and skin is very happy so that's a pass for now.
      Thanks for all the help and videos Gary, keep em coming 👍
