- Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer pledges to replace the Rwanda policy permanently.
He says Labour will target the gangs "upstream" - with a manifesto pledge to set up a "Border Security Command".
Addressing people smugglers, Sir Keir says: "These shores will become hostile territory for you".

That is already supposed to be in force, its called the Illegal Migration Act, "The Act prevents people who meet the conditions for removal from ever being given legal permission to enter, stay or settle in the UK, or to become a British citizen. Unlike the Home Secretary's duty to remove which is currently from 20 July 2023, this rule applies to anyone who arrived on or after 7 March 2023."

Tough talk, but the reality is asylum seekers need to be able to apply for asylum in France, at Calais, not after they try to make the crossing, and it seems neither of the main parties is willing to do that.
Doesn't work like that, Asylum seekers can choose which country they would like to go to so bypass countries to get to where they want to seek asylum also they might have family in that country also. If they want to go to France they will seek asylum there which they do like in other countries across Europe and the world. The problem is this goverment since Brexit hasn't processed claims and got rid of Asylum programs that are in their country of origin and across parts of Europe which has caused this problem in the first place, if those are sorted and stop gangs exploiting asylum seekers and process claims here as well then won't be a problem. Tories caused this mess and no doubt to cause public uproar and to try win votes with the Rwanda scheme which won't work and is a joke at tax payers expense

Boat crossings weren't an issue 15 years ago. The problem was literally created by the tories when they closed off all safe routes.

NOTHING he says in that speech give me any confidence that our borders will be any more secure. I really want to vote Labour to rid the country of the Tory tyranny but listening to any Labour MP on the subject of immigration, it doesn't seem to me they perceive there's an economic problem with the numbers of illegals entering this country; the impact on housing, the job market, the benefits system, NHS.
They say they will speed up processing applications for asylum. Like others commenting I take this to mean they will be processed & allowed to stay. Where else are they going to send them?

He kept referring to when he was director of public prosecutions, when he was DPP he was responsible for getting asylum seekers who were criminals before setting foot in this country to be allowed to stay in the country, then commit heinous crimes against decent people. Ask Starmer about the Paul Stellato case, which starmer personally intervened in. Stellato nearly killed a family after firebombing their home, who should have still been in prison but for Starmer successfully arguing his case, resulting in Stellato to be freed to commit the horrendous crime.
