    Man... at this point I'm even fine with 30% or 20% tax. Where I currently live (Austria, Europe), I pay almost 50% taxes. Half my noney goes to..., I don't know where. But health care and social security should definitely NOT cost 1500€ every month. If I can reduce this number by 500€ to 1000€ and save 500€ more every month until I retire, that's absolutely worth it to relocate and I deal I would immediately sign up for.

    This is the best informational video on taxes I have seen in a long time!!! I am always looking for tax-friendly countries for retirement in 2031. Unfortunately Portugal canceled their NHR 10% program, basically telling expats not to come. Currently I pay 29.5% marginal tax rate. Looking forward to paying less in retirement abroad.

      I know it is hard to find a good balance. Don't forget to factor in inheritance tax and if from the USA Uncle Sam makes you file no matter where you live. It's a gift!

    Always a good discussion on moving abroad and factors to consider. Maybe you could do an episode or go more into depth on FEIE Foreign Earned Income Exclusion, and FTC Foreign Tax Credit. for US expats working or retired abroad. I think many people don't realize how even paying taxes in the US and another country can be offset sometimes to zero by these two programs depending on income, sources and amounts. Paying a 12-22% US federal on top of another 15% in another country may seem crazy until you consider how FEIE and FTC can work in your favor.

    If I understand correctly, your Social Security benefit won't be taxed by Portugal if you've paid US taxes on your benefit (Treaty) but if you pay zero US tax on your benefit, your benefit will be taxed by Portugal at the standard progressive tax rate. Is this your understanding, as well?

    • @ItllBeFun
      @ItllBeFun  21 годину тому +3

      Good question. You probably would Your Portuguese tax attorney will need to run your numbers for you, it will depend on how the treaty is viewed if the laws change in the USA.

    Not sure if this can be answered simply, but one still has to file taxes in the US, even if living in a low-tax country. So, is there a tax advantage to retiring abroad? (Or just a quality of life / cost of living advantage)

    HAVE YOU MADE A VIDEO OF COUNTRIES REQUIRING THE 'LEAST' AMOUNT OF PENTION/SOC.SEC. MONTHLY INCOME? BECAUSE IF I DON'T QUALIFY BECAUSE OF MY $1000 MONTHLY SOC.SEC. THEN IT DOESN'T MATTER HOW CHEAP THE COUNTRY IS, BECAUSE I 'CAN'T' GET IN (QUALIFY)!

    I had no idea that Social Security was not taxed in Portugal. That is really significant for Expats.

    • @ItllBeFun
      @ItllBeFun  18 годин тому +3

      It is still taxed in the USA. So it's not like you don't have to pay the taxes.
