We see sanitized version, reverse color night vision flashes from a drone’s eye view. We don’t see the anguish, terror and disappointment and ongoing effects of the trauma that really happens in the situations.
I witnessed the 9/11 attacks in NYC way to close up, I remember news reports even then that included the “like a movie“ descriptor and editors had the power to show what they thought their network would allow them to show. That’s primarily why most people say like a movie or a video game I suppose, because to them the rest is a once-removed dramatized vision of life where the editor controls what they see. The media has the power to ring people truly “in” to the situation they were covering. Do you have a real impact on people’s feelings, of course they can warn people there’s graphic content, but that content is shown for a reason so that people realize the true cost of politics etc.

Oh boy. After the testimony today of those officers during the Committee to investigate January 6th, the comments about how the Capitol Police were somehow complicit leaves a pain in the heart. They fought, they were grossly outnumbered, they refused to open fire - knowing that would escalate everything into a blood bath (wow), they were hurt, killed, and some suffered so deeply that they took their own lives, while most have lifelong PTSD, along with other permanent injuries. I bet they get paid like crap, too. Honorable men and women. Thank you!
