  • Saleapaga Village lost over 30 of its residents in the 2009 Samoa tsunami. In the aftermath of the disaster, most of the village relocated into the mountains, completely rebuilding their lives from scratch. Anauli Karima Fai'ai went to see how they've been doing over the last 10 years.

I was there at Saleapaga before, during and afterwards organising assistance from Rotary International and other Australian charities. Received containers with tools, chainsaws and non perishable food as well. We have approached then PM for a new road, water supplies, MNRE desister relief for mosquito nets, lime for toilets and daily supply of fresh water. This we did for two months after tsunami. Who pocket the funds? Bear in mind that all international financial help totaled over 369millions of dollars. Lalomanu, Saleapaga and Poutasi suffered the most damage yet each family affected received 20,000 Tala having total claims for 326 families. Corruption by pulenuu/village mayors had made false claims as we have seen this in person. Feagaima alii Robes

Ever tried to put a water line up the mountain? There was a water connection at the old village. Pumping water up the mountain costs tens of millions all by itself. It aint free. Also the money for those families was to build a basic Fale Samoa house with a water tank each. Not to build a four bedroom fale palagi. That is for them and their families to build.

@@petelosuaniu So in other words, give families the bare minimum so that the Prime minister and his cohorts can keep the rest of the aid money?

@@beazjohnson9865 - just because John Campbell said it doesn't mean it is true. lol ...Do you really think NZ and Australia and World Bank or any other donor would keep giving aid to Samoa if the PM eats all the money? It's all bullshit that Campbell put out there without any proof; just going on things he "researched". In his tsunami story he never once interviewed the NZ Aid people on the ground in Samoa, nor the AusAID nor the International Red Cross etc.
