  • I purchased this part from Oriellyauto.com for $38.71 after experiencing speedometer error, and erratic shifting from my 2001 ford taurus. My transmission is a 17 bolt transmission pan. It took about 15 minutes to complete the job. Make sure you have the correct part. I changed my transmission fluid and filter before I changed this part. The transmission pan filter was a Motorcraft $19.99, part # FT130 for the same vehicle. It is a AX4S transmission. My engine is a 3.0 OHV V6 with 168,000 miles.

Really appreciate the video. It saved me time and money to do this myself rather then taking it to the garage

I got a 2002 with about 115k miles that has an occasional hard shift from 1st to 2nd. Sometimes it not that bad but sometimes it revs real high with a loss of power and a big violent shutter. Sometimes i can floor it right after and it just takes off. Any idea what that could be exactly?

Ok so I have a 2005 Ford Taurus no issues as far as dash cluster. Speed works fine only thing is the check engine light is on but that’s for a multi miss fire. But from 1-2 gear it revs up to nearly 2500 and loses all power and shifts hard. Should this fix?

Your 3 shift solenoids need replacement. You can do it yourself but hard. There is a square box below your battery or on the side of your transmission on the driver's side. It is just like your transmission pan on the bottom, but it has 5 solenoids in it, the hardest part is to get to it. You don't have to take it to a transmission shop. Drain your fluid then pull off the 8mm screws around the pan. The 3 shift solenoids are on the right side. They twist counter clockwise to remove, very simple. You have to use 2 jacks. Be sure to remove your upper motor mount behind the alternator because it will break, if you don't remove it. Also remove the driver's side drive shaft to have more room, to work. You can get the shift solenoids at autozone.com .They are around $23.99 each, part #96953 for the AX4S transmission it is a good idea to change the tcc solenoid also, it will have a "Blue" tab. You don't have to change all 5, just those 4. Check out other videos on youtube, it will take a day to do the job,
      but worth it.

@@a1fixitguy309 That's a terrible diagnosis. It could totally be the output shaft speed sensor, if the ECM doesn't know how fast the output shaft is turning it doesn't know when to shift. Why would three solenoids go out at the same time? If three solenoids truly did go out at the same time that indicates a severe issue with the transmission itself.

I have an, I think 2004, ford taurus and the speedometer needle and for some reason it works when it was hot in the car or when a light shows up on the dash of the car. Would you know the cause of this or how to fix it?
