No point bugging yourself over it when either way it's difficult to know and has no real impact on your human experience. Accept what you cannot change and change what you can.
I've been thinking about it since I was 8 and I have come to the conclusion everyone experiences the same stuff as me, and everyone has come to the realisation as me.
Congratulations! We've been secretly watching you for your entire life. You showed great promise since the beginning, but now you are ready to progress to the next stage of existence! Hope you've enjoyed the simulation so far! We worked to make it as detailed and convincing as possible, but you passed all our tests and were smart enough to see through it all. Don't worry you don't need to do anything yet. We'll contact you in a more official capacity next time you dream. See you soon!
There is only one consciousness and we are all that consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. In other words we are the awareness that is experiencing this movie. There is no individual you. That is an illusion. We are all "I" the one consciousness.
+Flow Thats the same problem like the recognition of colours. You cannot prove that your blue doesnt look like my red etc. We all just know the names of the given colours.
what if reality is just an illusion created by the mind, and when we die its just us realising this and getting control back and are able to create our own reality
nah death is just another illusion we are infinite beings we can not die. when released from the body we are placed into another illusion ascended from this one, and so on, and so on, and so on...you can chose to go backwards and descend too. its infinite and with awareness yeah I agree thats when you are able to create you're own reality, however you're still not in complete control cause in order there is chaos unless with a singularity there will always be a duality.
Really glad that you keep making videos! I'm only 20 but I love to try and think about science in an abstract and complex way whenever I can and your videos definitely help in that regard! Thank you!
This is the most thought provoking video I've ever seen on UA-cam in terms of consciousness. You deserve way more views and I'll help with that--don't ever lose that chair you sit on in the white background as it's iconic.
Can we prove or disprove that? I think we can. Am I aware? Yes I am aware. And everything appears in that awareness. Can I remove this awareness from me? No it is the most fundamental aspect of me because without it nothing would exist. And is this awareness separate from the universe? Both are simultaneous and instantaneous and can not be separated. Therefore I am the universe and the universe is me.
+Omega Point Singularity Of course. By rule this is all hypothetical to me. there is no true way to prove ANY of this. God is a paradox. Any god. As is consciousness itself. Even existing or a lack of existence is a contradiction. I just enjoy how simply you put it.
But if we all have the same consciousness, what does it even matter anyway? If other people are just "you" in other bodies, then it becomes irrelevant for someone to question whether you're the only conscious being or not. Cuz with us being all one consciousness, you're still the only person that exists
I'm gonna try to be a smartass 19 year old here, hoping to learn something from the reactions I get. Since every action has a reaction, whatever you do has impact on any if not everyone around you at that moment. A name for this is "The butterfly effect". This includes that if you set one step to the left, totally random at the middle of the day, it might change the rest of the day drastically. Why? Because you will think multiple times back at that step you did over the day. This can be seen as a distraction as you might have gotten the perfect idea that'd made you rich at that moment at work if you didn't got that distraction. Not only that, but you taking a random step to the left or right can be seen by other people as well meaning they might think about your step and the same thing could happen to them. This kinda means that you as a conscious being have way more impact on someone else's life than you think. on the other hand: Every action has a reaction (newtons 3th law). This means that whatever you do, something will happen because you did it. For example, you set a random step to the left, someone sees it and thinks your strange. You know that that'll be his reaction meaning you can kinda predict what the reaction on your action is going to be. Great examples here are computer games like Call of Duty and League of Legends where you can pretty much predict what the enemies are going to do if you stand in a particular position (baiting). Would this mean that they don't have a choice about their reaction? A great example here is, if I were to shoot someone in the head, killing him instantly. Someone would call the cops. Would that be his own choice? Or would that be such a natural reaction that it's not his choice but just a regular reaction? In the first part of my comment i explained why it's likely that everyone has an own conscious and makes choices and reactions. In my second part I tried to explain the exact opposite. My own personal thoughts on this are with the second part, mainly because I don't think anyone has the power (maybe will power) to do something so completely off-track of what is regular and what is not that it would be 100% unpredictable. Now I understand that some people will say things like "But there are criminals that do mass-murder, like Adolf Hitler and Osama Bin Laden. What about them?" My answer here would be that some action in their youth made this reaction happen. What could've driven them this far? Who knows... Maybe (though not likely) they had this thought I am explaining right now and wanted to see if they could make a difference? (LET ME BE CLEAR HERE, I'M >NOT< DEFENDING EITHER OF THEM, I just want to give an explanation of what MIGHT be the reason that things happened. I don't give my personal opinion on either the persons nor their actions). Now I have 2 question for anyone willing to react to me. 1: can you think of a scenario in which you can perform a reaction that would be unexpected by everyone around you? And if you can, are you capable of performing that reaction? 2: Would this comment have influenced that reaction which may or may not made it a regular reaction? (paradox incoming?) My main goal, again, is to learn from all of the reactions I get as this is a really interesting subject. Let those brains sparkle! :)
For the first part of your comment, I'd say you have a limited number of options and you choose the one you think is best for your goals. Is it your own choice? Maybe. If you know everything and are perfectly intelligent, you will choose the same thing as somebody else who knows everything and is perfectly intelligent, unless your goals are different. If there is free will, it comes from what you want to get out of the choices you make, not from your ability to make choices and the knowledge that you are doing so. For the second part, it's basically what I've said before except you have somehow chosen an option that was not available, or perhaps you were the only one to realize that it was available, or maybe it was only available to you for some reason, or perhaps you saw it as a good option while other people saw it as bad (either for lack of intelligence or differing goals), or last but not least perhaps it had recently become available to everybody and you were just the first to use that option. Whatever the case, that is what true creativity is. Doing something nobody has ever thought of before. Answer to question 1: Without the reaction being completely meaningless, there's nothing I can think of. Once a meaningful reaction has been done for the first time, some people may expect it so you can never do that again and be completely unexpected. Answer to question 2: In most cases, no, I think. Probably. Maaybe.
i think of consciousness a bit different from reactive consciousness. if I too it as reactive mechanism then I don't think there are many possible things where we can see true consciousness as everything is a reaction to another thing so our 'conscious' actions are in reality just a string or reaction universal stimuli which also include social interaction. I thought about most of the things we do in our life and found that most do not require a true consciousness as they are simple reactions to stimuli but as you said in your baiting example that how information plays a huge role so if we know about the reactions of environment and individuals around us it means that we act on that limited information that is why our reactions are radically different thus we can say that one individual is smart because he has skills to gain information about environmental and social reactions better than others. I accept that in most cases this works like this .....but what i was not able to put into reactive consciousness is the we have existential philosophy , though this might arrive from simple stimuli and our reaction for gaining more information but it has propelled us in realm of true consciousness so in the we can safely say. I think therefore, I am!
"Today a young man on acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consiousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is just a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather!" - Bill Hicks I think our universe is conscious, it looks exactly like a group of connected neurons when you take into account dark matter. In that sense, our own consiousness is simply a reflection of the universe's consciousness and consciousness is the natural order of things. Our universe is connected to an infinite number of other universes and is both independent and connected to all realities at all times. Kind of like a giant brain, just each part is it's own conscious entity. I think the point of our own existence is to connect our own consciousness to the consciousness in the multiverse and start our own universe within it. This can only happen if your mind lets you truly see reality. This place is what The Bhudda called "Nirvana". I also think that if we don't join the multiverse we simply come back and have another shot at it. Obviously I have no proof of this.
When I was 4, I was contemplating this very question in the bathtub. Three years later I was having an existential quandary about the illusion of free will.
I'm sure you know, but in case you don't, a leading theory of psychology is that we dont actually have any free will. Every decision we make is essentially predetermined by our genetics and both current and past external factors. It's interesting stuff!
***** I still can't wrap my head around it. I decided to give my two-decade old question another stab and I still couldn't resolve it. It bothered me quite a bit
This is a question that use to destroy my mind. I had been diagnosed with GAD and PTSD, and I really got into philosophy around that time as well. (I've dealt with all these issues now) and this is one particular thing that boggled my mind. Specifically, solipsism... I eventually dealt with my problems (I actually took LSD and thought about all this stuff while on it. And I finally realized how pointless it was to live in fear of anything all the time and I've not had a panic attack since)... and I stopped caring about this. If I was the only conscious being or not. It's not that scary to me anymore. I realized that it doesn't matter even if I was! What would change if I was or wasn't? I've gotten this far in life enjoying the fact that I coexist with these other conscious beings, so why would my mind change if I knew, even 100% for a fact, that these people did not technically exist as other humans, why would it change my outlook? They still treat me the same, they still act the same... Yes, it would feel lonely and it would be weird. But it's not that scary. I used to lucid dream all the time and that's actually where I started thinking about stuff like this. I used to have dreams that felt even more real than waking life (I actually had depersonalization a lot and this is something I did not feel during lucid dreams).. I had one dream in specific that I remember. It didn't last long, basically only a minute. But I remember being on a rooftop, the sun shining and making it difficult to see, but I remember how real it looked and I saw cars driving, people walking on the sidewalk. Everything looked like it would in real life. Consciousness is a very, very, VERY complex thing. And as soon as you stop worrying about what's real and what isn't, life becomes so much better. Great video btw.
I'm struggling with solipsism too. I have lsd and, I have read that lsd can create feelings of solipsism too, because you are basically creating your subjective experience with a substance, and that basically make you the creator of your reality with the help of the chemicals in your brain. I want to know your point of view about this.
Blacko Cazares Yes, LSD can do that. But everytime I felt like that while on it, it felt great. It didn't feel depressing like it normally is. But only do LSD if you know you are ready for it.
I've had this question since I was around four or five and now I have my answer, I am quite shocked but I'm not depressed about knowing this because now I have my answer.
This is a story of a man named stanley. Stanley liked to think alot. But one day stanley started thinking about the concept of thought its self. Beyond that stanley started thinking about the driving force behind thought that allows thought to be created
+Playasum What tells what electrical pulses to move when you want to. Why can you control yourself. Why does your brain control yourself if it's just an electrical pulse. What tells your brain to send those pulses( really think about it and try not to get too agitated about the grammar was in deep thought).
I dont believe this theory but if it were true and your mind spawned projections called people it would probably happen subconsciously. Most people have had nightmares or eerie things happen to them in their dream that they do not want..so there's that.
+gangstervural That reminds me of a bit of great advice I saw not too long ago- 'don't mistake a language barrier for a lack of intelligence.' I think this sentiment is a lot less obvious to a lot of people than it really should be.
This is a topic that bugged me since I was around 9/10 years old. Every time I think about it I cannot help but feel alone, normally when something bothers you or you have a question you talk to someone, but asking yourself whether you are the only conscious being or not makes you unable to ask someone about advice on this topic, well just because you don't know if they are real or not
The thing is are you truly conscious? What if you telling yourself “Im Conscious” is a lower form of consciousness and your not experiencing ‘true’ consciousness. An illusion of course.
that's true, but if everyone else acts like they are conscious and you can't tell the difference, then whether the question was asked to a being with consciousness, or a philosophical zombie, the answer they output would be the same right? so why not ask questions
Saw 3 minutes of your video, clicked watch later, saw another title clicked watch later without clicking it, then saw a third and just subbed. will watch them all later. Awesome channel!
+Austin Duffield I disagree I'm real but you'd say that I'm only saying that to trick you when I say your saying that to trick me this whole problem of this question is a fucking paradox think about it I could go on forever and I bet your thinking he's a robot he's only saying that well m8 welcome back to the paradox!
I've thought about this too many times. In the end, I think that we all have consciousness though, because anatomically our brains are pretty much the same.
"...here I'm now sitting by myself, uh, er, talking to myself. That's, that's chaos theory." - Dr. Ian Malcom, "Jurassic Park." It's possible that all I can ever do is talk to myself, if I'm all that really exists. Is all this text on the screen, seemingly coming from different "people," really just the function of my own imagination? Is there anyone other than "I"? God help me. Is this not just asking myself for help, if I am, indeed, all that exists?
When you think of why you werent in another body at birth is the most puzzling question. "Why this perspective?" I believe there is only one perspective. Since Time is subjective based on what you focus on, consciousness is outside of Time. I believe that theres only one Person, the Original, God, You, Me. Each other person is you in another timeline scenario. You may look different but its core is you. Thats why the ultimate good person will treat others as themselves. If you have any difficulty knowing whats right to do by someone else just picture it being done to you, how would you feel? Its like Quantum Leap the series. If we had the ability to remember where you were before this lifetime I believe you'd discover you were everyone, just figuring out how to get by. Sometimes you made huge mistakes, killed alot of people, you just didnt know better, sometimes you were the most positive change the world had ever seen. A weird thought, but doesnt that make you feel a huge level of compassion and empathy for the most stupid and ignorant person? Then doesnt that make you feel a new level of courage for the most successfully wealthy individual, telling you that yes you can do it too, because you already did it? We've all felt every emotion of Hatred to Love, its just the actions that counted, the actions that made a "Lifestyle". So what you gonna do in this Style?
You're Bahraini?! I travel halfway around the world to live in London and somehow still manage to spend all my time watching my countrymen ramble on! Genuinely love all your stuff!
I genuinely struggle with it, @Sharkee. This line of thinking as an actual personal, existential process began a few years (quite a few years, if I'm honest) after my first encounter with thought and consciousness while at Uni. But, it wasn't until 2019-2020 that it became something, for me, that resulted in huge existential depression which slowly unravelled over the course of about four years. Great video! I appreciate that you posted this.
Unlikely, you probably just notice it more. Just like someone who sees them self as negative notices more negative aspects to their life whereas nothing has actually changed. Confirmation bias I think it's called.
This is exactly what I'm trying to tell my friends all the time, but they don't even understand what I mean by consciousness. And if I try to explain it by saying it's like your "soul" or something, they stop listening and think I'm talking about religious stuff. I'm so happy I found this video, because the problem itself is already so hard to explain. I can just link people this video now. I feel like this whole thing is easier to explain in English than in German. Oh and I gotta add: You need to get yourself someone to edit your videos and some proper equipment. You could really take off on UA-cam, in my opinion. You're pretty awesome and it would be cool if you could make this your job.
I always think about this every time i go to bed, it really makes me happy that I'm not the only one who thinks about this, It's just something I will never understand and I don't know if I want to...
I used to think this as a child. I'd even think that things would pop out of existence when I stopped being within proximity of them. Then when I come back within proximity they continue existing as if they have always existed. This what what I thought from age 5 - 10 roughly
+noel stoehr we are all one, concioussness, divided into different characters in the same simulation. you are the only real one, so am i clearly we have to be the same in consciousness, the only difference is the exterior, consciousness might not even exist anywhere at all. same consciousness different people different times. all actions are determined consciousness is the observer of a deterministic simulation, each person is a video game character and you are the only player, each life ends a new one begins until you have run threw all the characters, but all the players are equal in that consciousnesses is the sole player, i am the only one that is real, consciousness itself. all realities are simulations in a grand single persons mind.
+Unfathomable Being How do you know for sure, if anything has ever been seen? What if it was merely electrical signals, which made us think we saw it? If there's such a thing as "we", of course.... :-D (Hmm, wonder if there are any electrical signals at all, or is it just an illusion?)
im not religious specifically, but i believe in everything. Literally everything is possible, since we dont know, i could have been given the memories of my past life, and now i think that happened, but in reality nothing of that happened, even the bible could be true, since i dont know if im just an artificial intelligence that was given all this information.
+HK BLAU Do you believe that even what is logically inconsistent can be possible? Other question, do you think there is such a thing as an objective truth? Even if we can never know for sure it to be true, is there something that actually is true or is truth only subjective anyhow?
Like i said, literally everything is possible... that answers your first question. I think that there are many objective truths... reasoning is that if there are infinity amount of different possibilties how and what the universe is, isnt the chance for a specific thing to be true 0%? so maybe everything might be true... idk i havent given that much thought even tho i think of that everytime i shower :D...
If the bible could be true, and literally every other religious text could be true, and they seem to contradict one another, and there are over 100,000 gods that have been created by man, and they're all possibly true, what are the odds that the bible's God is the correct one and not the others that have been mentioned in human history. 1 percent? 0.00000000001 percent? There are hundreds of thousands of gods that could be true, meaning the chance any one is true and not the others is INCREDIBLY minuscule.
ive had these thoughts before. at times i feel like all this shit is here to keep me suppressed, under control, and to keep me from fulfilling my ultimate potential.
Solipsism is something I considered when I was very young. It's an extremely narrow-sighted and immature view of the universe that any intelligent person should grow out of.
I had a dream that I was in a video game. But I did not think of it as a video game, I thought of it as reality. Everything in the dream felt real to me, and that was all that existed for me. But I woke up, then realized it wasn't real, though during the dream, it was real. What if life is just a dream? In my dream, I thought that was life. What if the same is happening to me in this life?
I've thought about this for years, ever since I was maybe 10. I'm 18 now, when I watch people talk about it, it just freaks me out because they, well they are talking about it too you know? I thought it was unique to me so it makes me think it's as if it'd just a method of trying to convince me idk
I believe a high consciousness is a result of natural selective and evolutionary pressure to make humans perceive threats in a more efficient way, Resulting to less stress and longer lifespan. Take the typical household cat, The cat is inside your home, it is completely safe, Though, even the most foreign sound will bring the cats attention, the cat will even get ready to fight, flight or play dead in the event of the perceived threat, This foreign sound is actually just a friendly family member knocking on the door. A typical cats lifespan is around 15 years. Take the typical human, the human will understand and decide that there is a very low chance of any threat from happening from the already known safety of the home, A foreign sound like the door knocking won't be perceived as a threat, but thanks to consciousness and the ability for our brains to understand, We will take it as an Opportunity, rather than a threat. Less stress and less fear is proven to be better for health and longer lifespan.
+OnePercent And as you see, i want to give answer though question... If somebody can understand, he will. If somebody can't, he won't. But if you want to ask me why? I think that persons who never asked themselves, (what and who i am)? Who haven't been scared to look at their own hands... And ask themselves again what I am. They are like trash on this earth. Because those don't know themselves and others. In one word they are doing just "Normal" things. I would never say this word up there "Normal" because so many blind people on TV show's have used that... I see in their eyes that they don't understand meaning of this word! And again throught my words im trying to lead you deeper into thinking what i want you to think. Because it is the way of looking at everything around you and you'r own understanding. There are many of those ways you can look at everything around you! Now how much of them? There is not number for that... So when we came to here, what is consciousness, is it IQ of understanding? Well it is the power of our being, (soul and mind). Our feelings can effect it as well! BUT, there is no scientific way to explane Feeling!!! Give me scientific way of understanding at my way of looking at everyone, my though's?! Give me scientific way of how dark exist? Dark colour/nothingness, can be the light for blinded person, because you don't know what you see there! So understand you'r self look at you'r hands... Please, and why you did it? No, don't follow my text, do it now! look at you'r hands. Don't think and don't link it to something religious, link it to you!
+OnePercent Im sorry, i didn't mean to say that those poeople who don't understand are trash on this earth. But they will one day, maybe or not... I don't know. But those are without deep understanding. I have 15 years, maybe this information will help.
+Stefan Trebinjac i'm trying to sift through your mumbling and bad paragraphing but based on what u say, your point is about that there is no scientific way or understanding about conciousness? is that what you are saying?
There are only about 200 other "legit" emulated people out there. The rest are just constantly shifting filler no matter where I travel. Been feeling this since I was a child.
I'm one of the 200 then. How could i prove being conscious to you? What is consciousness? Is it because of a soul or just the brain creating consciousness or something else altogether?
Akiva Lev No. You sir should be ashamed. I trust Sharkee to provide me with content I know I will love. I trust him so much that I like before watching as a token of gratitude. You have proven to me that you do not trust him to make good content. Therefore, I do not trust you at all. Good day to you Sir!
This has been one of the most creative and thought provoking videos that I have watched in a long while. Great job. I will subscribe and look for more interesting things to share on your channel.
Nice video! Coincidentally, this morning I was wondering how just arranging a bunch of atoms and molecules can make up something as complex as a humans and our brains :P Also, how do we remember things? Like, our brain is just this pink ball that has the capacity of holding soooo many memories which is just mind-blowing (if you pardon the pun)
+noel stoehr At least this is something you can physically figure out with an advanced enough brain scan, that doesn't exist yet. Logically, if the signal for what you are seeing is the same as someone else's, then you see the same color. If it is different, then you see a different color. Problem is isolating what is which signal.
Lantzen I didn't say I see the same signal, I said that if we scanned the brains and saw that the signals were the same, then it would be the same. If they were different, then of course it is different. Brains are not some magical thing that can't be decoded. You may not be able to see the same experience as someone else, but you can tell if two people's experiences are the same. The movies, as the video stated it, an be decoded with the right tech. The observer, however, cannot. But since the observer only sees the movie, then it harder matters.
I have memories from when I was less than a year old, even though I've been assured you don't form memories until you are around 36 months. I even asked my mother about it when I was a teenager and she confirmed that the situation the memory took place in only could've happened when I was less than a year old.
I like to view other people as projections of my self from within. 😎 Consciousness can be proven by observing the characters in your own dreams. you created is there Universe it's just as you created this universe just as that Universe was created by you. 😎
I am the only conscious being. Everyone else is just a complex configuration of matter whom only exist because I exist. Anyone who says otherwise is merely me confirming my own existence.
You're probably absolutely right, and the same is probably just as true for me, and the same is probably just as true for the person who commented above me.
Keep up these awesome videos man! No idea why are aren't more popular, but you will be! I appreciate your intellect and your wish to educate us on interesting stuff. 10/10!
The first reason I would say that the universe can't be inside my head, is that I think I would never be able to concoct such a complicated world from my imagination. Dreams gives a good idea what a brain can come up with; the experience feels absolutely real, but it's usually shallow and very absurd. The world is wondrous, but not absurd and definitely not shallow. (if that was the topic, I assumed so)
I thought the same exact thing. Or every person has their own different dimensions. But I can't share it to my friends because they'll think I'm crazy.
We all have our "own" realities and universes. That's actually why all 7 billion of us have our own opinion on stuff. It's why words can be perceived as either supportive or hostile. It's why you found this video enlightening and you personally feel your friends will hate it. Furthermore, we bond with people because of "personal beliefs and values" (similar perception of reality). Anytime I feel like I'm the only concious being, I remind myself that there is a lot of environmental destruction I would personally fix with a snap if I could. Same goes for poverty, if I was truly the only being, I would have created homes to ensure no one would ever have to sleep on the streets again. I would also bring to life relatives and loved ones that I miss.
There are no conscious beings, there's just the cosmos, which has managed to congeal certain parts of itself into clusters of matter that perceive the cosmos from limited perspectives. As Carl Sagan said, 'we are a way for the cosmos to know itself'. I guess this is a form of pantheism. I don't think that's necessarily true, but it seems cool to me :P
Proving your consciousness is like defining color to someone who's never been able to see Google the definition of "sonder" and soak in that perspective because that's the reality that everybody is living.
For like a whole year I was convinced that either I was the only person in existence or that this was just a stage of life or simulation and that when I died I would start a different life or exit the simulation.
You think these comments are gonna trick me into thinking you're all real?
+Alice Smith No, I'm definitely not real.
Damnit, you know that we're fake.
+Alice Smith She's finally learned the truth. Everybody run!!
You think you're gonna trick me into thinking you're real by telling me I'm not?
inception + consciousness = conception?
I had this exact thought when I was like 8 and its bugged me out ever since.
No point bugging yourself over it when either way it's difficult to know and has no real impact on your human experience. Accept what you cannot change and change what you can.
Lovasz you're right thanks!
I've been thinking about it since I was 8 and I have come to the conclusion everyone experiences the same stuff as me, and everyone has come to the realisation as me.
You can never be sure about that Sharpthy, maybe all of the robots around you are just programmed to tell you they also had that thought.
yeah if life is a simulation, worst game ever.
I want my fuckin money back :-P
Thank god. I thought I was the only one who thought this...
You may very well be the only one who has ever thought about that. You're possible the only concious being...

There is only one consciousness and we are all that consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. In other words we are the awareness that is experiencing this movie. There is no individual you. That is an illusion. We are all "I" the one consciousness.
We are all scratching my balls right now

Non duality? :)

No i beileve other animals and living things are counscious too except they have different levels of counciousness

The problem is that it's literally impossible to definitively prove that.

You cannot prove that your blue doesnt look like my red etc. We all just know the names of the given colours.
what if reality is just an illusion created by the mind, and when we die its just us realising this and getting control back and are able to create our own reality

I wish.

nah death is just another illusion we are infinite beings we can not die. when released from the body we are placed into another illusion ascended from this one, and so on, and so on, and so on...you can chose to go backwards and descend too. its infinite and with awareness yeah I agree thats when you are able to create you're own reality, however you're still not in complete control cause in order there is chaos unless with a singularity there will always be a duality.

The universe and all of existence is consciousness experiencing itself.
+Omega Point Singularity yes. this is on point.

however this is intellectual sort of deduction and is not neccessarily lived or actually realized ....
+Omega Point Singularity Of course. By rule this is all hypothetical to me. there is no true way to prove ANY of this. God is a paradox. Any god. As is consciousness itself. Even existing or a lack of existence is a contradiction. I just enjoy how simply you put it.
Yeah, I know... but the punchline isn't funny without the joke.
My unconscious mind is constantly giving me what I want to know from this "external universe". I think about it, and later it would exist.

It make me almost have a mental breakdown
But if we all have the same consciousness, what does it even matter anyway? If other people are just "you" in other bodies, then it becomes irrelevant for someone to question whether you're the only conscious being or not. Cuz with us being all one consciousness, you're still the only person that exists
I Am The Only Real Person In The Universe.
(paradox incoming?)
My main goal, again, is to learn from all of the reactions I get as this is a really interesting subject. Let those brains sparkle! :)
TL;DR there's my reaction.
Allen R Well... Respect your honesty...
Sorry. You lost me at "3th"
"Today a young man on acid realised that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consiousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is just a dream and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather!" - Bill Hicks
I think our universe is conscious, it looks exactly like a group of connected neurons when you take into account dark matter.

*****
I still can't wrap my head around it. I decided to give my two-decade old question another stab and I still couldn't resolve it. It bothered me quite a bit
+Mark Fredrick Graves, Jr. I thought the same at age 4, but do you think it's normal to think that at that age?
+Colin Morgan I had similar experiences at that age, I just didn't know the vocabulary, or that other people think about it too.
+Colin Morgan
huh... I thought I replied to this. I suppose not, because most people have trouble thinking, period. I bet we're a rare bunch!
Blacko Cazares
Yes, LSD can do that. But everytime I felt like that while on it, it felt great. It didn't feel depressing like it normally is.
But only do LSD if you know you are ready for it.

We are all separate beings. When people say that we are all one is a lie. We are individual souls having an experience.

Is there anyone other than "I"?
God help me. Is this not just asking myself for help, if I am, indeed, all that exists?
When you think of why you werent in another body at birth is the most puzzling question. "Why this perspective?"
I believe there is only one perspective.

I genuinely struggle with it, @Sharkee. This line of thinking as an actual personal, existential process began a few years (quite a few years, if I'm honest) after my first encounter with thought and consciousness while at Uni. But, it wasn't until 2019-2020 that it became something, for me, that resulted in huge existential depression which slowly unravelled over the course of about four years. Great video! I appreciate that you posted this.
I just can't wait until we have the answers to the so very many questions we as humans have about consciousness and our brain
Everytime I ponder over a saying... Everyone starts using it. Movies, people, books.
Exactly!
Very suspicious...
Unlikely, you probably just notice it more. Just like someone who sees them self as negative notices more negative aspects to their life whereas nothing has actually changed. Confirmation bias I think it's called.
Oh okay
...or maybe that is the cornerstone of how the matrix works! haha no, but you have a point mate.
+Warwipf I can relate to that too, in terms of trying to explain an idea to someone who's ignorant or not curious.
what can i say, german is a really bad language
Your friends are bots, they will nod when you say something but will do what they are programmed to do
I always think about this every time i go to bed, it really makes me happy that I'm not the only one who thinks about this, It's just something I will never understand and I don't know if I want to...
I used to think this as a child. I'd even think that things would pop out of existence when I stopped being within proximity of them. Then when I come back within proximity they continue existing as if they have always existed. This what what I thought from age 5 - 10 roughly

+noel stoehr we are all one, concioussness, divided into different characters in the same simulation. you are the only real one, so am i clearly we have to be the same in consciousness, the only difference is the exterior, consciousness might not even exist anywhere at all. same consciousness different people different times. all actions are determined consciousness is the observer of a deterministic simulation, each person is a video game character and you are the only player, each life ends a new one begins until you have run threw all the characters, but all the players are equal in that consciousnesses is the sole player, i am the only one that is real, consciousness itself. all realities are simulations in a grand single persons mind.

im not religious specifically, but i believe in everything.
***** Oh you don't shower very often then. ok.
LOL
If the bible could be true, and literally every other religious text could be true, and they seem to contradict one another, and there are over 100,000 gods that have been created by man, and they're all possibly true, what are the odds that the bible's God is the correct one and not the others that have been mentioned in human history. 1 percent? 0.00000000001 percent? There are hundreds of thousands of gods that could be true, meaning the chance any one is true and not the others is INCREDIBLY minuscule.
I really loved the way you presented this, it was very easy to follow. Thanks!
ive had these thoughts before. at times i feel like all this shit is here to keep me suppressed, under control, and to keep me from fulfilling my ultimate potential.
Solipsism is something I considered when I was very young. It's an extremely narrow-sighted and immature view of the universe that any intelligent person should grow out of.
I totally aggre with you
tbh this very particular thought is driving me crazy!
I had a dream that I was in a video game. But I did not think of it as a video game, I thought of it as reality. Everything in the dream felt real to me, and that was all that existed for me. But I woke up, then realized it wasn't real, though during the dream, it was real.

Thank you so much! I was so confused and kind of scared until I watched this. This helped me a lot.

+Stefan Trebinjac not really sure what your point is in your arguments. So many questions.
+OnePercent No, there is but for some things isn't... And what people can't understand, they don't care about that, or don't want to understand...
There are only about 200 other "legit" emulated people out there. The rest are just constantly shifting filler no matter where I travel. Been feeling this since I was a child.
And the answer to your question...you can't.
I'm one of the 200 then. How could i prove being conscious to you? What is consciousness? Is it because of a soul or just the brain creating consciousness or something else altogether?
I guess i'm filler then...
goddammit
Liked before watching :D
+Mr Rishi The Cookie 7:51
Didn't know you were sponsored by marvel :P
We miss his uploads :D
Yoppy Halilintar I know. It was like a Vsause with a better accent and stays on topic a little more. :P
Fox is making the deadpool movie.
Also like before watching! You should be ashamed
Akiva Lev No. You sir should be ashamed. I trust Sharkee to provide me with content I know I will love. I trust him so much that I like before watching as a token of gratitude. You have proven to me that you do not trust him to make good content. Therefore, I do not trust you at all. Good day to you Sir!
okay, all the deep and heavy stuff aside - waking up at 12? ur living the dream, man
Finally!! Someone who understands me!! No one ever knows what I mean when I say these things
yoooo I've thought this my whole life.
U aren't concious tho... I am the only one. Zombies will be downvoting this comment.
This video has given me a fear of white blood cells.
Can you imagine how many are crawling around like creeps just under your skin?
lnopia I dont want to think about that
You should keep the amount down or theyill take all the red bloodcells room.....
Hey, that's a nice profile picture
The Nintenpro Yup. Inopia does have a cool profile picture.
Aaaaaaand here comes my existential crisis....
When I was seven, I had this thought ALL the time. I even told my unconscious friends.
I've been thinking of this since 4 in 2008...
but... now i know it's not true.
ABS Bud-4 why’s that
What if everyone see colors differently than you?
+noel stoehr im constantly thinking about this.... how can you tell my green is the same as your green. vsause made a video about this.
+noel stoehr At least this is something you can physically figure out with an advanced enough brain scan, that doesn't exist yet. Logically, if the signal for what you are seeing is the same as someone else's, then you see the same color. If it is different, then you see a different color. Problem is isolating what is which signal.
Vsauce have a video about it
+cortster12 How do you know that you see the same signal as somebody else?
KenTheTrul well, i know nothing before my 12th birthday, maybe it is my 1st buildday
Looking in the brain for conciousness is like looking in the radio for the announcer.
Both being non local for those that are tired.
I like to view other people as projections of my self from within. 😎
Consciousness can be proven by observing the characters in your own dreams. you created is there Universe it's just as you created this universe just as that Universe was created by you. 😎
I am the only conscious being. Everyone else is just a complex configuration of matter whom only exist because I exist. Anyone who says otherwise is merely me confirming my own existence.
Your comment only proved my existence. This comment itself has proven your existence in your perspective.
no
Phenomena cannot happen without observation. You exist only because I'm aware a human such as you exists. You can't prove otherwise.
+Xenon Virus True, love you'r comment!
You're probably absolutely right, and the same is probably just as true for me, and the same is probably just as true for the person who commented above me.
Why don't you have a Million subs yet?
Something's wrong with the Matrix
+crash6871
Its your movie, you tell us why.
+crash6871 because this was discussed long ago by philosophers and was called "brain in a vat" theory.
+Tom Mulligan Because the content isn't shitty enough
+crash6871 It's the Matrix feed line, not a glitch this time. :-D
I might be making this video up as I watch it
Keep up these awesome videos man! No idea why are aren't more popular, but you will be! I appreciate your intellect and your wish to educate us on interesting stuff. 10/10!
"you dont just see the actor's nose the whole time"
since when?
if all the conscious beings were removed from the universe would it still exist?
no. If there is no conscious to collapse the wave function then there would be no universe as we see now. It would only be potential.
That depends on What do you mean by the word "exist" :)
Silly. Of course it would still exist. Its a bit self-righteous to suggest otherwise.
Long before, and long after.
Haiden No
Doug sillig remember the universe is in us, we are not in the universe.
this channel will be the next vsauce
Daniel Astbury it is tho
I don't think that's necessarily true, but it seems cool to me :P
was looking for this comment 👍🏾👍🏾 i agree with you
who the fuck has to set an alarm for 11:50 am?
I do that when I go out with friends all night and end up sleeping at like 4am and need to be up for whatever reason.
The only conscious being in the universe does. fkin zombie
+Fidencio Delaluz makes sense.
i do
during the summer I woked pizza delivery and that's about when I woke up usually
0:30
I'm way too short to be driving.
Proving your consciousness is like defining color to someone who's never been able to see
Google the definition of "sonder" and soak in that perspective because that's the reality that everybody is living.
For like a whole year I was convinced that either I was the only person in existence or that this was just a stage of life or simulation and that when I died I would start a different life or exit the simulation.
