To the people criticising Alex's vocal performance, it's worth remembering that singing that many words accurately while dancing and playing guitar is extremely difficult - particularly when you're very nervous (this was one of their first TV appearances) and you struggle with asthma. It's not their best performance, but these are tricky songs to perform live.
It's funny how everything I like it's connected, idk if I'm so normal but TF2 - Rocket League - Franz Ferdinand - Two Door Cinema Club - Scott Pilgrim - Etc, etc it's always connected.
Franz is one of those bands I didn't fully appreciate until Right Thoughts came out. I loved that record from start to finish, then went back and dug into everything else I missed.
nobody noticed during "Michael" when Alex sings, "Come all over me" at 9:57. he did this at live shows all the time, this could have been the first or one of the first.
the weird thing about this song is that the studio version we all know and love sounds nothing like the live version. they tweaked and mixed that single so hard , that when you hear ANY live version, it sounds wrong. the guitar parts on the recording just don't match with what they played live.
Watching this for the very first time in 2022, knowing this song since 2004, I must admit i am kind of disappointed by Alex's vocal performance. He sounded soooo much better on the album.
Yes, as much as I love them and their music, despite all other comments here, they really aren't that good live compared to their studio recordings. Especially Alex has problems hitting the notes and avoids doing the high ones oftenly.
I am a huge longtime Franz fan. I recognize that Alex has a lot of vocal limitations. As a frontman, he's awesome. I love it, but I can see the difference between the live voice (and its flaws) and the one on the albums. But I keep wondering how much his asthma weakens and harms his voice. I don't know if i'm right, but I feel his shortness of breath and fatigue in his singing. I really wanted to know if it's a fact or just my impression.
@@layrasimpson2207 I've just seen this performance for the first time and gotta admit it's perhaps not their best vocally, but the energy they project is just there!...however, most of their live performances are really neat and Alex'x voice is superb even in really big stadiums...this is TV...don't know how if it might affect them...I truly belive they are better live than on TV...and yex, anyone will sound great in recorded album. I highly recommend watching their performances in Chile and Argentina...
British music almost became great again with groups like this occupying the main stages at festivals back around 2006-2010 but like a ten pound note ripped from our hand at the cashline, it was consigned to history. What did we find to replace it? A ten pence piece adorned with names like Stormzy, Sheeran and various grime / non descript London based artists bullshit. And it's audience doesn't even know this type of music exists.

The bit at the start where they are all playing the guitar staring at the camera feels like a scene from Scott Pilgrim vs The World
You should hear them live, they're so much better live

Ha ha yeah I can totally see that.
@@MvsG18 Add this: Cyberpunk
Kyle MacLachlan and Mads Mikkelsen in a band together
Pity no one ever mentions Paul Thomson, he's a beast of a drummer and drives the rhythm with excellent vocals too.
I knew these songs were recorded on a Rickenbacker bass. There is no mistaking that sound.
Nick giving off some serious Gary Numan vibes.
He's literally strutting. It's fabulous.

Alex does a mean Wilko Johnson!
A great cross between Kraftwerk and Talking Heads.
Nope. It's Franz Ferdinand
Talking heads always been kind of bland and boring for me, I just respect what they mean but their music is borderline boring.
Franz is one of those bands I didn't fully appreciate until Right Thoughts came out. I loved that record from start to finish, then went back and dug into everything else I missed.
Take me Out. What an anthem!

There are better videos of live performances of these songs, this one is not their best but not their worst as well
Great band.
Nick has a bit of the Chris Difford about him...which is no bad thing.
Feel these fellas took a lot of inspiration from Talking Heads. Good stuff

very average live. Great songs but let down by the sound
I've always felt they were sloppy live
