Never was there in person, but used to love watching hockey games on TV at the good ole Stadium in Chicago.

Every time I hear that organ I get goosebumps and tears in my eyes. I spent so much time in that building as a kid. Incredible memories. This is a great video.

I couldn't agree more. I even miss the smells of smoke and stale beer that permeated the place. The United Center is a sterile environment by comparison. Thanks for your comment.

Just one thing, the organ was not demolished with the building, but might as well have been. Bob Roppolo, a local organist, and owner of a The 19th Hole, formed a group to remove the organ and find a new home for it. The six manual console was on display at the 19th Hole and for the first time it was possible for anyone to sit at the "monstrous" console. When Bob Roppolo decided to close the 19th Hole and relocate to Arizona, the bulk of the stadium Barton and the 19th Hole Barton was moved to a warehouse in Phoenix, Arizona. In October of 1996, a propane tank on a trailer parked next to the warehouse exploded which created a big fire in the surrounding area. The warehouse was soon engulfed and most of the two Bartons were destroyed. The six manual console and what is left of the organ was sold to Phil Maloof, Las Vegas.

Mikita, Hull, Jordan, Eddy the Eagle, Chelios. All scaled by a new building.

I saw Elvis Presley perform at the Chicago stadium in 1972. What a show!

I know the feeling. It's where I took my future wife on our first date in 1974. We saw Frank Sinatra.

Should built a new Areana like Chicago Stadium. And seats 38.000. The best old barn in the NHL. Bring back the old pipe organ. That was a tradition to the Hawks for many years. That old pipe organ rocked. I hope I get a chance to play the old Balton Organ . I'm a organist at High School Hockey games for 30 years. I hope I get a chance to play the old pipe organ. Won Dee what it sound like playing Journey. ACDC. Metellica. Joe Walsh.

The only thing left of this organ is the console which is installed in a home in Las Vegas.

The only thing missing from that "My Vision" audio is the sound of the paper beer cups being popped by customers on their way out of the mezzanine. What memories.....

I will keep going to Hawks games no matter where they play but there isn't anywhere like the old stadium and there never will be again. And in comparison the new organ sucks!

I hope Rocky w. will get the Barton console back..it it's home at the uc..before it ends up sold to the new hockey venuve in vagas. this will end the healing to Chicago fans who wanted the pipe organ in Chicago..not in the booth..they can make more money if they turn it into a skybox..ha. take out a few seats like they did in Tampa bay.s venue...Allen organ co..can plug it in. mr.mollof that owns the Barton console rebuild it with all new electronics. paint etc...pls bring home our Barton...ty.

A very special thank you to Frank Pellico for being one of the the primary reasons for the demise of that wonderful treasure by convincing the Wirtzes to purchase some electronic piece of crap from a company in Pennsylvania. Hell, I'm from Pennsylvania and I can assure you organ building is not their forte.

Wrong! The Barton was not destroyed. It was removed. Last time I had heard the owner of the Kings basketball team owned it. The pipes were destroyed Ina fire though. Wirtz should have kept t on display at the new house as a genuine trophy. With a AL Melgard figure on the bench

Wrong! The organ came down with the building, as it was part of the building itself. The organ console was saved and became a collector's item. It was akin to having a computer keyboard without a hard drive. Had it been possible to move the organ to the United Center, they would have.
