this is illegal, when the function is not defined to x = 0, so you must break it in two parts of improper integral
Wrong. First of all, we are not integrating over any singularities or poles, 1/x^2 is continuous over the interval [2,4] so there is no need to divide it up.
and regardless, even if we were integrating from [-1,1], we couldnt. any integral that includes x=0, is divergent. splitting it up would just give you infinity-infinity which is undefined
