jesse mueller: professional musical theater actress, sings her heart out in front of a crowd eight times a week also jesse mueller: would you sing with me stephen im nervous
whenever she talks i just expect her to have a southern accent and when she doesn't im always confused until i remind myself she doesn't actually have the accent
ngjo3y You're saying that as if Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 should come out in another year and The Great Comet of 1812 should win more awards than Dear Evan Hansen.
Jessie's heart warmed over completely @ 4:34 when she sees that Stephen has a really great voice. She had no idea it looks like. Seeing that surprise on her face is worth every minute of this video.
this past november my school's theater program had a NYC trip to see Waitress. Afterwards we had a talkback session with some crew members (we were told that it was just crew related, no actors). After a while, Charity and Caitlin came out, later followed by Drew and then Jessie (who sat in front of me). They talked to us for a while, answered questions, and overall were just really nice. An amazing experience.
Stephen you really paint a great picture of NYC life and culture almost every night. It warms my heart and makes me reminisce about the few months I've spent there throughout the years. Your doing the city of New York a service that will be remembered for a long time. Hopefully I'll make it to a show when I come down from Canada.
This was so heart warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stephen, you have this special sense of knowing how to branch out to different forms of art and it's incredible the connection you can have with your guests and audiences. Keep up the incredible work.
Luan Oliveira yeah idk why. She was on the show for Waitress, yet he started asking Carole King related questions. No disrespect, but it's like come on dude!
It blew my mind that they bake a pie in the lobby of the theatre for every show!!! I definitely smelled it when I saw the show last week! Talking about an immersive theatre experience!!!
She's so adorable :3 I never really got into Carolyn King's music, but I do really enjoy what parts of Beautiful I've heard and the Tony performances I saw back when she was still doing the show, and same with Waitress. She absolutely killed it at the Tonys; Mueller seems like she has such an impressive range of emotional expression in the characters she plays. I hope I get to see her perform live one day!
I’ve never seen this lady before but I think I’m in love. The way she looks at Steven when he starts singing “tonight you’re mine completely...” (4:33).
I just clicked on this vid because of the pie... now I'm intrigued... who is this beautiful, charming girl with a badass vibe and a great voice, and why is she not winning Oscars and Emmys yet!
She actually was on TV this year - she had a -very- small role on The Family - but her love is theatre. She actually comes from an acting family, they're all very popular in the Chicago theatre scene. Her parents both act, and her three siblings are all working actors as well. Just really good, salt of the earth people with a tremendous amount of talent!
She was in a movie recently (with Meryl Streep, no singing) and she will be in a TV show as Loretta Lynn with Megan Hilty as Patsy Cline, or vice versa
I felt the saaaaaame way like a year ago but if you just keep practicing, eventually you don't even have to think about it it'll come so naturally (I recommend starting with harmonising with the songs you listen to everyday, just whenever you play a song just try to figure out the harmony and sing along and it doesn't matter if you don't get it at first you will eventually xx) good luck :)
Will you still love me tomorrow is the most depressing and beautiful song I know. I first heard it in the movie filth and it just breaks my heart every time I hear it
I love Jesse so much just her attitude in general and she is so incredibly talented and I also loved her dress and how it seems that she didn't dress a certain way to cater to anyone else's preference except her own
I absolutely love her! She’s so beautiful and very normal. She’s such a normal sized human too. Not ridiculously skinny like some actresses. It’s pretty refreshing. And... “they don’t even have to blow it, it just comes.” She cracked me up!!!
not gonna lie, ive heard jessie's rendition of "she used to be mine" at the tonys and i wasn't a fan of her singing voice bc something seemed off about her tone and it sounded like she had some type of accent but im in love with her acting and her personality here which im seeing for the first time here (also, her singing voice is amazing and powerful dont come at me theater nerds)

"You don't even have to blow it, it just comes."
HAHAHHAAHHA.

MEEEE
SAME
If only waitress didn't come out at the same time as Hamilton sighs
Waitress is a hit musical and is cheaper than hamilton so I see more people going to waitress nowadays
Well their comment was probably about the Tony's. If Waitress came out at a different time, it would have gotten many awards.
ngjo3y You're saying that as if Natasha, Pierre and The Great Comet of 1812 should come out in another year and The Great Comet of 1812 should win more awards than Dear Evan Hansen.
Just goes to show that we’ve had sooo many good plays
_PhantashiYume_ Same thing with _Catch me if you can_ and _The Book of Mormon_
"Do you like human beings?" best interview question i've heard in a while
LOL I frigin love it
'You don't have to blow it, it just comes' - Jessie Meuller 2016

I thought it was pleasant surprise at Stephen's Carole King impression, right? Great video!
I love Jessie's face as she tries to find the harmony. A true pro at work.
Jessie Mueller is such a beautiful, humble, and genuine human being!
Rachel Jocson f
Assuming this was actually unrehearsed, she does a very good job at improvising harmony.
Well she's a professional singer..
Right though!
+gigi vitelli She could have done a much more basic harmony than that one. Not all singers are good at harmonies.
it was very lovely and not to take anything away from jessie but it was legit just the thirds above and below, aka the most basic harmony possible!
I dont find harmonizing hard. I just need to know the melody of the song and I can create a harmony on the spot
My absolute favorite actress on Broadway. She's amazing.
This video makes me smile! Colbert has a special way of making his guests feel comfortable and facilitating organic conversations. Love it.
she seems lovely.
I guess you could even say that she has a BEAUTIFUL personality! *ba dum tss*
Beau Bentley she's a sweetheart. Met her twice and both times she was super nice.

love how Jessie switched keys and said that Carole would have sung it in a lower range.
the chemistry those 2 had during that interview was so genuine
she needs to do more press. i am obsessed with her
This was so heart warming!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Stephen, you have this special sense of knowing how to branch out to different forms of art and it's incredible the connection you can have with your guests and audiences. Keep up the incredible work.
Wow Stephen has a nice voice !
This looked like a father and daughter duet and its soo pure
falling in love with Stephen more and more😍 I wish they'd sing the whole song.
Damn but that woman has range
I wish I could have a teeny tiny bit of her talent!
She's brilliant.
Imagine if they had pies baking in the lobby of a production of Sweeney Todd...
You are such a genius
OMG
Different smell 😂
That smell would be terrible!
...only where it sat
she's still one of the most delightful people ive ever seen
CAN'T BELIEVE YOU HAD HER AND DIDN'T DEDICATE A SINGLE PASSING QUESTION TO SARA BAREILLES' MUSIC
I FEEL YOU. 😦
RIGHT?!
Luan Oliveira yeah idk why. She was on the show for Waitress, yet he started asking Carole King related questions. No disrespect, but it's like come on dude!
OMG TRUE
This isn’t the whole interview
loved when she sang 'Sweetly' in the higher note! would love to hear a full duet with her in that key
It blew my mind that they bake a pie in the lobby of the theatre for every show!!! I definitely smelled it when I saw the show last week! Talking about an immersive theatre experience!!!

She has a beautiful voice....;) beautiful duet.....
Happy from Evanston, Illinois to see more of our peeps doing it!
Her dress! I love it!
This was the worlds most wholesome interview
I need this duet to be a complete song. Like...now.
I wish I could harmonize. How do people just do it on the spot like that? It blows my mind.
I felt the saaaaaame way like a year ago but if you just keep practicing, eventually you don't even have to think about it it'll come so naturally

it just flows outta you ☺ but it takes practice and vocal training
@@ayushibhanja but like....don't you need to find each note on a piano or do you genuinely just get the feel for it
She’s the best Carole King, what a talent!
She’s perfect! 😍
Love her...
'you don't even have to blow it, it just comes!'
OMG I LOVE HER
beautiful beautiful voice
God I love you Stephen, what a great show.
She is amazing and sweet:)
Love hearing when people are from the Chicagoland area!! Represent!
Will you still love me tomorrow is the most depressing and beautiful song I know. I first heard it in the movie filth and it just breaks my heart every time I hear it
The same marketing tactic can be used to promote the play, "Titus Andronicus."
+Buenomars you win.
+Buenomars Damn, you beat me to it... Kudos.
Hopefully the tactic isn't used for Sweeney Todd...
Margo McCready oh god lmaooo
She is such a wonderful human! What a lovely interview :)
Jessie Mueller.......and Carol King, what a great song, what great songs
Pecan pie is the world's best pie.
What's even better is coconut pecan pie
+GetShrektMrKrabs I don't want Earl's baby pie
When I worked at Village Inn, the most popular was cherry pie.
Earl sucks. And we all hate him
Betrayed by my Eggs Pie
OMG as a dirty minded male I wasn't even there that I missed the joke the first time...... Had to rewind... I was just happy to be here!
I love Jesse so much just her attitude in general and she is so incredibly talented and I also loved her dress and how it seems that she didn't dress a certain way to cater to anyone else's preference except her own
True talent!
I love this. I love Jessie!!

”Do you like human beings” - Stephen Colbert 2016
Im normal a heavy metal N classic guy but this where actually pretty beautiful well done Steven and Jessie 👏🏻👍🏻
I absolutely love her! She’s so beautiful and very normal. She’s such a normal sized human too. Not ridiculously skinny like some actresses. It’s pretty refreshing. And... “they don’t even have to blow it, it just comes.” She cracked me up!!!
You know there's cues when the audience claps 30 seconds later
"She's a 100 and one hit wonder" 🤣
They should have sung more!
She's great!
michael scott is in the audience spazzing
"that's what she said"
Are we not going to mention how surprisingly good his voice was?
She's so great
Is everyone just going to ignore "you don't even have to blow it, it just comes!"
When the piano twinkles at 4:53..
She is so cute!!
I wish they sang more!
I love jessi mueller
that was so sweet
She is lovely
1:47 KEKEKEKEKE SKSKSKSKSKS BAHAHAHAHHAH... oh god I’m so immature 🤦🏻♂️

Those harmonies doe.
JESSIE!
They don't blow it, it comes
2:23 he used his hands to place the pie on the plate and gives it to her...
Allyanna laurel i thought i was the only one who noticed him palming that pie. Lol
Stephen can saaang!
Stephen has the rare talent of being able to flirt without being gross, Jessie is just rare talent, period.
Love Stephen completely! We need you Stephen...like we needed Johnny. ps...your amazing humor helps me survive Trump.
I really wish Colbert had the time and freedom to do a show a bit more like Graham Norton's. We want more.
Anybody here a fan of my favorite pie 'Shoofly Pie' mmmmm, that molasses.
She's so pretty.
not gonna lie, ive heard jessie's rendition of "she used to be mine" at the tonys and i wasn't a fan of her singing voice bc something seemed off about her tone and it sounded like she had some type of accent but im in love with her acting and her personality here which im seeing for the first time here (also, her singing voice is amazing and powerful dont come at me theater nerds)
She had a southern accent and laryngitis during the Tonys performance
I watched the whole thing before commenting. yes.
