Great video. Exactly what I was looking for as I'm rolling a prot warrior. Only level 55 but I can solo most dungeons for that level. Just sucks once I get into mop boa with all the enchants on them become useless and I'll be a noon tank. But with the timeless will be easy to gear and as you said other other video. How easy the "legendary" cloak is to get, I'll hopefully be tanking with another yet another 90. Hope to see more videos from you, they are really good and I will be subscribing.
Also glyph of shield slam thing that increases its damage when shield block is up also generates extra rage from shield slam, unlike glyph of revenge. Few inconsistencies.
Could you please do a video on your add-on's you use for tanking, or in general - I love your UI :D I digress, this was a great video, and gave heaps of good tips, cheers man!
super cool Protection Warrior tanking guide but I miss any macros I am new as Protection Warrior has ik so much Styer on it with macros for Protection Warrior so vile be really great if you show any macros :)
Use it when you have 60 rage preferably but if you need a bit of mitigation and only have say, 30 rage go for it. and on the topic of vengeance you generate rage so quickly that you can basically ignore your vengeance, but make sure to track your vengeance to see how much your SBars are absorbing. :)
ehm one thing, this is what expertise is exsactly according to wowwiki: Expertise (also known as Exp and Ept) is an attribute introduced in Patch 2.3.0. One point of expertise decreases the chance that melee attacks made by the player will be dodged or parried by 0.25%. At level 80, every 7.688690185546875 points of expertise rating grant 1 expertise., if you read it carefully you will notice that it says " attacks made by the player will be.. blablabla".. that means that it has no effect on non player characters.. aka mobs, bosses, it seems to be a misconception that expertise is a pve stat too, just thought i would point out that it is not correct from what i see.
It does affect non-players mobs, if you are expertise capped no attacks will be dodged/parried this is why perhaps when you are leveling certain attacks will be dodged or parried because stats are scarce at those levels. This is why tanks need 15% exp and dps only need 7.5% because at 7.5% no attacks can be dodged but can still be parried, however being behind the boss eliminates this issue, but as a tank, you are obviously in front of the boss a lot more necessitating more expertise. It can be a bit confusing reading tool-tips, what with absurd numbers such as mentioned in your comment. TL;DR it does affect PvE mobs but its gone in warlords so whatever! :)
WHAT ARE YOU SAYING??? full crit? No. Mastery > parry and dodge? No. Stamina > hit 7.5% and expertise 15% > parry = dodge and then mastery. Just use shield block you block everything.
Dude i have 3 way's u can gem as a prot warrior thats what he is saying. Build 1 = Full Critical Strike, This will make you DPS insane and u get rage shitloads. ( Down side = u take shitloads DMG so bad survivability.) Build 2 = Full Mastery , This will make your shield Block to block shtloads dmg. Build 3 = Parry + Dodge full avoidance, this will Smooth out ya DMG income for the most like for reall and shieldblock isnt used alot in SOO most bosses use Magic DMG and Shield Barrier will absorb magic DMG shield block wont. And whenever u parry or dodge you gain a Self-Buff Riposite wich give u 75% crit gain for the amount parry'd or dodged this is insane and when u have this buff u crit alot more. Wich makes ya spels crit and a crit = Enrage will proc another selfbuff wich means u gain 10 rage more from each spell. Thats what he is saying and Build 3 is the way to go to be honest u can easy maintain to keep Enrage + Riposite up and full shieldbarrier spam ;) u will smooth out shitloads dmg and do shitloads dmg yaself. Hope u understand it now lol and yes ofcourse 15% exp 7.5% hit obviously =.= *facepalm* for u asking @ comment
Martin Gladdines I was mainly quizzical as he basically reported back exactly what i was saying in the guide, i wasn't arguing the validity of what he was saying. he also said 'just use shield block to block everything' which obviously is just plain wrong.
Dude i know where Mass spell reflection is usefull for as a tank. Norushen LFR - Flex - Normall - Heroic...... u have 2 spellreflects then as a tank not sharing CD. When u enter the golden Orb and u face the big add u need to survive u can actually kill it as a warrior and be out wayway sooner to maintain dps on the boss wich helps te raid. The trick is : Inside this golden orb the mini boss will cast HURL OF CORRUPTION! every tank need to interupt this.....Except Warrior! U can do massspell reflect and he hits himself 500k till 1,5mill And at the next Hurl u can use ya Single spell reflect u always have. And next one Mass again so u can always reflect this dmg its way more usefull then Pummel interupting it is such a DPS waste for a warrior use ya spells properly the only tank who can use it against the big add so use it :P Hope this was helpfull since u asked dunno where massspell is helpfull at well it is v usefull at this one boss
Sure you can use it there but i find disrupting shout more useful on norushen as i spend most of my time out of the golden orb phase and so can interrupt the small adds without the dps needing to worry about it as much (lets be honest there's not much else to do on that fight anyway). Also i dont find that add up too long that i NEED to squeeze every last bit of dps out that i can, off the top of my head he's pretty much down when he's casting the second hurl corruption. But indeed you can pick mass spell reflect and actually use it on this encounter.
During HC progression some guilds have let shamans to go enrage, only to mass spell reflect/spell reflect Kardris in Dark Shamans encounter to kill them ^^
True, but if you take all the damage that Bloodbath does during it's entire duration it's usually more than Storm Bolt, but if you prefer Storm Bolt, by all means use it, the difference in dps really isn't too different :)
Tankcast Storm bolt is good for aggro. At the begging of the fight you need to gain aggro, and the best way to begin it is Shattering Throw (before taunt, for MDPS) > Taunt > Storm bolt > Dragon roar. You can't lose aggro from anyone if you do this on start of the encounter and on every tank swap. I however find Bloodbath occasional and would put Avatar as default if you have no problems with aggro.
DON Marcus It's true that storm bolt gives a whole load of burst threat but tbh it's not necessary; if you just charge in hit shield slam and a few devastates the boss would be glued to you. I've been in raids where 17+ dps are pulling 800k+ dps on the pull and was never concerned about threat, in that case the people whom i was concerned about pulling threat were all MDing the threat to me. A hunter who doesn't use MD probably will never over-aggro for example.
Tankcast If you lose aggro to DPS that means you're doing something seriously wrong even with lower gear, what happens is that you lose aggro to the other tank because he has too much vengeance comparing to you. For example if you're not tanking adds on HC Immerseus other tank will be doing a lot of damage near the boss, and considering that you can't hit him a lot because you'll get a loads of stacks it's best to use something from what you can get most aggro not getting more than 3-4 stacks (Storm Bolt, Shield Slam and Dragon Roar - before adds come).
This is going to sound fucking horrific but can you write me a written tutorial on basic tanking? and by basic I mean basic. As in, I've never leveled tank before and I just dinged 15.
Like tanking concepts that apply for any tanking class? And also do you mind if i present it in video format? i personally find it a lot easier to explain by speaking about the topic if not i can still definitely do it :)
Rolls Reus At lower levels nobody is going to expect you to hold agro on multiple mobs, so just try to keep one or two on you. Once you get your AoE ability, begin by just running through the mobs, gathering them up (if your DPS is taking them from you at this point then go ahead and yell at them). After you've got them all, use your AoE ability whenever it's up and you'll hold the agro. 'Tis that simple. c:
Run a lot of PUG dungeons. Pugs do some of the most ridiculous things in dungeons and learning how to recover from such things will make you a much better tank in the long run. When you're first starting you want to approach tanking in a conservative and safe way (i.e., pulling a few mobs at a time and increasing the pulls as your confidence grows). Learn the proper way to tank first. Standard positioning (Back of mobs facing dps for easy accessibility for dps as well as giving you better positioning to watch what the npcs are doing thus giving you cleaner and quicker taunts). Eventually you'll hit a point where it won't matter if dps pulls a mob or group of mobs before you, and whether a pet pulls aggro off of you because you'll be that confident in your skills and understand how threat and survivability works. If you're playing a warrior, you're in for a ride, especially with AOE tanking. If you mess up AOE tanking on a warrior, you're going to pay for that mistake. Master a warrior tank you can master any tanking class with ease. Keep your chin up and try your best! For a little while it's going to be tough but there's light at the end of the tunnel! You'll notice that in the end you'll be that much better of a tank. When you get your first "Good Tank" from pugs you'll know you're doing great as a tank!
People always say enraged regen, but if your defences are decent, second wind makes you almost immortal. Once you fall into the 30% range, enemies almost can't make your HP move any further.
HP is too spiky in MoP for second wind to ever be useful for a tank; the time in which you spend at low %HP is just too small, you get hardly any ticks of SW, for soloing, sure it's potentially better than ER but when you have a healer healing you past 35% before second wind has a chance to tick just makes it useless
Great video. Exactly what I was looking for as I'm rolling a prot warrior. Only level 55 but I can solo most dungeons for that level. I agree
They should change the Bladestorm into a Shield storm if you are in Prot spec. You just constantly bash with your shield for 6 sec. Would be fun.

Thanks for the feedback! and definitely, i've been working on a UI video and if everything goes to plan it should be up in a while! :)
It's preach ui. Look at his page
i was gone for a month and i just came back to wow and did an LFR run and for some reason i cant keep aggro for shit and cant figure out why.
The music is awesome

when using shield barrier is it better to use it at 60 rage? or is it best to use it when your vengance is high or something along those lines
Use it when you have 60 rage preferably but if you need a bit of mitigation and only have say, 30 rage go for it. and on the topic of vengeance you generate rage so quickly that you can basically ignore your vengeance, but make sure to track your vengeance to see how much your SBars are absorbing. :)
The only encounter where Second Wind is useful in SOO is on Malkorok if you manage to get below 33% health. Then it gets pretty good.
for the miasma phase certainly! hadn't thought about that one :)

Mass spell ref essentially gives you another spell ref, good for spell dam intensive fights, you forgot to mention
Mass Sepll/Spell Ref dont share cds

What unit frames are you using?
The addon is called Pitbull unitframes. I have a video showing how to install various elements of my UI here: Tanking UI Tutorial Hope it helps! :)
PhraaxEU This is essentially a direct copy from Preach Gaming is it not?
Spencer Waizecker Essentially yes, I did say that in the video I linked.
garrosh = bladestorm all the way
BS & Bloodbath = Many spins, much bleed, such DPS, wow.
i like storm bolt in raiding because 500% dmg of your weapon if you cant stun the target i always hit 300k+ dmg

You don't learn anything about tanking until you hit catadungeons, even then it's still bad as you faceroll everything as everyone has heirlooms.
i reemmber there was an old warrior glyph that's something like shouting vulgarities at ur target LMAO . cant remember the name LOLOOLOL
isnt stormbolt better ?

awefully distracting music, couldnt even watch it till the end
