I agree with you 100%. I think drivers should refuse to drive a truck with a driver facing camera. We need to end this now!

I Hot shot for a buddy of mine part time. He recently installed a driver facing camera in his Truck.
I refused the load, until he allowed me to turn it off.
Still had forward camera on with a load that needed to deliver ASAP.
Told him call' em and tell them that it's going to take just a little bit longer tonight.
He called me an hour later and said turn it off and do what we usually do.😂
As drivers, we allowed this to happen. The new guys coming in have to deal with itfrom day 1 and accept it as normal.
I got off the road in 07 before any of this started. When they took our fuzz busters, and tried to take the C.B.s i knew we were going down a dead end road with no place to turn around😢

Imagine having to pull over every time you need to take a drink of water to avoid having the camera activate.

The company I work for has them they can’t get new drivers but they don’t care they just get carriers to haul there gasoline . But they also have those collision avoidance system I hate that too . But it’s hard to walk away with Friday Saturday and Sunday off and six weeks off a year but next spring I just might have to .

I 100% agree with you on this. I have experienced the collision avoidance system slamming the brakes going under bridges or a motorist cutting across the nose not the truck setting it off. On of my worries is that it would cause someone to go under or hit the back of the trailer or worse jack knife the truck in bad weather. It's bad enough the truck was speed restricted which caused another set of problems for example like being a hazard to 80+ mph rush hour traffic. I think there is a push to make the U.S. trucking industry to mirror that of Europe. Seems like every time Europe dose something there is someone who thinks it will work in the U.S. Cameras do serve a purpose but not in an invasive way. Like you said, some of this stuff is tested on simi / class 8 trucks first then pass on into personal vehicles.

I deliver fertilizer during spring seeding, just this year (spring 2024) they decided on driver facing camera's. It's a temporary job and that annoyed me seeing as they have never had issues with seasonal drivers. I won't go back if they keep those camera's and many other drivers are saying the same thing

I’m at JB Hunt, we have driver facing cameras. It’s AI driven, but it doesn’t bother me much. I’m more irritated by the right hand sensor that ALWAYS go off for anything. I also make over $100k/year, otherwise I would’ve left already.

I just got fired from a biz with cams, for doing what I thought to be the safest option.....
I keep my phone/gps on a magnet mount on the dash.
I hit a bump that was stronger than the magnet and the phone hit the floor and slid under my feet.
I scooted the phone out of its bad location, picked it up, re-centered the gps, and placed it on the magnet. It is my opinion that I was safer without the phone under my feet/pedals than to take five seconds and put it back in its proper place.
Company says that by touching the phone while the truck was moving, it was a violation of company safety policy, even if what I did was the safest option.
But, without me, they saving a little pocket change... I'm sixty-two, been there eight years, and was at the top of the driver pay scale. Now they can bring in a new guy an pay them ten dollars an hour less. And a much younger employee will help their health insurance prices go down a bit.
So, now, it's the day before Thanksgiving, I'm an old guy with 40 plus years seat time, and I'm looking for a job.
Happy Thanksgiving? Not in my house this year.....

If a driver is doing what they are supposed to be doing, then you have nothing to worry about. I'm a jb Hunt driver and I had concerns. Just be a professional driver and you have nothing to worry about

You sound like a liberal. To want a camera facing you in your personal vehicle. Not a chance in hell with me
