Oh my god. This is the first time i hear him speak in his accent and i'm overwhelmed! My favourite character on the show!
Yes, he is even more adorable!
I love that Matthew gave his jacket to Sally, who was obviously cold. He's such a gentleman!
Matthew is so beautiful When he smiles, his eyes light up
Oh baby! I knew Matthew was from Wales but I have never heard him speak in his natural accent. How I love it!!
The accent and the voice just makes you like him.
Phwoar!!!!...I love him no matter what accent he's using...what a gorgeous funny delightful man.....yumm....
God I love him. He's my favorite character!!
Rachel Griffith and Matthew Rhys really shocked me with their original accents, the two picked up American accent really well
I miss that SHOW SO MUCH :(
He's lovely.
haha lol love the accent matthew soo cute!! im a sucker for the welsh accent being part welsh myself its probably why i love it soo much.
LOVE him!!!
Nice interview :)
I agree with the points about him having a Welsh accent. There's no such thing as a 'British' accent really , because the differences of accent within the UK are significant.
Having said that, British people would say "American" accent, even though Americans sound very different in South Carolina to what they do Boston. So everyone everywhere is sometimes to blame for generalizing!!
Oh God. He has an accent. I've fallen. I was trying not to, but nope. Fallen
It is A British accent, one of many, many British accents so it is correct, but it would be MORE correct and more specific to call it a WELSH accent.
But even in Wales, accents are so diverse (I know this comment is from 12 years ago). A Gog sounds very similar to a Scouser and nothing like a Taff, which is what Matthew (broadly speaking) is.
@@henrythomasbarthram6065 I am Welsh, obviously. Not a lot of people would call themselves 'a Taff'.
Welsh accent. But, whatever. Love.
Welsh is British.
@@canuck21 no it isn't..he is from Wales so he has a Welsh accent there is no such thing as a British accent as great Britain consists of four countries..
@@kimmarievan-ever6599 It's true that there is not really a British accent, but often times people say British accent as a general term for whatever accent that is in Britain whether it's English, Welsh, Scottish or Irish.
@@canuck21 yes ..I'm a bit precious about this as i am half Welsh..😂 the other half is American .
Diolch yn fawr iawn..( thank you very much)..
Nos da..
canuck21 No, when most Americans mistakenly use the term British accent they are actually thinking of someone who is English.
agreed!!
My god is SO much hotter with that accent!
His accent is so sexy!!
People saying that there's only three types of a British accent?? What about people up in London, Bristol, Manchester, Birmingham, etc? All sound quite different.
wow I'm so used to him doing the American accent, it's like his real accent is fake
aw thats cute i think matthew gave his coat to sally
00:25 he is foreshadowing his role in the Americans 🧐😂
@ClicWProductions Of course he has a British accent - Wales is a part of Britain. There are dozens of British accents.
@stefabang Yeah, agreed. I'd say he's got a Welsh accent rather than a British one, just as one is more likely to say that someone has got a Scottish accent (even though it is still British). What I meant is that it is incorrect to state that he HASN'T got a British accent!
Must you be a jerk? We know Great Britian is England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. That was made very clear to me over 60 years ago in grade school geography. You brits assume Americans are ignorant, but you are just as ignorant about us. I am from Georgia, USA and my fist trip to London, England many years ago a person asked me if I lived near Connecticut where they had cousins. Another person asked if I lived near California. Only one person realized I had a southern accent. He knew because his son had been a professor at the University of Georgia and he had visited him
He looks the same in the Americans. He does not age it seems
He is Welsh.
@ZacHeartVanessa no, I don't expect everyone to know details of accents. But I also don't expect people to casually lump people, languages, identities, cultures, histories, etc all together and pretend like they are the same thing and interchangeable. And how is it fair that you get to show off your ignorance of the ethnic cultures of the British Isles but I can't show my knowledge of it?
In fact there are loads of Welsh accents too. North Walians sound scouse.
@chloeroper1 britain doesnt contain northern ireand! i used to get confused the difference between the uk and britain but Britain is scotland wales england. the uk includes northern ireland not ireland as N.ireland is under the monarchy
Is there a episode on brothers & Sisters you can hear his accent?
When Ida finds out he's gay and he says "I am I am"
@ClicWProductions It is fair to say he's got a British accent but he might be offended if you said it was English.
Before the veneers
i know, right? I actually like his real teeth better. His veneers seen in "The Americans" seem to me to be too long, too bright white and too big. Just my opinion.
1:04 you're welcome
His accent changed through the years. It was a bit more posh here
@cashernandes1 Um, no. Actually there is no such thing as a "British" accent. There isn't even really a such thing as an "English" accent. There's cockney (spoken in the London region), scouse (spoken in Liverpool), geordie (spoken in Newcastle), and a whole range of very different accents, which sound wildly different from each other and are very distinct. Matthew Rhys is Welsh, and speaks with a South Wales accent. It is NOT correct to call his accent BRITISH.
He's from Cardiff. People from cardiff don't have very strong welsh accents
@cashernandes1 well yeah but its like saying so and so has an american accent and america has a vast number of very differnt accents. there's no such thing as a british accent. britain includes wales england scotland and northern ireland in which are completely different accents.
@cashernandes1 its like saying he has a european accent. all the parts that make up europe are so diverse and different the same as the differences atleast in accent as scotlannd wales england so.. whilst it would be right to say he's from britain there is no such thing as a british accent
saying he has a welsh accent is like saying a northern irish accent is british, get ur facts straight, they sound nothing alike
@Kuunz420 And that fact that you're from Britain and I'm not doesn't make me any less capable of discussing this. Otherwise, how could we describe something that comes from Africa as "African" even though we're not from this continent? "African Portuguese" doesn't help much, we'd rather say someone has an Angolan accent. Still, it doesn't make it wrong. And you guys are saying that a Welsh accent is not a British accent, and THAT's incorrect, though it's not as clear as saying Welsh.
@razmataz13drums Yes, I know. See my answer to stefabang.
@ClicWProductions If he has a Welsh accent then it is perfectly correct to assert that he has a BRITISH accent. Britain includes Wales.
first!! i dont get why accent is a tag !!!!!
@Kuunz420 Funny for a person whose mother-tongue is supposedly English to constantly make spelling mistakes, such as the ones in "there accent to there neighbours". THEIR accent and THEIR neighbours, silly. I guess if you can't even get THAT right you're not in the slightest qualified to debate this ultimately irrelevant subject. And it doesn't seem an awful lot of people disagree with me, quite the contrary... lol
@artsyfartsyLAD Oh, really? So if you're born in Britain, what kind of accent would that be? Asian?
He is starting to lose his accent
Then luckly auditioned to play a fake American.
he doesnt have a strong welsh accent, so i dont know why people are complaining
@Kuunz420 I know there is no such thing as "British accent". But you can call it British. As I said before, it's much more appropriate to call it Welsh of course, but it doesn't mean it's not British. Following the same lines we could never say someone has a Brazilian accent as opposed to a European one. Or take German and Swiss German. Ignorance? Funny for a BRITON to assert that whatever comes from Wales is not British...
