Title aside, your perspective on this situation is very insightful, Myke. Great adivce.
As you said, there is no shelf life for grief. I lost my mother last year and I can say personally grief is a terribly complex emotion. It can invoke even in the most scientific man almost childish levels of metaphysical attachment. To be clear I am not saying a person who is moved by the metaphysical is childish, I am one of them for instance. I was just taking a walk and I'm having a tough day. I saw a cloud that looked like a dragon breathing fire, and because I'm wearing a game of thrones shirt the idea came to mind that my mom was talking to me and I started to cry a bit. Grief will completely change your entire perspective when it is profound, so if the gentleman is reading this just understand that it's totally ok to be confused about your ethics. As Myke said this does have other consequences that don't have to do with you, obviously meaning your girlfriend, but I don't think your being selfish at all if you are having a hard time ending it. With that being said you still need to end it if that is in fact on the table. It's real heavy stuff man and there's really no proper way to understand any of it. Don't beat yourself up, and love as many people as you can. As my man Chuck Bukowski once put it, the fact that we're all going to die should be enough reason for us to care about each other, sadly we fail to do this constantly. In the same vain, the fact we can sympathize with each other's grief should be enough for us to be decent to each other. So from one grieving, confused, deeply flawed human to another, I love you man. I don't even know if this is that coherent, and honestly I'm just talking about myself because it's helping me get through some real sadness right now. I also just moved to Arizona to get my masters so I don't have a lot of people hear yet that I can confide in so I'll confide in y'all. Thanks for the video Myke, and I hope your having a pleasant day.

Dear Fred, you dont know how much I actually get you man its crazy. Ive fell in love for the TWIN SISTER of the girl I was hooking up, thats it, pretty simple, also pretty crazy, cliche, weird whatever you wanna call it. It happened. We've talked, she was in love with me too, we starting dating and now were in an AMAZING relationship, for real. But I would be lying if I didnt mention the awful sides on this relationship, and what are they? Exactly what you feel dude, family, friends, other people related. Someone here on the comment section commented on the EXPECTATION other people have, thats a very good way to sum up everything thats actually bad or harmful to me or my girlfriend, we are an amazing couple and love eachother so bad, but our relationship was born in such a fkin weird time and chain of events man. So I trully do feel you my dude, have some conversations with your girl, make sure she feels this way too, that if there are some issues in your relationship it stems from all this bullshit surrounding people that dont know how you both feel and how much you both make each other happy!
Thats all I wanna say, I really wish I could sit with you and have a conversation, sorry if thats weird af I just feel we can relate so much.

While I don't think there is anything wrong with dating your dead friends sibling if there is genuine feelings involved I do feel like it is doomed to be dysfunctional, especially if there is the extra baggage of you having had feelings for the deceased. I'm not saying it can't work, or that you shouldn't try, just in general it sounds like it is gonna be difficult because of the context.

Personally, if you're interested, a deceased friend can't provide consent to your relationship anyways. Just make sure it's not love formed only from sadness

If "Fred" is reading this: My advice is for you to decrease any type of expectations you have from anyone, especially your girl's family. As long as you're happy and making her happy as well, you have nothing to feel guilty about. Those feelings of "guilt" are surely brought up in your head *because* of these family gatherings, and by eliminating these outside elements and focusing on your relationship and nothing else, you'll feel so much better. Just have the mindset that they're going to think what they think regardless if you stay with your girl or not, so it doesn't even matter what you do 'cause you can't change their minds. Therefore, who cares what they think. You've done nothing wrong, and you should find time to be alone and practice a way to accept that as a fact. Hope this helps.

I'd say, it'll be extremely uncomfortable, but just tell the woman that you're with now how you felt about her sister (if she doesn't already know) and how you feel awkward in family functions and things of the sort. And from there hopefully a nice organic conversation will sprout and you'll get to the root of things.
