Thanks for the tutorial. I thought forestry would be boring but have given it a go in "no mans land." Starting with a chainsaw, tractor and Lizard logging trailer making 50k a day. Soon bought a second trailer and the 70k 3-point tree feller for my tractor. Now making 150k a a day. bought additional plots and planted new forests. Now looking to invest in specialist logging plant. this video was very helpful in fueling my addiction. :-)
I love the forestry element in the game as I am not a farmer so this is a lot easier for me to grasp and be profitable. Thank you for the information and would also love to see a Platinum DLC version as well. Thank you 🤘
This is an amazing tutorial for me. Thanks for the guide video!! I will definitely be using it for my new playthrough. Previously i couldnt figure out what was good to use and had no idea that harvester cannot cut oaks/american elm down..and i gave up after spending too much money on equipment. 😂 This time i feel more confident after watch urs. Thanks again!
You make picking logs up so easy I gave it a go for a good 10 min then just slapped that crazy Prinoth M650 on the back of a tracked 1167 and back down the tree line in about 30 seconds haha
I really like this video and it was very helpful. And I really like that map because it's Finland map 🎉 🇫🇮🇫🇮👍. Very good video and also thanks to use rotne😊
would like to see more tutorial, or tips and tricks to control wood for dangle processor head. its hard to keep neat and tidy piles. or sharing your setting for wood harvester control mod
If you haven't, you can check out my Platinum Edition tutorial where I use the dangle processor and explain the steps I take. For these videos, I didn't use the mod 'Wood Harvester Controls,' but when I do use it, the only settings I use are Rotator mode - Physical and Saw mode - Manual Cut. Other than that, the rest is as the base game intended. 😁
What length were you cutting them? Appreciate the walk thru on this. I get tired of farming then I go to try forestry and than quit cause I get frustrated but now I’m more eager to give it another shot with the tutorial you put together.
Thanks! 😁 For 6m logs, you can use either the Ponsse or Rottne forwarder. I personally prefer the Rottne as its grapple feels stronger compared to the Ponsse. I will if enough people find this video helpful. 😄
man you can tell you do this a lot or you are used to using equipment in real life. you're awesome. I'm still trying to get all the controls down. definitely takes getting used to. Do you prefer the in game equipment or the FDR mod equipment? I really like the buncher with FDR but i feel like the processor head always acts very weird and fidgety to me. I also can seem to find a keybind to put on my joystick to actually cut the logs to length. I have to reach up and hit "x" on the keyboard every time which annoys me while trying to do everything via the joysticks. Any advice on that?
I just do it a lot. 😅 I have to admit that for FS22, I haven't really used FDR's equipment much. My latest video was actually my first time running his Buncher in FS22. I did, however, use a Highcab of his before the Platinum Edition was released. But with the new weight changes to his mods, they feel quite good. Have you mapped 'Tool Function 2' (I think it is) to the button you want to use for processing? 😄
Hello, watching your videos makes you want to do forestry so much, but every time I try, it's too hard to control the equipment (harvester, loader...). I play with a G920 and the logitech farming panel. I understand that you use T.16000M joysticks, is it easy to use? And could you make a video on "how to set them up"? Thanks for the quality of the videos!
Yeah, I think it's much easier compared to using a mouse and keyboard! But it's still something you need to get used to, unless you're familiar with operating joysticks from real-life machinery. Setup-wise, they are exactly like the farming panel, plug and play. You simply just connect the USB, and then they work. You might have to change some bindings to your own liking, but yeah. 😄 On my Discord, you can find my keybindings under the pinned messages in the FS22 media channel. 😁
I've posted a picture of my controls on Discord (link in description). You can find it in the pinned messages in the media channel. 😁 But it's basically ISO controls for excavators. 😄
Yeah, I would use easy arm control, especially when operating tree harvesters. 😄 But I'm not sure it makes a world of difference for forwarders and wood cranes though.
Yo wsp, love fs22, i play with the ponsse scorpion king and then forwarder ponsse elephant king and when i use forwarder the trees lag very much like when i take 2-3 trees they all go wobbly and shit. tips?
I think it's due to the amount of weight in the grapple. The Ponsse feels a bit underpowered compared to the Komatsu or even the Rottne forwarder in this regard. Other than that, there is not much to be done about it, other than only picking up what the grapple is comfortable with. 😄
Hehe, yes, that happens now and then. 😄 Be careful not to force the header into the tree when cutting. Also, use the swing of your boom arm to help guide the fall if needed. 😁
@@Bambis_GamerHut I hope you dont mind me asking a few more questions. I really like Holmkråka, and i want to make it work but the damn trees makes it so difficult at times. I have managed to get a good production going with the old/huge spruce trees. I did find the Rottne forwarder was the only one who could manage the weight of the logs. Now i wanted to practice your harvester technique on the smaller/younger spruce trees, but they driving me insane (I thought it would be much easier to handle them). I am using you setup here, one with a flexbunk forwarder. I have several challenges. First off, if i drive my 24t harvester over a small cut log my mistake, the whole harvester could end of shaking. Second, trying to pick up the smaller logs are a nightmare, the grapple wont cover them very well, so they just split and try to slide out. Third, when i do get them into the bunk, they just slide around everywhere, I know i must use the belts, but come on game. Fourth, unloading, filling my grapple full just makes the whole harvester shake until logs are flying off the grapple. Are these common problems? Thanks.
Ah yes, the young trees. 😅 Yes, they will tease you now and then, that's for sure. I cut down a bunch in the very first Holmåkra episode. Even with the mod Wood Harvester Controls, some of the trees seemed to have a life of their own, hehe. What helped me was using WHC and then slowly activating the rollers to guide the fall of the trees. You always want to avoid driving over stumps and logs as this will make any machinery jumpy. I agree that small logs can be a nightmare. More often than not, I actually leave them to be grinded when I go in to remove the stumps anyway. This also helps with stability both when loading forwarders and making piles of logs. (Plus, those small pieces really don't add any profit.) Straps are 100% needed when forwarding, the logs will slide and move around. Unfortunately, nothing can be done to prevent that, unless you only load up large logs, like the first 10-15 meters of a tree. Last but not least, don't grab too many trees at a time. If you grab too many, you will experience crane shaking as you describe. It's better to just grab what is comfortable and then do it a few more times, rather than having to spend time cleaning up all the logs exploding out of the grapple. So yes, unfortunately, these are all common problems, but you can avoid them or mitigate them using the tips above. I hope it make sense! And feel free to question me any time. 😁😄
I personally think the best two tree types are Spruce and Lodgepole Pine from the Platinum DLC. Now, I don't know if these are the best trees in terms of profitability, but they are easy to handle with machinery. 😄 Also, if you're planting trees for harvest, make sure you only plant conifer trees. Otherwise, you're going to spend a lot of time with the chainsaw. 😅
I try to guide the fall with the crane arm and by positioning the processor head correctly. Sometimes, it happens that the tree will still turn a little while cutting it into logs. When this happens, I try to use the environment to guide it back in place. 😄
I think the cheapest joystick is the Logitech Extreme3D, which is perfectly fine. I used two of those for a long time before switching to the dual Thrustmaster.😁
Would love to see a platinum dlc tutorial!

Yea, it's a setting in-game. Can't remember exactly what it says, ''automatically cut tree' or something like that. But you can turn it on and off. 😄
