Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 жов 2024
- In this Video we finally reach the end of the 7.25" Gauge Steam Locomotive handbrake build part of the project. I make the bolts/pins to replace the nuts and bolts in the assembly of the brake set up. So an afternoon on the Harrison Lathe sorts this issue out which has been mentioned by a few of the fantastic subscribers of the channel. Now the brakes are done.... where shall we go next?!?

Matt.
It’s coming along nicely mate 👏👏
You’ve got the ‘stopping bits’ knocked… now to get stuck into the ‘going bits’
🤣🤣
Regards
Robert
Hi Robert, Yes! We are finally onto the good stuff, only taken 49 episodes!! Can't wait to get this in steam, hopefully I'll make a good job of it!! All the best, Matt 👍
Matt, we should all be concerned about our nuts. Men’s health is an important subject
Paul, Absolutely, we don't want them to fall off in transit. All joking aside yes Men's health is very important, I myself have been on a little mission to loose a few pounds and do a little more exercise, I noted in the videos when I edited them I was looking a little bigger than I imagined! All the best, Matt 👍
nice one Matt
some people always have to chime in when a jobs only half done. !!!🤣🤣 can't help themselves
I'm just making some cylinders from solid C Iron for my SP
Something to get your teeth in to there.
Laterzzzzzzzzzzz👍👍👍👍👍👍
Kev
Now then Kev, this is true, but sometimes they do say things we may have forgotten so it's always constructive feedback, which is great. I wish those that clicked the dislike button were forced to explain why they hit that button, always annoying. Well I look forward to seeing those videos on you SP build. Mine are some huge castings, probably not the best idea to start with for a first build 😂. All the best, Matt 👍
Good episode, I could watch you drink tea all day long. 🚂
Thanks Alan, Wouldn't get much done on the steam engine if I did that 😂. All the best, Matt 👍
1:46 😮 With @B😊londihacks as my main frame of reference, I occasionally have to remind myself that you **have** one of them big boi lathes, and therefore can take: big boi cuts 😂
I could probably have taken more off at a time, suppose to be able to cut up to 2mm depth on them carbide tips. All the best, Matt 👍
Hi Matt. The little engine is looking good.
Thanks RB, we are slowly getting there aren't we, next we shall get on with getting it to move!! All the best, Matt👍
Looking forward to the next phase of the build. FWIW, I would have cross drilled those pins and used castle nuts and cotter pins to ensure they never back out.
Or just use a Nyloc.
@@union310 I would trust a castle nut and cotter pin over a nyloc any day of the week.
I'll be stripping it down for painting, so no point doing this until its reassembled all in future episodes 😉. All the best, Matt 👍
Just subscribed, ill be keeping a close eye on the progress, great skills and good to see a local lad making these things. Keep it up buddy.
Hi, Thank you for the sub and the comments, it's very much appreciated. Aye your not far away from me! All the best, Matt 👍
Warning!! Stupid comment alert... Why not use bolts instead of set screws and use locknuts? Also, remind me to give you a Coventry die head and dies next time you call in - much easier! Another great informative video. Keep going! Grum
Grum, As your in the business of engineering this is a STUPID question! You can't get bolts with a plain shank this short, I went to all local suppliers and they all said no! I thought surely not, I'm sure Ive used them, I then thought sod it I'll make them, its all machining fun. Next stupid question, Locknuts, if I put the locknuts on now, I will have to replace them when I paint it all.... you will see further down the line!! What you should have asked is why didn't I use stainless...... as they have all got surface rust on now 🤦🏻♂️. All the best, Matt 👍
@@MattChiversWorkshop Should have asked me... We use lots of specials at work...
Maybe you should move closer to gods county then...... 😉
I'm looking forward to you getting into those cylinder blocks 👍
Great work as always Matt.
Hi Mark, hope you're well. Reading the comments I don't think you're the only one, I think all the boring stuff is done, maybe. Will be interesting to see peoples reactions to how I do it... they are huge!! All the best, Matt 👍
I am sorry to say I have not visited your channel for some time, due to my age and age-related problems, together with high heating costs during the recent winter. I am pleasantly surprised with the massive amount of work you have completed on your engine. I have started watching all the videos that I have missed and am rather enjoying myself so much so that I have started back on the finishing process on my 3.5" gauge Britannia. As a warning to yourself and your fellow patrons, please wear gloves when spray painting any part or parts of your models as I ignored all the warnings regarding toxic effects of various thinners and solvents and finished up with arthritis in both hands so bad that I could not use my machinery or even hold a screwdriver. No one was more surprised than me. So beware, be wearing gloves.
Looking forward to seeing you get into those cylinders. What will the final bore be?
Hi Owen, Thank you, the final bore will be 2.75inch. All the best, Matt 👍
Hi Matt. Just found your channel, I subbed and now looking forward to your completion of this loco and raising some steam down the tracks. Thanks for sharing
Thank You for the Sub, it is much appreciated. Current estimation is 2024 for first steam, but there is much to do between then and now. I also can't wait. All the best, Matt 👍
Gotta say i absolutely love the little showing at the end and i think i know exactly what they are. Very exciting stuff
Thank you, Reading the comments you're not the only one excited by that reveal. All the best, Matt 👍
👍 Great job. Just curious, are you following a set of plans for your steam engine or are you making this up as you go like I do for most of the things I build?🤔
Hi, The answer to this one is a yes and a no at the same time. I'm roughly following the Roger Marsh drawings for the Tinkerbell but with many modifications, I'm also using the running Tinkerbell Sian built by Steve Stockdale at Leyland SME as reference. A lot is made up from the pair of those. What's coming next in the videos is following Rod Burnley Drawings!! Would I do it like this again?? Probably not 😂. All the best, Matt 👍
Nice progress Matt might be an idea do drill n put a split pin In below the nuts to hold things in place
Or even a small groove for a circlip could work but definitely better to make a fixture and drill holes for split pins.
Or Nylocs?
Robert
Hi Gaga, what I may have failed to mention in the video, is the nuts are temporary until the chassis is painted, I intend on stripping it down before painting, so finished nuts will be covered in finishing of details of reconstruction. 😉 I can't show you everything.....just yet! All the best, Matt 👍
Just wondering why you bought cast cylinders Matt? I thought you might fabricate them (like Mr Crispin) instead.
Because iron cylinders are better.
Mr crispin has used a Mild steel block with cast iron liners, but don't forget he is making piston valve cylinders, I'm making slide valve cylinders. Hopefully the next episode will show how much work I've cut out by buying cast cylinders. All the best, Matt 👍
Nothing wrong with fabricated cylinders, as long as they have cast iron liners 😉. All the best, Matt
@@MattChiversWorkshop Different rates of material expansion cause issues in time.
Wear will causes issues overtime, there are no perfect solutions, but fabricated cylinders do exist, even on full size with no problem. All the best, Matt.
Drinking Tea! - ick - Drink some Coffee😄
Can't help it, e's bri'ish after all
Richard, unfortunately I can only have one coffee a day, I use to drink it all the time, I became an insomniac and it gave me chronic acid reflux.... I drank a lot!! I'll let you pretend I'm drinking Coffee from now on 😂... All the best, Matt👍
Moritz..... Cheeky!! I can't help where I was born I had no say 😂. All the best, Matt 👍
You got any 1 1/2 inch bar in that there workshop . Need about 6 inch
Who is that material request referring to? Mat Chivers or me?@@bigblue1402
New video from our machine shop. I stay away from this area of the factory. ua-cam.com/users/shorts1Fn6AvQHnYw
Which is you in the video?!? 😂
@@MattChiversWorkshop - there are big machines in there. Those guys are artists
@@MicrobyteAlan Yeah... but they are CNC... only as good as the programer inputting the data. Pretty cool stuff though, who wouldn't want a play with those!
@@MattChiversWorkshop - That’s why I watch you. I appreciate your skills.
@MicrobyteAlan thank you, that is very kind of you and much appreciated. It makes it very much worthwhile making the videos👍
