- Taylor Sheridan is a very talented writer, there is no doubt about that. But, he has also some major flaws that are likely to ruin his projects' future soon. What are some of the flaws that you noticed in Sheridan's writing?

Do you agree with our opinions on Sheridan’s shortcomings as a writer? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
He royally screwed up the entire near death scene of John D when helping the woman with a flat tire. The weapon in that truck would have cut him into tiny little pieces, let alone a silly cell phone stopping the bullet
Over loaded with EGO.
True
All the shows share him. That's what the problem is.
He never finishes a show but loved them alot😅
I agree ! I loved Yellowstone and the rest of his shows but, nothing ever gets finished! That’s cheating us in my opinion.
He finished 18-whatever prequel series
Seems like he was in the process of painting Yellowstone INTO A CORNER at end or middle of .season 5 !
I don't think Taylor knows how to finish WELL !?
Guess he gets paid for starting series!
Larry McMurtry could write a western, Lonesome Dove, Comanche Moon, Streets of Laredo, Buffalo Girls, Dead Man’s Walk. All great books made into movies and Lonesome Dove was the best western movie ever! I know Sheridan is writing series but you can’t help but loose interest and get frustrated and disappointed when they have so many breaks in between all of them. 1883 was the only one
I'm inclined to agree.
How long is Jamie gonna take abuse before he snaps or stands up for himself (apparently 5 years)? How long is Beth gonna set the world on fire and ruin people's lives without any of it catching up to her? How long is John gonna ignore the ever-changing world and pretend there's no other way to save the ranch besides keeping the status quo? How long must we sit through the whole Jamie vs Beth nonsense (which got old after Season 2)? How is it everyone who was dumped at the train station doesn't seem to have family or people they care about looking for them? And how many times are these cowboys and ranchers gonna cheat death in the face of all these hitmen and mercenaries?
This has all gone on WAY too long. All of this should've been resolved (or on their way to some form of resolution) some time ago. That's why I've always said the show started to peak in Season 4 and has been really subpar for most of Season 5.
After him screwing up Yellowstone, I’ll never watch anything he makes ! I’m done!!!
Sheridan is more Americana than Western...through that lens he makes more sense.
Im just gonna say it hell or high water and wind river both had major writing issues. Sheridan is a hack
Thank you, I've been saying this for a long time, his stuff is for 15year olds, the shows entertain for a while, but the dialogue and themes are repeated over and over, mayor of Kingstown is another example
Wait what? Best script writer of all time? What planet are you living on?
One of. To be fair he created some masterpieces. 1823 was fantastic I can rewatch that and it was done right as a prequel that only is 1 season a mini series. He also wrote Hell or Highwater which is a fantastic film I can rewatch that over and over which I do every few months. he wrote Sicario also fantastic. He's worked on a lot of greats. Yellowstone has a few flaws but the beginning few seasons before he started taking a lot of extra work was peak!
Bad dialogue. That's what they all share. There's little originality and a lot of the same reused lines in every other drama.
Another series he has not completed!!!!!! He is making a fortune but never finishing a project.....leaving viewers disappointed........wont watch another Sheridan project.
Wondered why so many sections with his horses for rent??? That seemed crazy in middle of a hit series!
Taylor Just need to put one thing in all his stores..A ENDING of some kind ..Of maybe a full season at least.
Hmm, I don't believe the things you don't like about Sheridan are "problems". They are tropes and they are very specific to Sheridan and can be traced all the way back to his first scripts for SICARIO and HELL AND HIGHWATER where these tropes were incredibly successful. It's a success that minted a brand, so he's right to follow his instincts.
Let's look at his primary trope -- the anti-hero. Lots of shows have anti-heroes, however Sheridan has taken it a step further by turning his heroes into villains by the end and his villains into heroes. In SICARIO, Alejandro is revealed to be concealing a private revenge quest that ultimately ends with him slaying an entire family at the dinner table. Emily Blunt, who we thought was the main character, turns out to just be the collateral damage of that and can do nothing to stop him... other than allowing the wolf to go on its way, content to not have been eaten by it... at least physically. In terms of HIGHWATER, Chris Pine is revealed to have been the mastermind behind the whole bank robbing enterprise and far more deadly than Bridges can imagine. To these ends, Sheridan always makes sure that the audience sees his heroes doing bad things, being terrible people at times, and those characters the audiences may be designating as villains to do some really good things. This means that at any time, he can decide that someone you've been clinging to as one thing can ultimately be revealed to be someone else entirely. It's a potent trope.
Lots of screenwriters have certain identifiable elements in their writing that are usually subsumed by the director. Because Sheridan broke out as show creator and his first two screenplays had an amazing degree of success, I think it's highly more likely we'll see Sheridan continue to do exactly what he does until either he retires or there's no audience for his shows anymore. I suspect the former as Sheridan is dialed into a certain segment of the psyche of Middle America -- maybe more than dialed in... I'd say fused, and there's just always going to be an audience for that, even if it diminishes in size over time.
The same can be said for someone like Tyler Perry, who will always have his audience, whether it scales up or down, slipping in and out of the mainstream.
I feel like Taylor Was trying to be like Kevin Costner I wonder why Kevin Costner had problems with Taylor I think he thinks too much of himself and then taken on too many projects what does he try to do here He's in over his head😅
His writings resemble a 5 years old boy universe, no consequences for crimes, killing, kidnapping and torture.
Not only that, the action scenes are laughable and stupid.
Agreed but I’d say more a pervy teen.
thank you. i always thought that
so yellowstone is about a rancher mobster who also runs the state. Stupidest idea ever. They could have made that show 1000x better. Main character killed in first episode of season 1? LOL><
1883 - sucked so bad.
1923 - was a soap opera that was pathetic
he needs a break. Most of his films are identical .
I feel the same #HATE Taylor shairdon
This is a paid pro Sheridan puff piece, this is because he is not following his own rules when writing about Ydllowstone and the prequels. things should rest in the kayce and Trace Dutton and it should be there time. it semms to very from his own writings. is this true with the Yellowstone scripts or not?
Much ado about nothing, hombre. These are just TV shows. Sheesh.
.. he has a chin implant !
