Football was better in those days, there was a raw passion that's sadly missing in today's modern money obsessed game. The gap between the fans and the players was closer in those times......a mere drop of water.....now they are oceans apart .....miss those days
Relegation was the best thing to happen to Utd in 74. It gave the team a kick in the backside and they where determined to get back in the top flight in the immediate post-Charlton/Law/Best era with a new look squad emerging under Tommy Docherty.
I've just started watching these games,,, proper passion,,, fantastic crowd atmosphere end to end football,,,, no babies rolling around the floor, no advertisements,, match of the day used to be a game then highlights,,, now its pundits and stats,,,, what a waste of time
Often site this as one of the best 3 games I've ever been to. My first real away game (apart from Maine Rd). Sat in the Leppings Lane End. A 4-4 draw; pitch invasion; mounted police on the pitch; Jim Holton broke his leg. Apart from that it was as boring as this weekend's Cup game v Sheff Utd! NOT! In the days before ticket only when United used to take thousands! Look at the Kop end when United score the first - and that was the Home End! Sheff Weds and Villa were always the best away days for me. Happy Days and yes like others say, comparing this matchday experience to todays' is like comparing growing up in the Bronx to Alderley Edge. A damn shame.
I was a spectator at this game whilst studying as an undergraduate at the University of Sheffield. It was more like a schoolboy game than professional football, but nonetheless great entertainment. Unbelievable that one year later Man Utd were third in the then first division.😂.
Rather a gripping encounter, watched by a crowd of around 35,000, which was around treble Wednesday's average home gate for season 1974-75, and anyone seeing it might have thought both sides were going for promotion to The First Division. Though in actual fact, and while United did make an instant return to the top flight as Champions, Wednesday had struggled for most of the campaign, and eventually suffered the embarrassment of relegation to the third tier, for the first time in their history. And a pity such a great game was marred by crowd disturbances, sadly a feature of the game as a whole at the time ....
God who dug this game out. .. Happy days, teenage years following the reds. Every home game and lots of away games. The mass of the red army every game. I'm writing this whilst watching the video, so I may make a fool of myself, but was this the game Big Jim Holton broke his leg?
Peter Springett a lovely and honest man and a great servant to our club. But I am sorry he was not a patch on his brother Ron who was a great keeper. Ron and Peter Rest in Peace and Thank You
Great stuff, loved 74/75 season, I am desperately trying to find extended highlights of the legendary match v Sunderland at OT from this season, help!!!!
That's comedy. The guy look like he was going to cry when you give away the free kick. Then the wall organisers that guy got angry in the middle about organising the wall. And in the end his organising it was the reason for the goal... it was his fault lol.
Remember that season well Sunderland at old Trafford 3. 2. Manure had a real hooligan problem then what they were going to to when they came to roker but they never came local oress saying Utd come to roker like little lambs and was that hooligan leader called Oldham or coldham he never came to the NE
So the commentator is a mind reader? United fans didnt want the game abandoned, why should they? the team were blitzing the old 2nd Div . Totally biased commentary too.
@@Caskchap ALWAYS BIAZED AGAINST US.FOR YEARS THEY USED TO SAY HOW LUCKY WE WERE OR HOW THE REFEREE HELPED US BUT THEY DO NOT SHOW THE SAME SENSITIVITY WHEN OTHER CLUBS ARE BEING HELPED BY THE REFEREE OR THEY ARE LUCKY.ALL OF THEM LEANING TOWARDS THEIR BELOVED LIVERPOOL.

I went to nearly every game home and away that year but I’d forgot about this game as my memory is rubbish... thanks amazing!

1974/75 was my first season watching Burnley F.C., Ahhh the memories. 🏟️🥅🏐😀
I was there that day, saw Big Jim Holton's career effectively come to an end. Heartbreaking. Bloody freezing as well!
2:27 Commentator: "Harvey from all of 25 yards" (as he strikes it pretty much from the 18th yard line)....ok then lol.
What a game! ... Skip to my Lou Macari! :)

I remember this season, if I remember rightly Sheff Wed were anchored to the bottom all season and United the reverse at the top

The goals off free kicks showed how the 1970 Brazil side changed British Football
Now that's how you take over a ground, amazing
god look at all the united supporters
Great stuff, loved 74/75 season, I am desperately trying to find extended highlights of the legendary match v Sunderland at OT from this season, help!!!!
Beamer66 went that game mate best game ever
Stewart Houston 7', Lou Macari 53', 85', Stuart Pearson 63'
Everytime I see the Leppings Lane end I can't help but feel it looks ghostly after what happened in 1989
That's what you call away taking over the ground, united fans packed the Kop and leppings lane.
who turned out the lights in the second half?
The floodlights at Hillsborough were not very good then.
Je vois qu'il y avait de l'ambiance (même en 2ème division).
Quel a été le parcours de MU cette année ?
Sont ils remontés facilement ?

Referee "Mr Baker"
Mr Baker the reff had just passed away rip respects
Typical of Man United fans can't stand to see your side losing that's why you tried to get the game abandoned
Horrible Sheff Wed kit.
at 5.45 ON The film. United fans trying to get the match abandoned. Still as normal , BAD LOSERS,Who think the world is all about them.
So the commentator is a mind reader? United fans didnt want the game abandoned, why should they? the team were blitzing the old 2nd Div . Totally biased commentary too.
no utd just taking another end ground an town.
