- The Cabaret presents Eva Noblezada’s 2021 performance at The Cabaret, part of The Glick Philanthropies Broadway at The Cabaret Series.
Eva Noblezada recently starred in the title role for director Diane Paragas in the award-winning Sony Pictures film, Yellow Rose. She'll next be seen starring in Amblin's Easter Sunday. She won a Grammy and was nominated for a Tony Award for starring on Broadway in Hadestown. It was her second Tony nomination in her first two Broadway roles, following her earlier nod in the title role in Miss Saigon in 2017. She previously starred in Hadestown at the National Theatre in London after being a lead in the West End revivals of Miss Saigon and Les Miserables. Noblezada was a high school student when she was discovered by casting director Tara Rubin at the 2013 Jimmy Awards in NYC.
she's got that broadway diction. I never knew all the words until hearing her sing!
😂
I agree!
She got some lyrics wrong unfortunately 😭
@@moist_spinach Which ones? I hadn't properly noticed
@@jackiecozzie4803 the bridge of the song, "madness and toil of that dead earthly scene". Toil should be "soil" and dead should be "sad"
Damn, she really fucking _gets_ the song. Great mixture of beautiful melodies and that raw anger and loathing that Hozier depicts.
She is singing about sex and worshipping a body of another. Tell you my sins while you Sharpe your knife means "I'll tell you my sexual deeds while you get an erection" offer me that deathless stab means "put tge erection in me" ..getting stabbed but not dying. It's raw sexual energy and every line is dripping with it. No anger xxxx
It's called interpretation 🥰💜
@@CaterinaDomenech1 and there's a thing called lost in translation...because ppl interpreted wrong. ❤🎅🎄🎁
Came here to say this half as well as you did.
that is.. beautiful
She’s a great singer, but the piano player helps a lot to convey the mood with sharp and quick notes. Not taking anything away from her performance, just giving credit to her pianist too. She’s a phenomenal singer.
GO TOLOL.. TOLOL
Make your words mine.
i came to the comments for this, she did AMAZING but this performance wouldn't be as good if the pianist didn't snap!!!!! their chemistryyyy
That's why live music, customized to the singer's preference is better than reused backing track.
@@myyou7335. Heck it'd be ok if it's just her singing!😊❤
I could listen to her sing “DEATHless death” over and over and over again
i feel the same way!
Omg SAME. Music is something else when there is a fire and passion underneath it.
I love the angry energy she brings to this!

Why is she angry?
They dont let her to be gay, I would be angry too tbh@@ecks081
@@ecks081 Listen to the lyrics and you'll realize why.
I want someone to write an entire musical around this performance.
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD. I HAVE TO PUT THIS OUT IN THE WORLDDDD. A FUCKIN CONVERSION THERAPY MUSICAL. Okay I know that sounds like tricky territory but what if its got gospely vibes mixed with modern music (like what they did with moulin rouge) that gets progressively angrier (like hunchback of Notre Dame, hellfire mostly vibes). Then every character has like two faces. Like a half and half situation (kinda Jekyll and Hyde musical -ish) where one half is the face they show to others (most of the characters = 1/2 super Christian, 1/2 the 'real' version. Like one guy could be really into fashion design but bc it's not masc, he hides it. Then there's some LGBT characters where the half they show is closeted then the other half, it could loud and proud). Like maybe the main character likes certain popartists (like Gaga or Katy or Taylor or maybe older musical songs) but they break off in the middle of the song trying to convince themselves that they don't want to listen to that. (Like "ooooh I wanna dance with som-jesus is my savior Christian gospel blah blah. Like The Confrontation in the Jekyll and Hyde musical) Big spring awakening vibes mixed with Hunchback.
God, that would be such a good idea. If I only I knew how to write music at all 😂😂 I EXPECT CREDIT IF ANYONE RUNS WITH THIS
Edit: this comment is edited bc in my excitability originally, it got jumbled and confused. Edited only to add clarification on certain things 💃💃
A hozier juke box musical would be amazing
i am now desperate for a hozier musical and I'm sad because it doesn't exist lmao...it'd be pretty easy considering all the common themes his songs have
On it
@@pilesofpeonies uuuh hell yeah, a nice gothic aesthetic, religious guilt and heavily psychological background.
I would live for that
The way she sung "good God let me give you my life" 2:14 with a mixture of such great anger, despair and desperation was absolutely perfection
To me it should have sounded angry and sarcastic at the same time. She made it fit my vision.
When I first heard the original song, I really interpreted the lyrics as a pledge to his lover, as him talking to the man About the church, this performance gives a totally different perspective of a sarcastic rant given to the church itself regarding its own hypocrisy. Beautifully done.
. When I heard it first time, I thought the same. I understand by reading the lyrics that it was all sarcasm.
Eva is amazing and I love her and her energy but you also have to acknowledge just how much the pianist is contributing to this performance because the melding of the two is insane
FR this wouldnt be the same without the pianist, but the piano wouldnt be the same without her voice, they're literally made for each other
It's a collaboration, most singers really benefit from a good musician and know they're partners.
Yessss I agree completely. I would love to see a transcription of how the pianist arranged this version
fvck. you are right!
More people can learn the piano in 2 years than singing like this (but that's just because singing skills are so goddamn tied to your god-given voice capabilities). As for the arrangement, it's nothing special either.
Don't get me wrong, piano accompaniment is necessary here, and the pianist did a fine job, but it's not the thing that makes a performance special.
theres something about how angry this is that actually makes me understand the lyrics so much better its insane. Also, as always, Eva noblezada is a fucking powerhouse of talent and I'm in love with it.
Agreed !
you can tell she really took the time to understand the lyrics and apply the appropriate tone and it’s just perfect ✨
She's did a very good job on the tonality and really committed to the notes. Can 100% tell you she didn't take much time reading the lyrics though "In the madness and toil of that dead earthly scene." lol
ABSOLUTELY! THIS IS HOW ITS MEANT TO BE SANG! PERFECT!!!! Youre supposed to lose your composure at the chorus!!! THE DEPRAVITY and DESPERATION OF THE SONG!!!
eva is the queen of filling her voice with emotion that actually matches the lyrics and pitch of the song instead of just trying to make it "pretty", i love it so much
It's not that pop but almost there
but can't buy a goddamn shirt?
People can wear what they want
@@lebronjamesharden3958stage lights are hot as hell, especially when ur belting. Cut her some slack, she prob doesn't wanna have a heat stroke mid-performance
It actually reflects a lot on the song, as (according to Hozier) the song brushes on how women tend to be judged for their sexuality or sexual expression and actions@@lebronjamesharden3958
When she sang that first amen it literally gave me chills
sammmeeeee
Fo sho! you can also hear someone in the audience admiring it with a good moan🤣
Why tho
Amen
You are god damn right
Idk how I ended up here, but dayum! Whoa. She is TALENTED. Dang-the control, the diction, the emotion. I am so beyond impressed. “Take my money” comes to mind. Wow
Oh my word. Just watched it again. Still amazing. It just looks like an audition or something but she just NAILS it. 🤯
My favorite line was always the one about the high horse
The deathless death part was what I always wanted to people just to shout loud!!!! This girl did!
She PERFORMED this song, my God. This feels like watching the climax of a musical
Why is she in Bra singing gospel?
@@nobodycares3953 Idk man, allegedly America is a free country
@@nobodycares3953 take me to church isnt a gospel song either tbh its a soul song for the lgbtq+ community and the struggle of them.

Her higher register is freaking criminal 😭
I'm HOH, this is the first time I've understood 100% of the lyrics! What a fantastic singer.
I came here because of Haewon’s recommendation❤ Btw her voice is wonderful😭
The passion, the diction, the ANGER, the storytelling!!! You did that! This was a wonderful performance.
At first I couldn’t imagine her singing this song, but she totally made it her own and it’s amazing! So much talent.
The accompaniment made this song song so much more intense and dramatic... that paired with her diction really made this song powerful
The way she sings "good god" makes me feel like I've been transported to a different reality- I can't even explain how satisfying it is.
Her voice is like a siren’s song, it immediately draws me in
as someone who grew up queer under a homophobic pastor father I have a visceral reaction every time i hear this song. it rises things in me, pain, anger, bits of joy and relief. this was such an incredible and powerful take on this song
"No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean"
I think the music video is filmed from a queer perspective too. I don't know why they didn't parallel the message in the song too though.
@@ferntella when the lyrics are viewed from the perspective of hidden secretive queerness in my opinion it parallels beautifully. Even before I saw the MV the lyrics broke me bringing back memories of my teenage years.
Forgive the coming rant about my personal feelings with listening to this song:
His lover is always “she” to protect them both.
“I should have worshiped her sooner” a desire to have broken free from faiths chains sooner
“We we’re born sick, you heard them say it” being told day in and day out that queers, and unknowingly that YOU are wrong and need to be made well.
“I was born sick, but I love it. Command me to be well” for me this line brings back the shame in feeling good in my queerness. The fact you’ve been told horrid things about yourself that you don’t feel and not knowing why. WANTING god to fix you to take it away. Crying to sleep begging and pleading with a man in the sky.
And the big kicker for me, “I’ll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife” when I confess to you, you will scorn me. You will hate me. When I tell you these sins you will attack and berate the very aspect of my life I’ve already been fighting against for years and years, Your knife only killing me faster.
But I also listen to this song and feel relief that I did make it out, and that I can use my experiences to guide others out.
“In the madness and toil of that sad, earthly scene: only then am I human, only then am I clean.” Making out into “the darkness” of the world I felt alive and free of the first time. Getting to guide others there helps a lot with deconstructing my own traumas and pain from the church.
Long ass rant I know, just have very passionate feelings about this song and it’s lyrics. They may not be the intended message but by god the message I received from my perspective was world shattering.
Self-righteous prick.
@@ZephaniahL you ok friend?
Homophobic Pastor??? That's called faith in your religion.
I heard so many covers and this is the only one that has that aggression I need to hear but still sounding stunning. I think he’d be proud of this one!
God... How many colors has she in her voice? Wonderfull!
I would do literally anything for her voice.
-drink at LEAST eight cups of water a day
-find a vocal coach
-thoroughly warm up your voice every day in a healthy manner (you can ask the vocal coach or find tutorials on yt)
-find out what your range is and how you can comfortably and safely sing in it (your posture, how you hold certain syllables and vowels, how you move your mouth etc all contribute to your performance)
-find songs within your range
-practice like your life depends on it
@@offsewingdragons9142 result, you're now 1/4th as good. WHICH IS A COMPLETE WIN
She gives lyrics to life...
It’s so raw with just the voice and piano, beautiful.
Wonderful performance. "That's a fine looking high horse. What you got in the stable?" The best lines.
THIS is how this song is meant to be sang. holy shit. of course hozier is a vocal king but the lyrics of this song suit it better to a woman in my opinion, it captures the essence of "forbidden" gay love better than anything else, and let me tell you this girl UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT. the PASSION, the fury, the desperation... literally moved me to tears.
Forbidden gay love? This is a genuine question but where did you get gay from? It just sounds like a functioning relationship in max love to me
@@PoGuy12 it's a pretty well known fact this song is about gay lovers. it's even depicted really clearly in the music video
@@youruncleolaf4694 oh cool. Is hozier speaking from a female perspective then? I didn’t watch the music vid
@@PoGuy12 “We were born sick but I love it” “there is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin”
@@PoGuy12 nope, it’s about two gay men. i do agree with the original comment, i think it sounds better thinking of it from a woman’s perspective, but that isn’t what hozier was coming from when he did it
Wish this was on spotify so I could binge it every day
u can use yt music xd
she really gets the soul of the song, got me lost in the emotional rollercoaster she went on
She's mesmerizing, so powerful
I've heard this song a hundred times but this gave me chills
Me too, I listened to this song so much that I grew tired of it, blasphemy, I know. She made the song her own, felt new and raw again. Unbelievable.
Stop weed men!
SHE IS SO CRAZY FOR THIS /AFFECTIONATE
She's awesome, the best cover I've heard, it's even better than the original
not better, but almost on the same level
I love how she sings the “good gOD let me give you my life” part!!! Well- actually how she sings everything !!!
YESSSSSSSSSS
My gay heart SWELLS
I so wanna see Eva playing in a wlw romance
Oh my gods PLEASE I wouldn't be able to function jsjksjdjajdje 😍😍🙏
Omg YES PLEASE I would simply die if she ever did
I think she did a version of 'Take Me or Leave Me' from Rent. So that's the closest we can get for now.
SHE'S WLW SO THIS'LL BE DOUBLE GREAT
@@absolutelynot524 she IS??? is this another win for my legendary accurate gaydar? F YES
This song must’ve been so challenging with all of the support and breath control thst goes into it and she nails it 😩
Absolutely amused at all these comments not even understanding the original song or how much she slayed this. Amazing
It's another level of skill to pull these runs off and still be able to understand every word. Fantastic.
This woman is undeniably talented! I've been a fan since Miss Saigon and her movie Yello Rose♥️
Have you seen her in Hadestown? The most incredible I’ve ever seen.
Eva did great and was flawless and whoever was playing piano was great!!
her voice is so ridiculously good i need to hear her sing everything from now on
I cannot count how much I have replayed this version already. I love Eva so much 🥺
the way she said "giggle" at the beginning (0:06) made my stomach DROP. oh my god. this is so gorgeous.
i've got chills, she really tells the story and puts in so much emotion but still nails every single note. she really has something special
This is my fav cover of this song. I love it when an individual sings it like how they interpret it, like delivering a poetry, it's an expression.
got chills when she got to amen and she killed the chorus
Always loved this song - but truly the first time all the lyrics have been so easily understood. An amazing performance - thanks for sharing this.
the talent this woman has I CAN'T!!!
You have no idea how many times I come back to watch this masterpiece. She absolutely slayed.
I didn't even know Eva Noblezada existed until UA-cam put it in front of me. This is an amazing performing of that song. Jee-zuz!
her voice is absolutely beautiful. chills.
The original song always gives me such a desperate feeling, and this is honestly the only cover that lives up to giving me that feeling.
It's like it was written for her. I am touched by this performance. Amazing.
I keep coming back to this video. Her voice is chillingly beautiful
This woman blows my mind 🔥🙌🏻
I’ve never gotten so many chills from one song
she's really amazing!
Especially I love her confident.
i cant stop coming back to this shes so good
My lover's got humor
She's the giggle at a funeral
Knows everybody's disapproval
I should've worshiped her sooner
If the Heavens ever did speak
She's the last true mouthpiece
Every Sunday's getting more bleak
A fresh poison each week
"We were born sick", you heard them say it
My church offers no absolutes
She tells me, "Worship in the bedroom"
The only Heaven I'll be sent to
Is when I'm alone with you
I was born sick, but I love it
Command me to be well
A-, Amen, Amen, Amen
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
If I'm a pagan of the good times
My lover's the sunlight
To keep the Goddess on my side
She demands a sacrifice
Drain the whole sea
Get something shiny
Something meaty for the main course
That's a fine looking high horse
What you got in the stable?
We've a lot of starving faithful
That looks tasty
That looks plenty
This is hungry work
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
Take me to church
I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins so you can sharpen your knife
Offer me my deathless death
Good God, let me give you my life
No masters or kings when the ritual begins
There is no sweeter innocence than our gentle sin
In the madness and soil of that sad earthly scene
Only then I am human
Only then I am clean
Oh, oh, Amen, Amen, Amen

I'll worship like a dog at the shrine of your lies
I'll tell you my sins and you can sharpen your knife
Offer me that deathless death

The emotion and passion and clarity in her voice was so absolutely captivating! That was the best rendition I've ever heard! 💖💖💖💖 She is going to go so far with that beautiful voice!
goosebumps all over!!!! Love to see eva performing!!! 💕
Total domination of the voice, incredible beauty!
I've commented on here before, but I wasn't in love and slightly drunk then (ok I might have been slightly drunk, but I wasn't in love). I love the song no matter who sings it but Eva with her outfit and her perfect diction sends me over the top. She is an amazing singer, person, woman (add your own words here LOL). If I get the choice to listen to only one song in eternity (heaven or hell) it is Eve Noblezada singing this song in my ear forever. Thank you Miss Eva, you are amazing!!!
Amazing diction and riffs! So envious of her talent; it looks so effortless!
I especially love the little growls. Good God! That was fire, Eva!!! ❤️❤️🔥🔥
