I really think that what made portrait of a lady on fire be so extraordinary was its ability to turned a lesbian film (usually a copy from straight romances) actually into a deep and complex movie, even bringing innovations in the way of telling love stories. Simply a masterpiece

Carol is just my absolute fav one- probably bc of the biggest crush Cate but the film itself has the feeling of making you calm in some way
And don’t forget Elena Undone and Kiss Me (Kyss Myg-Swedish with subtitles), great steamy lesbian movies that have feel-good endings. (Though both require infidelity for the women to unite).

The Guest House is pretty good, not a fan of how the director did the end of the film, but it is a great film
I’m with you on Saving Face. Absolutely my favorite too. It has a very good believable story and It’s freaking hilarious too. Also has a happy ending which you rarely see in lesbian films.
I love "the world to come" and was a mess even hours later. I feel so called out because in hindsight Nelly Furtado was my gay awakening and I really fell in love with her because of this song an music video you showed. And I also love period dramas and I'm depressed so 10/10
I’m surprised there are no mentions of When Night is Falling here. I loved that film and it’s still one of my favorites!

Until they found her dog or whatever in the freezer lol It was a dog wasnt it? I remember that I really liked that movie at the time, but the only detail that I can remember now is the dog in the freezer. They could have left that out

This is what signaled to me that two women could fall in love. I had nothing queer to look at to see myself in... live life together, share life together, love each other and be passionate about the sex they had. Aimee and Jaguar changed the trajectory of my fucking life!!!! P S I watched A&J whilst I was married to a man; I look behind me to see that I wasn't in love with him, I never was. From 15 to 39 were my 1st and 39 to 49 my current and second marriage. I never had a fire in my belly until I met and married my wife.

I’ve seen every one of these and I have to agree completely; I think I’ve seen Desert Hearts and Carol 3 times. Probably because I’m older (read ‘old’), I just have to include a 2012 movie that for me, is Number One. There are so few good lesbian films of the “May-December’ pair, and “A Perfect Ending” just floats my boat! I’ve never seen it in any of your reviews, and I would just love to see it somewhere…it’s definitely under the “Out Late” or the “Best Romance” category. The performances of Barbara Niven and Jessica Clark are exquisite and the romance is precious.

I read that Desert Hearts is going to have a sequel as soon Donna Dietch (the director of the original movie) can raise enough funds to make the movie. I read that she even had (has) a fundraiser for it...people could buy merchandise from the original movie. I wonder if this is going to happen??

I think that every lesbian movie could be subtitled "Portrair Of A Lady On Fire" bc inevitably the interference of men will make life hell for any two women in love, lol. (And the sad thing is that most women will fold under the pressure & declare themselves bi but in a long term relationship w/ a male. 🤬 You have to have a really weak stomach for men & a high tolerance for oppobrium to live as a lesbian, even in "modern" times, truth be told).
The world to come.. is so good when it’s really really good!! It’s really above expectation!! So much emotions to unravel!! I love the actors.. so much chemistry..
I really enjoyed a few of these. Especially Desert Hearts. I believe Snapshots is worthy of honorable mention. A beautiful movie.

Also, I watched The World To Come, and I was a sobbing mess the entire day. It wrung my heart but I was happy to have watched it. Both the ladies were 🔥🔥🔥 I actually liked the diary narration. Felt very poetic and it indulged my thirsty ass 😂😂

Summerland is a hidden gem. You guys have to watch it, it isnt very romance centered but it is you might not understand that but it'll make sense once u watch it

There's a quirky lesbian indie movie I LOVE it was set in Vancouver and Seattle . Originally it was a book then shot and produced by the writer .Closing music about Julie Christie she makes me mistie . Has full spectrum of love,drama, hilarious self awareness ,and then meeting the only other that gets your life .Last saw it in 2k and have forgotten the name of it . Please find it and watch it, and pass on the review ... XO
