Finally had a break in my schedule and got a chance to catch up. Wouldn't you know it, I won!!! Holy cow. I'm so jazzed! Thanks so much, Dustin and and all involved. Can't wait to see what you have in store for all your loyal viewers in the coming months. Keep up the great work!
Jeremy Parker! It’s great to hear from you. We were getting worried we wouldn’t be able to find a way to contact you and get you this hatchet. I really appreciate your comments, and am really happy to know that you’re passing along some of the skills you’re learning from my channel to your children. Please send me an email to theartofcraftsmanship@gmail.com, so we can ship this out to you. Thanks again and congrats!
Have fun watching your videos. True craftsmanship. Great repurpose on what some might throw out. This is what people should learn to do. In a society of buy to replace you show that with a little effort new life can be restored in an old tool.
Great work. Only thing i would change is a piece of leather sandwiched in between the sheath along the part where the rivets are. Keeps the chance of the blade getting dull. If you had used thread, it would keep the threads from being cut.
I love your work. I watched you modify a half-hatchet/carpenter's hatchet into a nice bushcraft axe and was hooked from there. I've spent many hours watching you make knives and sheaves and many other things since and have enjoyed every video! I myself have 13 yr old daughter that comes out into my shop with me regularly for projects and so I find it cool that your kids make sneaky little cameos. I've got a few old axes/hatchets to restore and a couple old half-hatchets that I'm going to attempt to modify like you did.
Love your axe craftsmanship - the first axe was beautiful. This Axe sings. Congrats to Jeremy for winning this beauty. Slowly but surely, I'm turning into an axe collecting junkie. Would love to find out how our family could get ahold of one your reclaimed bushcraft pieces like this. My kiddos and I would put it good use. :)
I really enjoy watching your videos. I'm a old tool guy myself. I have some if my Great-grandfathers tools from the late 1800s- early 1900s. They are still used, cared for and will never be modified. But, yard sales and flea markets are your friend. I have some axes, hatchets and knives that will be modified to fit a need. Thank you for the inspiration and keep up the great work. Oh yeah, ignore these negative guys that don't like your way. There's more than one way to skin and bbq a cat and they're all delicious. God bless and stay creative.
Just a thought before applying oil to the handle or whatever protection you want to apply, if you get a fine mist spray bottle and just dampen the handle it will raise those fibers in the wood and then you can take some 320 grit to it then maybe even some 600 grit and the handle will be smoother than you can imagine and it really brings out a nice look for the wood when oiled up. Food for thought man, great job on the channel. I thoroughly enjoy the content you produce! Keep up the great work!
I like your mods overall. magic handle length for me is 16 inches, but most are much too short. Also, agree with the curve and recess of the heel. A lot, of those type hatchets are totally flat and parallell with the handle, which is extremely limiting for a multi-use tool. I've seen so many pointless and strictly art mods, that this is refreshing. Also, your handle isn't absurdly thick! Kudos. :) Cheers.
Hey Dustin, just wanted to say that I've really been enjoying your channel and have watched a heap of your videos. I've taken a lot of inspiration from your projects and love both the diversity of crafts and the attention to detail you put into each item. So much so, in fact, that I've just spent $100 on a bunch of tools from the workshop of an old local craftsman who moved on to the big old shop in the sky and I'm now working my way through them; restoring, upgrading and breathing new life into them using many techniques and tricks I've learned from your videos. Thanks man and keep up the great work!
Awesome work any aficionado or outdoorsman would be stoked to receive a piece with such a high degree of personal effort and customization. I find you strangely hypnotic and very relaxing to watch at work on these projects, and whoever does your camera work does a smashing job. Keep it up guys great channel and knowledgable original content kudos to you all. Thanks for making these vids and sharing what you know. Boz from Aus.
I dig your style and LOVE the music. Very much. Thanks for sharing your workshop and world with us. - Caught a sneaky wave from what appears to be your daughter in the background. - Nice work, keep on!
It has been really beautiful. in my country it is difficult to find that type of ax. here are almost all Viscayan ax which is typical of Spain. greetings and I love your videos. cheer up and keep it up.

Man, I really love how you put so much dedication in all the facets of this 'makeover'. It sure makes the difference! I would love to see a video of your "axe bank". Maybe even do a little educational video on vintage axe brand and things like. Love your stuff!
Great little video again, just a suggestion for you, if you mount your burnisher in your pillar drill you get better, faster results.
Awesome Hatchet Sir. Well Done !!!!!!!!!
That is a nicely built and refined axe. I particularly like the handle work but it's all good, Love your channel.
