man I miss that train.i remember from an young kid i use to ride the orange line T train.and after i move to the islands in 1984.and when i cameo visit in 1997.the trains was gone and i told my uncle ohh man what happen to the trains he say they took them down.and I said wow had deep saddened and missed them.
Exactly how they demolished the Liverpool Overhead Railway in 1957 the daddy of them all which started it all off, sad to see it go, I didn't get chance to ride on it.
All in the name of Progress????? Yuck.......I hate this video!!!! If I don't catch myself, I get teary-eyed watching it. I'm glad Chicago decided to keep most of their elevated lines and structures.
I'm sorry but I would have to disagree with you on that note,Though out our Chicago history they have torn down many of our EL's and finally parts of our green line which hurt my heart
Darkside Dragon, Your point is well taken. When CRT went under and CTA came into "receivership", so to speak, that's when "L" lines started disappearing, especially if they had low ridership volume. The Humbolt Park, Kenwood, and Union Stock Yard lines were among the first to get "axed" in the early to late 1950s, if I remember correctly. There were also sections of the West Side Metropolitan Elevated (now to Forest Park Blue Line that runs along the Eisenhower expressway median) that went much further west than they do at present, that were 'axed". As for the "Green" Line, I assume you're referring to the 63rd Street branch to Cottage Grove. That line used to go all the way to Stony Island. Then, it was the "Jackson Park "B" train" when I was growing up on the south side of Chicago. I used it all the time throughout the late 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. And I still use it on occasion when I visit Chicago; I live in Arizona now.
TheChicagoL I see you know your history, I use to live right by 63rd Cottage Grove and at one point it went all the way through the park but I know that was before my time but in 1982 when. the line was in disrepair they just tore it down to Dorchester. then they rebuild it and then tore it down to Cottage Grove and it's sickening to watch
it was good cause it ran for years.well I know way before my time.I can see when I first rode it I can see the view from Dudley station to down town boston.I can see where I use to live around roxyhomes kendall St and Franklin park.

A huge mistake. To this day, the community's "Rapid Transit"need is still under-served ! PS Those 1100's flew !!
I spent enough time riding the old El to have been eligible to register to vote from it. This is brilliant footage!
I am so sad 😭 l well not be the same.😔 Sad day for me.🙄
No going back!

Thats my kind of film. I was lucky to ride this el more than once from 1979 to 1987.
It's a shame that Boston tore down their El. Philly had their Els rebuilt.
I mean it was probably for the best considering these things cause a lot of noise pollution, at least the trains can go faster underground.
I want one of those girder crushers so I can wreak havoc!
Fantastic bass solo, It might be a cello, very perplexing.
4 the real Bostonian who can remember this event..
