(6:15) I used to reload a save file and destroy these two buildings over and over again, and had a lot of fun doing it. I'd try charges in different places, then run inside and try to make it to the top floor while the building was falling apart. Or jetpack up on the roof and sledge those front pillars straight down. Good times, and honestly I'm eager to pick up the remaster at some point, even though it's not a huge graphical leap, it still looks cleaned up with a bit more fidelity. 10 years later, and I don't think there's another game that has come anywhere close to RFG's Geomod 2.0 engine. I would guess it's because we expect games to keep looking exponentially better - higher resolution, higher texture quality, better shadows, better performance, better AA, better post-processing fx - and there just aren't any games with any render budget left over to handle this complex level of destruction calculation on top of it.
in case you didn't know RFG has an option now to reset almost all destruction on the map when you load a save file - no more having to keep buildings safe for a whole playthrough!
The physics and destruction of Red Faction needs to be implemented into Just Cause 5 when they make it. You can do so much in the games but the physics and realism is way off. The explosions and overall visuals are better in Just Cause but they seriously need to fix the basic physics of destruction.
Or maybe they should redirect storytelling funding bacause they hired the director of deadpool for the jc4 story and nobody gabe a flying fuck about him and the story. Maybe in future updates they get to make just cause 4 closer to the destruction capability of red faction. In their recent update entire train bridges are destructible and it was hella fun.
I know it's an old comment, but destructibility is usually an issue when regarding performance. That's why the destruction in games make everything feel like a heavy price of cardboard. Red faction was way ahead of it's time. Battlefield 4 made an illusion of destruction, premade assets that would snap off when enough damage is dealt, or premade cinematic animations for buildings. It's easy to market appareance than the actual experience.
@@weskerkings651 Im working on a game like that right now trying to do anything approaching realistic graphics with full destruction even on modern hardware is still very resource intensive and can cut fps by more than 4x
lets be fair, while just cause 4 has great looking explosions, they seem to think every explosive should be a gas explosion. red faction remarstered seems to know the difference between a demo charge and a car explosion at least even if the gas explosions in it aren't as pretty as jc 4. its a thoughtfully produced game whereas jc 4 while being fun, is like a shitty action movie put together by a gaggle of tweens
Red Factipn with new techonlogy would be great all they need to fix is those bugs with the debris floatting and lagging around and make the falling effect a bit slower so it can look more powerful like on real life scale.
@BlueWarHead Just Cause 3 has better water effects than both, they just failed on the 4. It's not an accomplishment for Halo than being better than a failure..
I still cant believe how bad the water is tho!😂 Great video idea!! I really like the destruction in red faction, Also, based on another video, i think explosions are better in jc3
The quality is of course better in Just cause 4, but the amount of destructible things is a whole lot better in Just Cause 3, you had even a gosh darn functioning nuke which with my perspective looked great.
The difference to me is. Just Cause things have 2 states, intact, and broken. Once broken, they collapse beautifully, but causing destruction is trivial. Most RFG things must be broken to the point of structural collapse, which makes the destruction much more satisfying and less trivial (important for a game centered on demolition). But as a result, things sometimes defy physics, since the code doesn't cover every case of reduction of structural integrity.
Red Faction is better in terms of destruction IMHO. I didn't get ANY feeling of weight or devastation when it came to Just Cause 4s destruction. It just looked like cardboard coming apart at times. The explosions do look better in JC4, I will concede that, but in terms of the overall presentation, I'd have to give it to RF:G.
Just cause 4 was my first destruction game, and it felt boring, and as if it barely scratched the surface of being destructive other, than fuel tanks and bridges. Even games like Earth Defense Force 2025, and Prototype 1 felt more destructive just for the fact that you can destroy buildings (in P1 you can destroy military base buildings and infected buildings), and I felt like there was more chaos in those games. It’s a shame that JC4 didn’t expand more on its destruction. I hear that the previous JC games did do better with destruction than 4, but I don’t plan on buying the other JC games.
You just gotta love how JC4 has some of the worst performance issues on older hardware, while a fucking 360 game released in the late 2000s can kick its ass with half the hardware available. Istg gaming is just regressing, we hit the peak awhile ago and it’s just downhill from here (outside of the indie scene)
when I am ever stressed out I just hop on my PS4 and play red faction reMARSterd. And I think when it comes to enjoyment. Red faction. when it comes to destruction. Red faction. and if you don't think red faction does not have good exploshions. Get the terobaric rocket.
Red faction guerrilla remastered is very better I'm think, CAUSE THE DAMN GAME HAS RELEASED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2009!2009 WTF, AND THE PSYISICS ARE aMaZiNg!!!!!!! But of course Just cause 4 is a very good game!!*-*
Red faction guerrilla is the best game I've ever played. I wish pandemic didn't die. They would have been able to do some amazing things with current technology.
In Red Faction things fall into more pieces but it's not necessarily more realistic. For example huge steal beams that splinter like toothpicks. The material doesn't really behave realisticly. Also the single pieces glitch around on the ground and cause problems. That's not the case in Just Cause 4.
Metal Gear Rising was originally gonna be this destructable, they just didn't have the time. Still the parts you can destroy have the smoothest physics since Red Faction. I think it had potential to be as good if the time was given. Just Cause is good at explosions, but its destruction physics will never hold up to Red Faction.
It's abundantly clear that rfg has the fat super destruction engine. The reason why everything isn't completely destructible in jc4, is because it's only BASED off the havok physics engine, but for some reason doesn't utilize the geomod 2 destruction engine like in rfg. In rfg, LITERALLY EVERY MANMADE OBJECT CAN BE COMPLETELY LEVELED, EXCEPT FOR THAT ONE GIANT TOWER, I would imagine because of hardware limitations. But that's forgivable considering that rfg came out in 2009. JC4 came out TEN WHOLE YEARS LATER, there is really no excuse for the partial destruction, aside from perhaps they couldn't get the license for geomod 2.0
Red Faction would be the winner, as you can flatten a base. In just cause you can only destroy the towers and gas cans, the concrete structures would still be standing.
The sad thing is, Red Faction is a 10 year old game that runs on Ps3 and Xbox 360 and has awesome destruction with real physics... Just Cause on the other hand allways trys to make things bigger....and not better.
Lmao, if you stood that close to a tornado in real life, you'd get sucked in super quick, it literally doesn't matter if you're the world's heaviest man. Tornadoes have been known to literally pick up tanks and busses, as if they were feather-light.
And yeah! This is extremely weird, because this man can literally get shot by a tank and survive, unrealistic. It is also weird because it would be super fun to just get sucked up into the tornado instead of seeing the beast!
