@@fishedhook2697 honestly, no. It already comes with an alex wrench inside that has everything you need. Waste of money getting the 20 dollar kit unless you're planning to mod other balisongs / are serious about modding
Got the thing did the mods, its good! It did come out of the box pretty stiff which scared me but I took it apart and cleaned now it feels amazing for 30$

Mine just arrived and even without any modifications it already feels 5 times better than all my other cheapos cant imagine how nice it will be once sanded and oiled. Mine also came with extra hardware so big plus!

Is that still worth the money or do i have to look for something else? (I have never had a balisong btw). Would love to hear it from you!
Noud 2007 yes you should get the wiha torq set don’t use the little tool it comes with it will strip the screws

I’ve watched this video like 50 times by now and good thing I bought this knife and I definitely recommend it because it is really good. I prefer it over the squiddy my friend has
Wanted to get into Balisong flipping and found this video a long wile ago and I have to say this is a great video and a great suggestion. Still use this knife as of now and it still works great. Only thing is that I had to end up cutting the latch of because the plastic handle covers came glued on and don’t move even after taking every screw out. Still great and would highly recommend this trainer to anyone interested.

I have two of these I love them. they have 0 play when tuned and feel awesome. the only other thing I would say is about mods, on mine I also crowned the spine. it has a pretty nice chamfer to begin with and that makes it a lot easier to crown, and it just adds that much more to an already pretty good flipper.

Really good video, one thing I will say to critique ya a little bit is that it's necessary to allow the loctite time to cure, approximately 24 Hours is recommended, anyways, really cleaning editing Will!

The Modding Process - 6:20
1. Remove the Spring Latch - 6:26
- Benefits:
* Improves Balance. (a lot)
* Easier to perform rolls and spins.
* Less of an absolute pain in the arse.

2. Sanding the G10 - 6:28
- Benefits:
* Doesn't feel like your skin is slowly getting peeled off when it rubs during spins, flips, rolls, etc.
* Less grippy.

3. Applying Oil - 6:31
- Benefits:
* S m o o t h
+ How??!?!? (10:20)
3. Tighten the Screws - 6:39
- Reason:
* Keeps the screws in place. Cheaper/Newer balisong trainers can tend to have loose screws. The blade can sometimes come out during a flip and hurt someone. Tightening the balisong is a given.

4. L u b r i c a t e - 11:52
- Benefits:
* Loosens the pivots, helping to not get any resistance.

I bought the same one at a pawn shop along the Hatfield and McCoy trails in West Virginia for 12 bucks. Good enough for me.
i got the knife, and it got me back into flipping. I learned how to do the choker fan and the helix and i'm learning how to do the shortstop with this knife. i love how it flips, i thought the balance was gonna be very bad because you said it was bad with the latch, but I dont really notice a bad balance. I would recommend getting this
Bought it for 15 bucks a year and a half ago and it works perfectly and i can`t understand why would i ever need a more expensive knife...

Love this! I’m an old school balisong fan. Just getting back into it after many years. It’s really cool to see how many awesome knives are out there, and so performance oriented. My solid brass 1980s Taylor Manila Folder weighs a ton and flips horribly compared to modern balisongs. Thanks for the great videos!

Just got one of these, haven't done the mods yet wanted to see how i felt about it before buying the extra materials to do this. Up until now i've shamefully had a $5-10 cheap heavy knife. Within a couple days of getting this even without mods i'm making leaps on bounds in learning and definitely plan to delve deeper into this hobby.
Im gonna order one. Are the mods difficult? I'm kinda scared of stripping the screws.
Hey Will, so I am not fully understanding how to remove the latch. Do you only do the work on the bite handle? And I’m not very good with the vocabulary so I don’t understand what screws to take out or just unscrew(I’m new to flippping). Also, for the sanding of the G10, could I just use any sandpaper I can find around the house or is it best just to leave it if I don’t have that specific one you have? Thanks
You only have to do the work on the bite handle to remove the latch. The screws you have to take out on the bite handle are all of the body screws (everything but the pivot screw). You only have to loosen the pivot one. Any sandpaper is fine as long as its around 800+ grit.

Looks like a really decent model! I found who the Chinese manufacturer is online, and they are a reputable one. I might just have to source some for my store, because the model seems like it performs really well and is of great quality for the price.
I'd recommend to be sure never to get one like this wet or muddy, though. Knives on bearings really don't survive very long under those conditions. If you're running on bushings or washers, though... that's fine.
I mostly did that to show that you don't have to care about the knives too much due to their price, but I'm actuality happy to say that I've still been Flipping these even after getting them soaked, dropped, and muddy and they still flip great!
@@WillHirsch Exactly. I just sent a budget model over to the Breakfast for Balisongs channel to review, and it's the same type of segment - just under $30. Originally I thought it ran on bushings, but it's actually on torx screws with clear nylon washers. He gave it a lot of props, compared to other similarly priced Bear and Son models, and everything else he's flipped under $30. You gotta love it when you can find a good value product with quality that exceeds its pricepoint. If you're interested in other types of pocket knives, my personal top 3 best-bang-for-your-buck brands would have to most definitely be Sanrenmu, Ruike, and Ganzo. You get the best materials and action, for the cost.

I got one yesterday it’s pretty good so far, way better than my lego balisong 😂 but the thing is I’m still trying to figure out what screws I need to unscrew to pull out the spring latch
U need t6 for body screws and t8 for pivots. I’m still trying to slide the g10 tho, it’s glued
@@jjzxv9866 Hey, I know i'm pretty late, but I also ran into this issue and figured it out. The g10 is glued onto the metal part. I just took a razor blade to wedge it in by the pivot and separated it.

If you're planning on getting the stuff to do the mods, then get this knife. But, if you want a knife that will be great out of the box with no modding, get the squiddy!
1:02 I legit died because of the voice crack
I once got a balisong with a live blade from a beachwear store and it was pretty good! flipped absurdly smoothly and was quite sharp for a time, but then i dropped it onto a concrete floor and since it had holes in the handles, the safe handle just snapped off. It lasted me a year and 2 months though!!

Mine seemed glued as well. But they did come off. They were wet underneath. I think it has something to do with the coloring of the steel liners. They will (should) wiggle free. Just keep on it.

Great vid man, upgraded from an absolutely garbage $10aud one to this one and the difference is huge! Whilst trying to remove the latch though I've come into a problem, even after removing all of the screws, the G10 wont budge, not in the slightest, even with pretty hefty force. I'm assuming there's glue as well, any way of getting rid of this?

I would consider going to home depot to get a cheaper tool set to do it, it will improve the Flipping quite a bit
I would recommend taking the risk and taking the latch off, but you can just hold the latch handle or bite handle while you flip. but thumb rollovers are kinda bad but its ok.
it comes with a L thing that can undo the screws (i know im late but this is for anyone new seeing this)

I've come to the conclusion that I'm physically incapable of not stripping every screw I touch. There is no soft setting for my large gorilla hands
I will never understand how people strip screws, like i never striped one, even with using wrong sized Bits

Hi there, I found that the screws the hold the knife together, the ones that reside under the cover, get loosened too. I recommend locking them tight too. You need to lock them tight first because you won't be able to reach them after the main two screws are locked tight.

Its my birthday in a week. Ive had to make do with all the crapy 10 pound to 20 pound ones. But now I've put all these items in the basket and it's gunna cost 45 pound. I cant wait.
