Interesting history on this guitar. Love the fact that Rory played one. He in my opinion one of the most underrated guitarists on the planet. Such a tragic story....well done Matt, great find...the checking on this one is off the hook. Like you not a fan of the headstock. It's too skinny. The tuners, IMHO, gotta change those out. I love the wear and tear, shows it has been played with gusto just like Rorys Strat.

great find, Melody Makers are awesome guitars and love modded players although I've seen some hideous mods on a few over the years. I was going to mention that about Gary Moore… If I remember correctly, he has a white DiMarzio super distortion in the bridge of the one he was playing then.

I now own this guitar and let me just say that she is great! Very cool story on how I came across this guitar and found out that this is the guitar I now own. I went to Guitar House of Tulsa to take a look around and saw this old melody maker on a guitar stand in the middle of the store. I picked it up and played it unplugged and knew I had to have it from that moment without even plugging it in. I made a trade deal and walked away with the guitar. Once I got to a friends house I was researching on UA-cam before a gig to find other melody makers that had humbuckers to get a reference of how it would sound. I then run across this video that I had watched when it came out 2 years before. I then very quickly realized that I had got my hands on this exact guitar! What are the odds! Thanks for the documentation Matt and I promise to keep her on the road and making music🤘🏼

Always look forward to seeing your videos Matthew. That’s a great sounding guitar, if it was mine I’d definitely change the tuners to the three a side klusons. I’d probably leave the bridge but tidy up the woodwork around it. Apart from that just leave it the wear on it is great it tells the story of the instrument. Joan Jett's original White guitar used to belong to Eric Carmen of The Raspberries Fame, who can be seen playing it on a snippet from an old Mike Douglas show on youtube and they're playing 'Go All The Way'...

I think you should try to dig around for a Nighthawk, true it isn't a 60yo legend, but as many of you videos as I've watched I know how you love your Fenders. The Nighthawk was one of those few Gibson's that had the Fender scale, and they are unique guitars. I really think you would dig them, but only if you went with the original run, 1993-1995. But hey, a '93 is almost 30 years old now so it could be considered vintage lol

Oh yeah love me some Melody Makers. I've had 3 1967's all purchased for usually no more than a hundred bucks a pop. The 80's were probably the last time those prices were available.

The body looks to be about as thick as the mahogany back of a Les Paul without the archtop maple cap.
What's the thickness measurement on your Melody Maker?
Those 70s T-tops got some Groove !!! Thanks Matthew.

If you like budget vintage Gibson's you gotta try an es-125t or one of it's many variants, for well under $3k and sometimes under $2.5k you get a dogear P-90 and same exact electronics of a LP junior that would be 4-6 times the price and you can play it acoustically as well, I cannot speak highly enough for of mine and for the money they're really hard to beat

I got a cheap epiphone Jr....added a switch to do a parallel/singlecoil/ humbucker mod on the single humbucker. Put it between the two original pots...made the second pot another tone pot ...made them two tones - one bass and one treble. Very interesting guitar. Sounds like a tele/strat/LP.... that big pick guard is perfect to add the 3rd pot.....just put under the pick guard. Drilled a whole for a mini pot. It's my vol pot.
