He didn’t put himself on that cross! That was Steve Stout who did that. Diddy didn’t approve of that version of the video to be released. Steve Stout allowed that version to be live world premiered on MTV. Now as a backstory. In those days you would record many different versions of each scene of a music video/movie. The director and Steve Stout made decisions on what was placed in that video. They released that version without permission. Diddy saw it. Called in live yelling at Steve Stout. Got to Steve’s office the moment Steve got back from the premiere right down the block. Burst past staff members holding him back. Then beat him upside the head with a Moet bottle. This is the actual story. Stop taking information from this dude who dislikes EVERYONE from NYC, for one. Second, his information is mostly idiotic thoughts bouncing around in his head!🙄

You dudes are funny. You say and believe anything. Then throw it out there with no proof but what others to "do their own research". Which just means you have nothing to back up the claim.
I honestly surprised for a video that premiered "wrong" on TRL, it's only been recently found/uploaded...like you'd think more people would have recorded the original Hate Me Now Video, would hacve uploaded a grainy version on UA-cam, P2P2, etc.. But so far all I've seen is from that Hip-HopVCR content creator. Not even during the peak of P2P did any one have the original HMN video for download. It was always the current version w/ explicit lyrics.
The reality is that it wasn’t that hot of a song/video, and they eventually replaced it and just re-aired the version of the video without the crucifixion scenes (which if I remember correctly was of club/lounge scenes with Puff trying to look like a tough guy and spitting champagne out at the camera). And remember that basically you’d have had to have people recording MTV at the right time and with a VCR.

I didn’t say it was wack or nobody peeped it, I said it wasn’t that hot (but should have clarified that I was comparing it to other hip-hop/rap songs of that same year). DMX’s Flesh of My Flesh ran the charts that January (and Slippin was way bigger), N 2 Gether Now by Limp Bizkit and Meth was a huge crossover song that got plenty of play (given its overlap in fanbases and also being a good track with a solid Premier beat), What Y’all Want by Eve was a huge song for her, and even Dead Wrong off of Born Again got a lot of radio play (if not a lot of video play). Remember people were getting tired of Puff already and he was past his heyday, at least as an “artist,” since Chris Rock was taking jabs at him at the VMAs that year (and Ricky Martin too) and even SNL had a skit about Puff’s remixes (where they had him just saying “Come with Me” like in his song off Godzilla but over Aerosmith’s “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” song from Armageddon).
