I have to go in for a sleep study and I don't know how I'm ever going to be able to fall asleep with all that hardware on my face. I have lifelong insomnia and have been on Ambien for close to three decades, and now I may have narcolepsy. Crazy.
Great Vlog, I literally found out a couple days ago what Cataplexy was, which is great to give a name to something I've experienced all my life. Starting my own diagnosis journey now, but from what I've read about it, I'm 99.9% sure I'm Narcoleptic. I go into REM sleep straight away a lot of the time too.
I have sleep apnea and it was indeed pushed out they had to wait until my OSA was under control and then do the MSLT with the Cpap so they know the day time sleepiness isn’t coming from the apneas
Were you on medicine during sleep study? I take narcolepsy medicine for ADD but need to do sleep study because im pretty sure i have type 2 narcolepsy. I still feel the need to pass out several times a day on my medicine . Especially when they lower my dosage.
I have ADHD and used to just take a stimulant for that, but now I take a different stimulant I have noticed it doesn’t help as much with focus, and have been trying to understand what the link is to adhd and narcleposy specifically type 2. I’ve thought it might be trauma? But reallg not sure. If you have any other ideas def let me know!!!
FYI: Narcolepsy and sleep apnea aren't mutually exclusive. You can have both. I'm chasing that right now, and I've had sleep apnea for a long time. No cataplexy.
Hi! I reckon I have narcolepsy Type 1, I often fall asleep during the day, although I sleep at night, I drift in and out of sleep, I'm in REM mode most nights. I've been diagnosed with obtrusive sleep apnea. I use a CPAP machine, because of my excessive snoring. It's possible I could have both sleep disorders. I'll have to get an assessment. Watching from London UK.
I’m in the same situation. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea because I was doing research on why I was so tired and sleepy. And now that the daytime sleepy spells have been worse I called my dr. And of course I get referred but it’s the same ppl from the sleep apnea and now they don’t want to do the overnight sleep study because of my sleep apnea. I felt horrible dismissed. Even my GP said I should not be falling asleep if I sleep “good” and I am on one stimulant for ADHD and another medication that most ppl have trouble sleeping with. Of course the sleep study doctor dismissed every single claim. My best bet is to use my sleep Pap and then go get another referral if I am still falling asleep
I'm curious if you remember(or consistently) remember your dreams. I can't make it through a class. I have a number of comorbid diagnoses and I'm working to find what sleep disorder is the issue before I continue, but I have many visible signs of narcolepsy. I'm honestly hoping for a diagnosis at this point. I would honestly love to chat more about it if you see this/ Either way I hope you see this and are doing well in school and achieving your dreams! I don't know what I have, but your attitude has made me a bit more positive nonetheless! Thank you xo Elle

It’s really interesting that you weren’t sure if you feel asleep for the naps but you obviously did quickly. Can you elaborate on that?

This was very helpful thank you ;-)
I was diagnosed in 2001. I was 26. It answered so many questions.

I didn’t really notice a huge difference when I was taking just my adhd medication, so it’s probably not strong enough.

Thank you for this video. I go for Narcolepsy testing next week. After watching your video, I’m sure I have it as well.
ITS A LONG PROCESS, I wish it was just having oneeee sleep study etc. but for me it was a 2 yr process 🤪
I have to have a sleep study, my doctor put me on Adderall you have absolutely know idea how much it helps!
to keep you awake I suppose. in europe adderall is not available + it would help me with adhd along with daily sleepiness
I’m getting the same sleep study done for narcolepsy, wondering how medication is working for you

I have no connection to narcolepsy but I’m actually studying it for a project right now in school!
Kylie Altimus that’s awesome! National sleep day is March 13th I believe so I will be posting a video specifically about narcolepsy :)
