► Today, we're trying a weird challenge - we're going to see if it is possible to complete the Kanto Pokedex, (original 151 Bulbasaur through Mew) without catching a single pokemon, using only Pokemon received as gifts like Starter Pokemon from the Professor, in game trades like Dux the Farfetch'd, and purchasing Pokemon with coins from the game corner! We'll be taking a look at every Pokemon Game (Pokemon Red, Blue and Yellow all the way to Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon and Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee) and see if all together, the gift Pokemon we receive are enough to catch em all!

@@NoArtisticLimitation No. As PokeTips said, this was a localization error. You see, in Japanese Red and Green this old man's trade was actually of a Kadabra for a Graveler, because both Pokemon evolve via trading they gave the old man this line after the trade, after all, it fits. However, when they localized the games, the trade was changed but they forgot to change the line.

You forgot the poke pelago in sun and moon, you don't catch them they just join you.
yeah you can get a crap ton of pokemon from poke pelago. From my research on google you can get Zubat, Poliwag, Magnemite, Shellder, Gastly, Staryu, Slowpoke and Seel as new pokemon so if you evolve them you could get an insane 17 more pokedex entries. This video needs a part 2 cuz you can still get a bunch more pokemon.
I think it’s actually 18 Pokémon, which would bring the total up to 98/151
Because he could get the 8 you mentioned plus Golbat, Haunter, Gengar, Slowbro, Dewgong, Poliwhirl, Poliwrath, Magneton, Starmie and Cloyster

You missed Growlithe and Aranine. If you breed that Persian/Meowth a few times then trade it to Let’s Go, I’m pretty sure you can get Growlithe, and evolve it to Arcanine
In order to get growlithe from the trader in Let’s Go you have to catch like 50 meowth ingame. That would not work for this challenge.

@Charmander There's actually a lua script for Pokémon Red which effectively plays the game for you. It goes through the speedrun route and automatically resets if unfavourable conditions happen, and it usually takes a couple hundreds of thousands of tries for it to get to the end of the game; in about 50 million attempts there were only like 100 runs complete maybe less, I don't remember. Also, the game is sped up immensely, so thats why so many attempts were given. IIRC the best time gotten this way was a 1:37. It's a pretty neat thing.

not a difficult thing legally speaking. just buy a ds (non dsi), 3ds or 2ds (any model/variant), and switch. 3ds supports the gameboy releases via virtual console, ds supports the gameboy advance releases via a gba cartridge port (unless it's a dsi). if you wanna avoid virtual console, you can buy an actual GBA or gameboy micro or gameboy sp etc which will also support gen 1 and 2 games. for gen 4 and 5 it's obvious, play them either in a ds family console or a 3ds family console, the cartridges are compatible. for gen 6 and 7, play them in a 3ds family console. for gen 8, a switch. boom, easy and legal.

from what i remember about "My Pokemon Ranch" when it came to trading Pokemon with Haley she would just offor one of hers up for one on the wanted list, so it's highly possible that one you already had could be traded for on you didn't without throwing, so those last 3 would be legit but finicky

One of the ways I think can be useful
1) Get ditto as a starter or gift
2) breed them, just breed them
You missed 2 entries. In Pokemon HeartGold/SoulSilver if you release all Pokemon that can learn Surf or Fly, a man in Cianwood Pokemon Center will give you a Tentacool, which can be evolved into Tentacruel.

You can get a farfetch'd in X and Y as well as a steelix that can be bred down into an onyx.
By catching a Bunnelby and a Luvdisc.
However you can get a Steelix by trading ANYTHING to Jasmine in HGSS and breed that for an Onix instead.

You forgot about the poke pelago in pokemon sun and moon, in which random pokemon visit and you can choose to keep them without catching them.

What does Raichu evolve into? Well actually the world knows full well it evolves into Gorochu

7: 32 Many other people are saying it was kadabra for graveler, the script was exactly translated from red & green, so there was no wrong translating. Raichu was originally going to evolve into Gorochu as a trade Evolution, They removed Pokémon due to memory constraints after finishing the script.

@@shyguyissoawesomeguys Even though you can't download My Pokemon Ranch because of the Wii Shop Channel closing down, you can still play it if you already had it downloaded. You can't access the Legendary Bird event anymore unless you have access to a distribution cart which were supposed to be shipped back to Nintendo but some retailers managed to smuggle them away instead. While I don't believe purchasing and owning these carts is inherently illegal, the process that makes them publicly available I'm pretty sure is.

2019: Completing the kanto pokedex without using a pokeball.
If you can get Pokémon Dream Radar on the 3DS eShop, you can get a Staryu and a Slowpoke (and by extension, Starmie and Slowbro) to transfer to Black 2 and White 2. You never throw a ball at them, so I think it counts.
Plus now that we have Sword and Shield with the Isle of Armor, there’s a few more thanks to the Diglett Trainer. Slowpoke (if Dream Radar doesn’t count), Exeggutor, and Diglett, which you can Evolve / Breed for Slowbro, Exeggcute, and Dugtrio.

If you could only get a Mewtwo without catching it, you would also be able to get an Amnesia Psyduck from Pokemon Stadium by getting every pokemon registered in the Victory Palace! Mewtwo is the only pokemon you have to bring in from a gameboy game because all others are available as rentals. Even Mew is available as a rental in round 2 of prime cup.
You can also get Staryu ( + Starmie) and Slowpoke ( + Slowbro) from Dream Radar!
From Poke Pelago in Sun and Moon, there's a random chance of wild pokemon showing up to your island that can join you without requiring a pokeball. This includes Zubat ( + Golbat), Polilwag ( + Poliwhirl, and Poliwrath), Magnemite ( + Magneton), Shellder ( + Cloyster), and Ghastly ( + Haunter, and Gengar).
Through Go Park in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, you can also transfer over pokemon from Go! While most pokemon obtained in Go require pokeballs to be thrown, you can still get pokemon from hatching eggs obtained through Pokestops! The Kanto pokemon you don't currently have registered include Ponyta (This is a much more consistent method), Grimer ( + Muk), Kangaskhan (In Oceania), and Tauros (In the US).

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem that Pokemon Sword and Shield have brought any new gift pokemon since the release of this video. Athough I seem to recall a clip on Twitter of a Wild Pokemon joining the party in Pokemon Camp similar to Poke Pelago. I could be mistaken, but perhaps there are more Kanto Pokemon to be found there?
I keep watching those videos since a few days and now I feel like replaying every single Pokémon game.

if you *DO* give spearow to his owner, you'll get a special choice outta either an egg (not a gen 1 pokemon) or a different egg (gastly)
According to Bulbapedia: "After he receives the mail, the man will give the player TM50 (Nightmare) as a reward; in Generation IV, the prize has become TM44 (Rest)."
Though it is true that you can find a 5% Gastly at night in Crystal only in Route 31 where the guy needing mail is located. But you have to catch it.

Poke pelago from Sun and Moon
And Pokemon you can get from Pokemon Colosseum. (Because I am certain there are a few.)

You can also get another pokemon from pokemon stadium, psyduck, as a gift pokemon from clearing the elite four after filling up the hall of fame on that game, which can be done with rentals.

Colosseum gives you Plusle. Which is not a Kanto Pokémon.
XD gives you Togepi which isn't a Kanto Pokémon.
Togepi CAN be traded for Elekid which evolves into Electabuzz which he already got.
The only other Pokémon he could get are in-game trades in XD but he needs to catch those Pokémon to be able to get them for trade so he can't do anything with it.
If under any circumstances he were able to get a Trapinch, he could trade that for a Meditite, Evolve the Meditite into Medicham and trade that Medicham for Gaspar the Haunter in Snowpoint City in Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. However that's forced to be Male so it cannot breed and he'd have to move it all the way forward to Sun or Moon to trade it for an Alolan Graveler which would evolve into an Alolan Golem.
But again, he can't get that Trapinch.
With that said, if he were to trade his Machop to the Japanese Blue version and evolve it there, he could trade that Machoke on there for a Haunter which due to the way Gen 1 and 2 are coded, COULD be female and he could breed that for Gastly if it is Female.
He still wouldn't be able to get a Geodude though.

My son Toby is 5 and loves your videos. He plays Pokémon on my old Gameboy. He thinks you should do this video again for the Johto region and then you can do lots of extras using the eggs and trades using Kings rock and other items. He says keep making great videos!
