"Sehnsucht" was written by Hans-Günther Schmitz and Purple Schulz. The song became Purple Schulze's greatest hit reaching #6 on the West German charts in 1984 and charting in other countries. The song first appeared on the band's second album "Hautnah" released in 1983 and was released as the third single, produced by Tato Gomez. An English version was released as "Heartsick" (translation by Julian Dawson). Various re-recordings were issued - a.o. "Ich will raus (Sehnsucht '99)" by "Kami & Purple Schulz".
